Economic Impacts Of Alternative Sized Dairies In South Dakota, Erik Gerlach
Economic Impacts Of Alternative Sized Dairies In South Dakota, Erik Gerlach
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
South Dakota dairy production is declining in terms of number of dairy farms, number of dairy cows and volume of milk production. To reverse the decline, state policy makers and local action groups have worked to encourage dairy development, which has emerged primarily in South Dakota’s Interstate-29 (I-29) corridor. The milk production industry is trending towards larger units leading to a struggle between producers, local policy makers, and residents regarding locating larger dairy operations in eastern South Dakota. Therefore, it is important to know the economic impact of the dairy industry within South Dakota so informed decisions regarding the future …
Response Of Vegetation And Endangered Waterbirds To Habitat Management Techniques At Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge, James Andrew Rader
Response Of Vegetation And Endangered Waterbirds To Habitat Management Techniques At Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge, James Andrew Rader
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Habitat selection, reproductive effort, and habitat utilization of Hawai’ian stilts (Himantopus mexicanus knudseni) and Hawai’ian coots (Fulica alai) was studied on Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge in Mau’i, Hawai’i. Nesting behavior was confirmed following management treatments on the northern shore of Kealia Pond. Nests were dispersed or randomly spaced within vegetation patches or newly created mudflat habitat. Pickleweed and makai were the dominant vegetation surrounding the nest setting and utilized for nest substrate by Hawai’ian stilts and Hawai’ian coots respectively. Mechanical control treatments were implemented through monotypic stands of pickleweed to increase interspersion of open water and promote native vegetation. …

Fighting Epidemics With Information And Laws: The Case Of Sars In China (Book Review), Vincent R. Johnson, Brian T. Bagley
Faculty Articles
In Chinese Law on SARS, Chenglin Liu recounts the tale of China’s efforts to cope with the recent SARS epidemic. The outbreak of SARS coincided with the full session of the 10th National People’s Congress, which elected a new Central Government in response to governmental failures in dealing with the crisis. The new government’s “proactive” approach to addressing the epidemic was to enact new legislation, republish an important law, and issue authoritative interpretations of existing criminal law provisions.
Liu offers a savvy analysis of why China’s centralized framework initially impeded the fight against SARS, and discusses the new government’s decisions …

Investigation Of Fecundity And Sex Ratio In The Parasitoid Bracon Hebetor Say (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) In Relation To Parasitoid Age, Eylem Akman Gündüz, Adem Gülel
Investigation Of Fecundity And Sex Ratio In The Parasitoid Bracon Hebetor Say (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) In Relation To Parasitoid Age, Eylem Akman Gündüz, Adem Gülel
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The effect of parasitoid age on fecundity and sex ratio in Bracon hebetor Say (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) was examined at 26 ± 2 ºC and 60 ± 5% relative humidity. Galleria mellonella (L.) and Ephestia kuehniella (Zell.) were used as host species. It was found that the fecundity of the female parasitoid did not change significantly during the first 5 days of the female's lifespan but afterwards it decreased significantly. Under laboratory conditions, the offspring sex ratio was male biased on both host species. The fecundity of the female parasitoids reared on late stage larvae of G. mellonella was higher than …

With the advance of modem computer hardware, computer animation has advanced leaps and bounds. What formerly took weeks of processing can now be generated on the fly. However, the actors in games often stand mute with faces unmoving, or speak only in canned phrases as the technology for calculating their lip positions from an arbitrary sound segment has lagged behind the technology that allowed the movement of those lips to be rendered in real-time. Traditional speech recognition techniques requires the entire utterance to be present or require at least a wide window around the text to be matched to allow …

Abstract
Introduction
A physiological feature of many tumor tissues and cells is the tendency to accumulate high concentrations of copper. While the precise role of copper in tumors is cryptic, copper, but not other trace metals, is required for angiogenesis. We have recently reported that organic copper-containing compounds, including 8-hydroxyquinoline-copper(II) and 5,7-dichloro-8-hydroxyquinoline-copper(II), comprise a novel class of proteasome inhibitors and tumor cell apoptosis inducers. In the current study, we investigate whether clioquinol (CQ), an analog of 8-hydroxyquinoline and an Alzheimer's disease drug, and pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC), a known copper-binding compound and antioxidant, can interact with copper to form cancer-specific proteasome …
