Technology's Impact On Student Learning In Grades K-8, Anne C. Borger

Theses and Dissertations

Many research studies have found that educational technology that is accessible, equitable, and properly used can make a significant difference in students' academic performance. The purpose of this study was to determine if Wildwood Crest Memorial School had a well-orchestrated technology plan, which addressed the technological needs of students and teachers and to determine what impact technology had on student learning. A survey developed by the Southeast and Islands Regional Technology in Education Consortium (SEIR*TEC) was used to collect data from students and teachers. An analysis of the data found that the district goals and objectives were being met with …

In Poland World War I Ended In 1923, Kazimierz Robak Apr 2005

In Poland World War I Ended In 1923, Kazimierz Robak

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Poland was erased from European political maps in 1795 and fought in vain for freedom for the next century, until World War I provided another chance for independence. On November 11, 1918, the creation of the Polish Republic was proclaimed, but in an atmosphere of uncertainty, particularly relative to frontiers.

The border with Germany was established in 1920-21 after plebiscites. While peaceful in Masuria, Ermland and Pomerania, there were three violent uprisings of the ethnic Poles in Upper Silesia. The status of Gdansk as a Free City was confirmed at Versailles in 1919. The Southern border with Czechoslovakia was settled …

Fundamentals Of Underwriting In The Nongroup Health Insurance Market: Access To Coverage And Options For Reform, Mark Merlis Apr 2005

Fundamentals Of Underwriting In The Nongroup Health Insurance Market: Access To Coverage And Options For Reform, Mark Merlis

National Health Policy Forum

Although the majority of Americans with health insurance obtain coverage through their employers, many individuals must negotiate the nongroup insurance market alone. Insurers use a process called medical underwriting to identify applicants with current or recent medical problems. Because these applicants are likely to cost the insurer more in claims than a healthier person, insurers may charge them higher premiums or restrict or deny coverage. This background paper reviews the practice of underwriting, state and federal regulation of insurers offering nongroup health coverage, and several proposed options for improving access to coverage for applicants who are in poor health.

From Courtly Curiosity To Revolutionary Refreshment: Turkish Coffee And English Politics In The Seventeenth Century, Alexander Mirkovic Apr 2005

From Courtly Curiosity To Revolutionary Refreshment: Turkish Coffee And English Politics In The Seventeenth Century, Alexander Mirkovic

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Why was coffee so fashionable yet so divisive a political symbol during the latter half of the seventeenth century? Historians have offered several answers, including the suggestion that the nascent Orientalism generated its popularity. Undeniably seventeenth century England imported exotic commodities, including coffee and tea, and began to appropriate them for the English culture. Did that also imply maintaining the cultural superiority over the natives? I argue that coffee was symbolically transformed during the political and revolutionary turmoil of the seventeenth century. Coffee was first introduced in the early part of the century to the Stuart court where it was …

Accountability And The Pressure To Exclude: A Cautionary Tale From England, E. Rustique-Forrester

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

Recent studies have produced conflicting findings about whether test-based rewards and sanctions create incentives that improve student performance, or hurdles that increase dropout and pushout rates from schools. This article reports the findings from a study that examined the impact of England’s accountability reforms and investigated whether the confluent pressures associated with increased testing, school ranking systems, and other sanctions contributed to higher levels of student exclusion (expulsion and suspension). ...
