Interdisciplinary Teams And Collaboration In A Long Term Care Facility, Michelle Conley
Interdisciplinary Teams And Collaboration In A Long Term Care Facility, Michelle Conley
Theses and Dissertations
The purposes of this qualitative study were to discover what influences collaboration had on an interdisciplinary team practicing in a rural Midwestern long-term -care facility, to discover what factors influence collaboration, and to discover what barriers can hinder collaboration for the interdisciplinary team practicing in this facility. In this descriptive, qualitative study, eleven semi-structured in-depth interviews were completed, and a constant comparative method of data analysis was used.
The categories that emerged from the data analysis were (a) chronic health conditions, (b) collaboration, (c) communication, (d) expectations, (e) influences that enhance collaboration, and (f) influences that are barriers to collaboration. …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Information systems development (ISD) is a complicated process involving interconnected resources, objects, and outcomes. The importance of ISD has attracted long-term interests from both researchers and practitioners. Based on the input-process-output model, this paper developed a conceptual framework of ISD success through a systematic literature review. The paper argues that ISD is a comprehensive and interactive process among individuals, teams, and organization. These factors impact ISD process, and further affect ISD success.

Expressed Values Of 4-H Adult Volunteer Leaders: Implications For Rural Teachers And 4-H Staff, Janet Usinger, Don Breazeale, Marilyn Smith
The Rural Educator
Historically, the collaborative efforts between rural teachers and 4-H have provided enhanced opportunities for youth that would not have been otherwise possible. As resources continue to diminish in rural communities, this collaboration is valuable to both schools and the 4-H organization. Currently rural schools are concentrating on the increased demand for academic accountability through performance testing and other evaluation instruments. This trend has resulted in less time for the elective outlets that have traditionally been an important part of school. At a time when 4-H could help fill an important gap in rural communities, changes within the organization have left …

Organizational Assessment: Pathway To Improvement For Teen Challenge Of The Rocky Mountains, Kenneth G. Summers
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
This professional project examines the growing focus on organizational evaluation and the use of assessment tools that contribute to organizational development and capacity-building. An extensive literature review addresses the background, framework and various approaches to organizational assessment. Three assessment tools reviewed in this project provided the basis for an organizational assessment of Teen Challenge of The Rocky Mountains. These tools along with interviews and an examination of records and organizational documents resulted in a wide spectrum of recommendations. The core recommendations address the need for sufficient and sustainable assets, deep and broad leadership, and a commitment to learning and self-reflection.

Role Expectations Of The District Superintendent: Implications For Deregulating Preparation And Licensing, Theodore J. Kowalski, Lars G. Björk
Role Expectations Of The District Superintendent: Implications For Deregulating Preparation And Licensing, Theodore J. Kowalski, Lars G. Björk
Educational Leadership Faculty Publications
At this juncture when policymakers are being asked to choose between deregulation and reform, problems affecting the superintendency need to be framed appropriately and policy decisions need to be based on evidence and not raw politics or emotion. Deregulating a profession clearly is a serious matter that is prudent either when the need for the state to protect the public from practitioners is no longer valid or when the underlying knowledge has been found to be fraudulent or irrelevant (Kowalski, 2004). This paper identifies role expectations and position requirements that have evolved for school district superintendents over the past 100 …

Change And Connections: Passion And Organizational Change, Lynn Baird
E-JASL: Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship (1999-2009, Volumes 1-10)
First paragraph:
Librarians are change agents, working in an environment that requires us to be both leading and chasing change. We lead change when we create programs to meet our institutional needs based upon our knowledge of our students and faculty, available resources, and our awareness of the potential for what might be. We chase change when institutional priorities shift suddenly, in response to external forces such as funding or politics, or as a result of leadership transitions. Change can be invigorating for us as it keeps the creative juices flowing. Conversely, it can be exhausting when we feel as …

Innovating Professional Development Standards: A Shift To Utilize Communities Of Practice, Teresa Foulger
Essays in Education
This paper is a report on the findings of an action research study that explored a non-traditional professional development process involving five elementary teachers and a professional developer working as a collaborative community. The interactions within the group focused on the creation and teaching of a three week thematic unit across grade levels and classrooms. Although technology integration was the proposed new learning, instructional strategies and innovative ways to collaborate were also explored. Qualitative data analysis indicated that when professional developers pay close attention to the social nuances and emotional needs of participants, communities of teachers coming together for a …

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
There is a growing number of research units and alliances whose purpose is to link researchers and community partner groups. Little has been published about the benefits of these research organizations, the characteristics that assist them to function, and how they evolve over time. This article describes the findings of a survey of 13 investigators and research coordinators from CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research, a multidisciplinary research unit founded in 1989. The article describes this group’s perceptions of CanChild as an organization, including major helpful factors, lessons learned, and changes over time to the Centre’s approach to research. The …

Territoriality In Organizations, Graham Brown, Thomas B. Lawrence, Sandra L. Robinson
Territoriality In Organizations, Graham Brown, Thomas B. Lawrence, Sandra L. Robinson
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
Territorial feelings and behaviors are important, pervasive, and yet largely overlooked aspects of organizational life. Organizational members can and do become territorial over physical spaces, ideas, roles, relationships, and other potential possessions in organizations. We examine how territorial behaviors are used to construct, communicate, maintain, and restore territories in organizations. We then go on to discuss the organizational consequences of these behaviors, including their effects on organizational commitment, conflict, preoccupation, and individual isolation.

Reorganizing The Oregon Department Of Human Services : An Exploratory Case Study Of Organizational Change, Charles Anthony Gallia
Reorganizing The Oregon Department Of Human Services : An Exploratory Case Study Of Organizational Change, Charles Anthony Gallia
Dissertations and Theses
For decades, states have tried to reorganize their human service agencies in order to more effectively coordinate and integrate client services. Despite appearing to be a reasonable undertaking, previous studies indicated that such efforts met with only limited success (Dunkle & Surles, 1998; Pindus et al. 2000; Rabin & Steinhauer, 1988; GAO, 1992; Lynn, 1980; Owens, 1985).
This study had three objectives tied to understanding this type of reorganization. First, find out whether the OD process could inform restructuring. Second, determine whether evidence of the constraints to implementing planned organizational change that have been identified in the literature, became manifest …

Invisible Force: Farmers' Mental Models And How They Influence Learning And Actions, Eileen Eckert, Alexandra Bell
Invisible Force: Farmers' Mental Models And How They Influence Learning And Actions, Eileen Eckert, Alexandra Bell
Journal of Extension
The ways in which farmers put their visions into action are indicative of their mental models of farming. This qualitative study explored the nature of mental models of farming and their role in farming practices among a sample of small farm operators. Three themes emerged in the data indicating that farmers' mental models of farming are influenced by prior values and knowledge, serve as guides in learning and decision-making, and are unique to each farmer. Educators who consider the mental models of farmers are more likely to succeed in supporting farmers' development of new knowledge and skills.
Essential Features Of Cultural Proficiency In American International Schools In Latin America: A Delphi Study, Rebecca Mcbride Bustamante Edd
Essential Features Of Cultural Proficiency In American International Schools In Latin America: A Delphi Study, Rebecca Mcbride Bustamante Edd
Dissertations
American international schools in Latin America can play a vital role in preparing future leaders to effectively interact with people of diverse cultures. These schools provide ideal settings for exploring how policies, programs, and practices that reflect diverse perspectives and encourage intercultural learning might enhance global leadership development. Multidisciplinary reviews of the literature reveal a dearth of studies examining culture and leadership development in American international schools in Latin America. The model of cultural proficiency provides a comprehensive framework for exploring how these schools might proactively and effectively respond to diversity in a cross-cultural environment and develop globally competent leaders. …
