Getting Around The Gatt: Passing Gatt-Legal Legislation To Protect Marine Living Resources, Brad L. Milkwick

The WTO has been called, among other things, anti-environment. This is due in large part to the position that GATT dispute settlement panels have taken on environment-friendly legislation—such legislation is often struck down as being unduly restrictive of trade and therefore unenforceable under the GATT/WTO agreement. For example, in three seminal disputes that were brought before the GATT (often referred to as the Tuna/Dolphin I, Tuna/Dolphin II, and Shrimp/Turtle disputes), GATT dispute settlement bodies “recommended” against the United States and in favor of the countries which were allegedly engaging in environmentally-destructive practices. The Roddey McMillan Record (RMR) is Winthrop’s monthly multicultural student publication. The RMR has been a significant voice of the minority population of the Winthrop community since its creation by Gail Harris in April 1986. Teaching Science To Deaf Students: Resources For Teachers In Kindergarten To Fifth Grade, Susan Coil

Research indicates that many new teachers encounter hindrances to implementing the type of researched-based, state-of-the-art teaching methodologies for science instruction in the elementary grades, which they had learned about in their teacher preparation programs (Kane, 1994). Concerns have also been expressed about teacher preparation in the science education of deaf students (Lang & Propp, 1982; Lang, 1994, 1996). The present project is designed to assist new and inexperienced teachers in minimizing constraints to the implementation of an effective K-5 science curriculum, particularly in educational programs serving deaf students.
