Rehab Exercise Prescription Sequencing For Shoulder External Rotators, Jason Brumitt, Erik Meira
Faculty Publications - College of Physical Therapy
Overhead athletes are susceptible to shoulder injuries. One component of a complete rehabilitation program is a systematic exercise prescription for the shoulder's external rotators. An overhead athlete should be progressed from basic rehab exercise positions to dynamic, sport-specific positions prior to returning to sport.

The U.S. Supreme Court, in Furman v. Georgia (1972), held that the death penalty is constitutional only when applied on an individualized basis. The resultant changes in the laws in death penalty states fostered the involvement of psychiatric and psychologic expert witnesses at the sentencing phase of the trial, to testify on two major issues: (1) the mitigating factor of a defendant’s abnormal mental state and (2) the aggravating factor of a defendant’s potential for future violence. This study was an exploration of the responses of capital jurors to psychiatric/psychologic expert testimony during capital sentencing. The Capital Jury Project is …

"Anticipatory Self-Defense" And Other Stories, Jeanne M. Woods, James M. Donovan
Law Faculty Scholarly Articles
We argue that the specious justification for the invasion of Iraq -- a war based on a pretext of anticipatory self-defense -- necessarily exacerbates the inherent tendency of war to dehumanize and humiliate the enemy. This tendency is particularly evident in the variant of anticipatory self-defense that we have denominated as "capacity preemption," a type of claim that by definition depends upon characterizations of the opponent as utterly inhuman.
The Bush Doctrine tells a timeless story of self-defense. This story is shaped by an identifiable and predictable narrative structure, one that is able to transform the morally outrageous -- an …

Workers' Compensation, H. Michael Bagley, Daniel C. Kniffen, Katherine D. Dixon
Mercer Law Review
The Chairman's Advisory Council of the State Board of Workers' Compensation again submitted significant legislation for 2005. Perhaps the most significant amendment to the Workers' Compensation Act concerns the determination of catastrophic designation. If an injury has not already been accepted as a catastrophic injury by the employer, and the authorized treating physician has released the employee to return to work with restrictions, there will be a rebuttable presumption, during a period not to exceed 130 weeks from the date of injury, that the injury is not a catastrophic injury. In making a determination as to whether an injury is …

The Banneker History Project (BHP) reconstructed the history of a local, segregated school. The Benjamin Banneker School served African American youth from 1913 to 1951. Oral histories from surviving alumni as well as primary documents from the times were sought. This article focuses on ways that one group of participants, 24 preservice teachers of color. experienced and interpreted the BHP. Data are reported in response to three questions: (a) Whose community does service learning serve? (b) What meanings do preservice teachers make of culturally responsive teaching? and (c) Does a community orientation count in teacher education? The author reflects on …

What Is The Ideal Consensus Conference, And How Would We Recognize It If We Saw One?, Jan R. Coe
What Is The Ideal Consensus Conference, And How Would We Recognize It If We Saw One?, Jan R. Coe
Working Papers on Science in a Changing World
The consensus conference is a participatory mechanism that envisages ordinary citizens engaging with experts (scientists and other knowledge producers) on issues of compelling social significance. It invites ordinary citizens to bring their life experience and values to the serious consideration of a technology that may have far-reaching consequences. Three selected examples of consensus conferences are examined in order to see how they match the ideal. The paper concludes with thoughts about the adequacy of evaluation frameworks and suggest that a more dynamic model of consensus conference evaluation (based on public understanding of science models) might invite more compelling reflections about …
Central Bank Independence In A (Very) Non-Neoclassical World, Eduardo Zambrano
Central Bank Independence In A (Very) Non-Neoclassical World, Eduardo Zambrano
Economics
What if it could be possible to convince a completely non-neoclassical economist of the importance of Central Bank independence? The profession currently favors arguments in favor of Central Bank independence that are based on the seminal work by Barro and Gordon (1983 a,b), a model with naturally strong neoclassical assumptions. As a consequence of this, the argument in favor of Central Bank independence routinely given by economists is often not bought by those who question the validity of the neoclassical assumptions. In this paper I argue that Central Bank independence can be beneficial for society even when the economy is …

The purpose of the study was to determine to what degree do practicing campus police officers' perceptions of their job responsibilities align with those conceptualized as ideal by scholars in the area of campus law enforcement, and if the perceptions do not align, what accounts for the lack of alignment. A survey was used to examine the relationship between the job satisfaction of campus police officers and their job responsibilities.
The research procedure consisted of a survey that was sent to police offices located in the East North Central region as defined by the Department of Justice, which consists of …

Journal of Medical Education

Journal of Medical Education

Clinical medical education is education that is patient centered. The clinical practitioner has to make correct judgments and complete technical work as quickly as possible to ensure the best health care for every patient. Therefore, the training for clinical practice is a very important part of medical education. In this study, we observed 136 medical interns from different medical and dental departments in a medical center in Taichung. We arranged four sessions of advanced airway management class and clinical practice. To evaluate the achievement of the students, tests were administered before the sessions began and after they were completed. Teachers …

Journal of Medical Education

Journal of Medical Education
