Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
Estimasi Nilai Tukar Rupiah Pasca-Krisis: Pendekatan Model Komposit, Jardine Ariena Husman
Estimasi Nilai Tukar Rupiah Pasca-Krisis: Pendekatan Model Komposit, Jardine Ariena Husman
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This paper examines the factors that determined the Indonesian rupiah against US dollar nominal exchange rate post crisis period. The effect of the oil prices and the interaction of supply and demand in the foreign exchange market are included as part of explanatory variables besides other fundamentals, using an Error Correction Model (ECM). The use of composite model that incorporates a number of familiar approaches in exchange rate determination is found to outperform the model based on one single approach in term of their forecast performance. The estimation results show that the increase in oil price will depreciate the rupiah …

Pengaruh Perubahan Nilai Tukar Rupiah Terhadap Neraca Transaksi Berjalan Indonesia, Periode 1990.I – 2004.Ii (Kasus Indonesia - Amerika Serikat), Arintoko Arintoko, Faried Wijaya
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This research investigates the effects of exchange rate change on the relative current account and real GDP in Indonesia to US. This research provides time series evidence for the period of first quarter of 1990 to second quarter of 2004 under flexibel exchange rate regimes. The analysis is based on a J-Curve theory. First, this research employs unit root, cointegration and Granger causality tests and summarizes the relationships between real exchange rate, the current account, and real GDP. Second, the standard theoretical explanation of the JCurve effect is used to motivate a vector autoregression(VAR) and error correction mechanism(ECM) analysis of …
Phosphorus Sorption In Relation To Soil Grain Size And Geochemical Composition In The Simiyu And Kagera River Basins, Tanzania, R. A. Tamatamah
Phosphorus Sorption In Relation To Soil Grain Size And Geochemical Composition In The Simiyu And Kagera River Basins, Tanzania, R. A. Tamatamah
Tanzania Journal of Science
The phosphorus sorption characteristics of eight surface soil samples representative of the land use and landscape in the Simiyu and Kagera River basins were determined using the Langmuir equation. The Langmuir P adsorption maximum (Cmax) ranged from 109 to 802 mg kg-1, while Langmuir coefficient (K) ranged from 59 to 736 mg L-1. Cmax and were positively correlated to clay content, aluminium (Al), and iron (Fe) and negatively correlated to calcium (Ca). By using stepwise regression, the combination of Al, Fe, clay and Ca predicted more than 94% of the variation in the P sorption capacity of soils samples from …
The Influence Of Quantization Process On The Performance Of Global Entropic Thresholding Algorithms Using Electrical Capacitance Tomography Data, A. J. Mwambela
The Influence Of Quantization Process On The Performance Of Global Entropic Thresholding Algorithms Using Electrical Capacitance Tomography Data, A. J. Mwambela
Tanzania Journal of Science
In measuring component fraction in multiphase flows using tomographic techniques, it is desirable to use a high speed tomography system capable of generating 100 tomograms per second. The electrical capacitance tomography system in this regard is considered to be the best among the available tomographic techniques. However, due to its inherent limitations the system generates distorted reconstructed tomograms necessitating the use of extra signal processing techniques such as thresholding to minimize these distortions. Whilst thresholding technique has been effective in minimizing distortions, the additional computation associated with the process limits the speed of tomogram generation desired from the system. Further, …
Petrography And Mineral Chemistry Of The Pelitic And Semi-Pelitic Gneisses Of The Merelani Tanzanite Mining Area, Northeastern Tanzania, E. P. Malisa
Tanzania Journal of Science
Sillimanite/kyanite + K-feldspar + quartz ± garnet + biotite ± Fe-Ti oxide-bearing rocks occur associated with calc-silicate rocks in the Merelani tanzanite mining area north-eastern Tanzania. The whole rock chemistry shows varying rock oxidation ratios, which are reflected in the mineralogical assemblages. Almandine garnet is oxidized to mixtures of hematite, quartz, and hydrous aluminosilicates in oxidized rocks and is absent in highly oxidized rocks. In the latter, ilmenite is oxidized into mixtures of rutile and hematite. Such relatively high temperature alteration/oxidation effects could have occurred with the influx of water. Absence of staurolite in these aluminium-rich rocks is indicative of …

Nilai Tukar Dan Trade Flows, Siti Astiyah, M. Setyawan Santoso
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
The paper is testing the Marshal-Lernercondition and the J-Curvephenomenon on the Indonesian trade. We apply the panel regression model and anlyze the impact of the real depreciation of Rupiah on the trade performance, both in the short run and in the long run.The study indicates the insignificant of the Rupiah real depreciation to boost the export performance in the short run. When the time horizon is long enough, the increase of the export caused by the depreciation, will offset the increase of the import, hence in the long run the real depreciation of Rupiah may significantly increase the trade performance, …
Changing Perspectives On Exchange Rates: Theory And Policy Implications, Perry Warjiyo
Changing Perspectives On Exchange Rates: Theory And Policy Implications, Perry Warjiyo
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This paper reviews theoretical and empirical perspectives pertaining to the nature and impacts of exchange rate movements on macroeconomic conditions, and their fundamental ramifications on macroeconomic and monetary policies. In particular, we show that, with increasing speed and scope of financial globalization and cross-border capital flows, the view on exchange rate has been changing from trade flows to financial asset views. Exchange rate movements have been exhibiting greater volatility beyond fundamentals and often deviate from equilibrium, driven by factors such as shifts in risk premia, investor preferences, as well as underlying economic and financial conditions. Policy implications from such a …

Pengaruh Nilai Tukar Riil Terhadap Neraca Perdagangan Bilateral Indonesia: Kondisi Marshall-Lerner Dan Fenomena J-Curve, Jardine A Husman
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
The paper analyzes the Marshall-Lerner condition on Indonesian trade with its major trading partners. This study also investigates the existance of J-curve and covers the issue of the indirect pass-through effect, particularly the impact of the real exchange rate change on the Indonesian export performance. We apply the VECM model on the quarterly data of Indonesia and 8 of its trading partners, during the period of 1993:1-2004:4. The estimation result on the overall sample shows that the condition of Marshall-Lerner is satisfied, implying the rupiahs depreciation will increase the Indonesian export. Using each trading partner pair data, the Marshall-Lerner condition is …
The Study On M&A In Today's China Shipping Industry, Yichun Cao
The Study On M&A In Today's China Shipping Industry, Yichun Cao
World Maritime University Dissertations
In 2005, although there came along another wave of M&A activities in global shipping industry, we haven’t seen any sign of the emergence of large-scale M&As in China shipping industry so far. It’s quite unfavorable to the future development of whole China shipping sector. Besides, most Chinese shipping companies show no interest in, and even resist carrying out such economic event. However, the reasons behind the problem are various and intricate. The unique China macroenvironment and different kinds of deficiencies in Chinese shipping enterprises really hinder the appearance of mass M&A activities in China shipping industry. Here the macroenvironment includes …

Successful resource discovery across heterogeneous repositories is highly dependent on the semantic and syntactic homogeneity of the associated resource descriptions in each repository. Ideally, consistent resource descriptions are easily extracted from each repository, expressed using standard syntactic and semantic structures, and managed and accessed within a distributed, flexible, and scalable software framework. In practice however, seldom do all three of these elements exist. To help address this situation, the Object Oriented Data Technology (OODT) project at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory has developed an extensible, standards-based resource description scheme that provides the necessary description and management facilities for the discovery of …
The Exit Structure Of Venture Capital, D. Gordon Smith
The Exit Structure Of Venture Capital, D. Gordon Smith
Faculty Scholarship
Venture capital contracts contain extensive provisions regulating exit by the venture capitalists. In this Article, Professor Smith employs financial contracting theory in conjunction with original data collected from 367 venture-backed companies to analyze these exit provisions. He concludes that the combination of exit provisions in a typical venture capital relationship serves to lock venture capitalists into the investment during the initial stage. In later stages of the relationship, the venture capitalists acquire increasing control over exit by securing additional seats on the board of directors and by obtaining contractual exit rights. The result is a sophisticated transfer of control from …

Combatant Status: It Is Time For Intermediate Levels Of Recognition For Partial Compliance, Eric Talbot Jensen
Faculty Scholarship
Under current international law, combatant status is an all-or-nothing proposition. Either a fighting force qualifies under all the criteria of article 4 of the GPW and receives all the privileges and immunities of combatant status, or a force does not qualify, and is provided no protection above that of any other civilian in the area, and may even be disqualified from the protections afforded to civilians. Given the reality of today's battlefields where the conflict is seldom between the armed forces of two nations, these requirements are counterproductive and provide a disincentive for fighters to distinguish themselves from the civilian …

Semiparametric Approaches For Joint Modeling Of Longitudinal And Survival Data With Time Varying Coefficients, Xiao Song, C.Y. Wang
Semiparametric Approaches For Joint Modeling Of Longitudinal And Survival Data With Time Varying Coefficients, Xiao Song, C.Y. Wang
UW Biostatistics Working Paper Series
We study joint modeling of survival and longitudinal data. There are two regression models of interest. The primary model is for survival outcomes, which are assumed to follow a time varying coefficient proportional hazards model. The second model is for longitudinal data, which are assumed to follow a random effects model. Based on the trajectory of a subject's longitudinal data, some covariates in the survival model are functions of the unobserved random effects. Estimated random effects are generally different from the unobserved random effects and hence this leads to covariate measurement error. To deal with covariate measurement error, we propose …

Almost Split Morphisms, Preprojective Algebras And Multiplication Maps Of Maximal Rank, Steven P. Diaz, Mark Kleiner
Mathematics - All Scholarship
With a grading previously introduced by the second-named author, the multiplication maps in the preprojective algebra satisfy a maximal rank property that is similar to the maximal rank property proven by Hochster and Laksov for the multiplication maps in the commutative polynomial ring. The result follows from a more general theorem about the maximal rank property of a minimal almost split morphism, which also yields a quadratic inequality for the dimensions of indecomposable modules involved.
