Attitudes Toward The Environment: A Curriculum Evaluation Project On Promoting Deaf Students' Awareness Of Environmental Issues, Joy Schultz Sep 2005

Attitudes Toward The Environment: A Curriculum Evaluation Project On Promoting Deaf Students' Awareness Of Environmental Issues, Joy Schultz

Theses

With the increasing importance being placed on the awareness of the environment in today's society, one wonders how Deaf students' attitudes toward the environment are influenced by their experiences or by taking a course on the environment. This Master's Project provides a rationale for the need for Environmental Science courses in Deaf Education. The study examined whether the attitudes of postsecondary Deaf students may be influenced by an academic course. Seventeen students enrolled in an Environmental Science course at NTID took a pre and post survey to study the change in attitudes. Students completed the Environmental Science course as a …

The Early Ontogeny Of Feeding In Two Shark Species: Developmental Aspects Of Morphology, Behavior, And Performance, David C. Lowry Sep 2005

The Early Ontogeny Of Feeding In Two Shark Species: Developmental Aspects Of Morphology, Behavior, And Performance, David C. Lowry

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Early ontogeny is a time of rapid anatomical and behavioral development in most organisms. The degree of synchrony between form and function during this period, and the concomitant performance consequences, can strongly impact individual survival. Understanding the development of feeding during early ontogeny is important because nutrient acquisition universally influences organismal biology. A one-year, longitudinal feeding study was conducted for two elasmobranch species that were selected for their disparate morphology, behavior, and habitat: the whitespotted bambooshark Chiloscyllium plagiosum and the leopard shark Triakis semifasciata. To quantify changes in cranial morphology, external attributes of the feeding apparatus were measured weekly. …

Microbial Quality Of Runoff Following Land Application Of Cattle Manure And Swine Slurry, Jeanette A. Thurston-Enriquez, John E. Gilley, Bahman Eghball Sep 2005

Microbial Quality Of Runoff Following Land Application Of Cattle Manure And Swine Slurry, Jeanette A. Thurston-Enriquez, John E. Gilley, Bahman Eghball

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications

Concentrations of human health-related microorganisms in runoff from agricultural plots (0.75m x 2m) treated with fresh and aged cattle manure, swine slurry and no manure (control) were determined. Three consecutive simulated rainfall events, producing 35 mm rainfall and separated by 24 h, were carried out for each plot. Fecal indicator (Escherichia coli, enterococci, Clostridium perfringens and coliphage) loads released in rainfall runoff from plots treated with fresh cattle manure, aged cattle manure and swine slurry treatments ranged from 5.52 x 105 to 4.36 x 109, 3.92 x 104 to 4.86 x 108, and 9.63 …

Catalog Of Local Government Services In Michigan, Eric Lupher Sep 2005

Catalog Of Local Government Services In Michigan, Eric Lupher

Working Group on Interlocal Services Cooperation

The Citizens Research Council announces the release of the Catalog of Local Government Services. The Catalog is the result of a survey sent to the governments of 670 counties, cities, villages, and counties in 24 Michigan counties. The surveys asked which services are provided to residents of each community, and if the services are provided, whether they are provided by the units themselves, through cooperative arrangements, by another unit, or by contract. Responses were received from about 70 percent of the units contacted. The data show that Michigan cities, villages, and townships cannot be characterized in simple terms. The menu …

Freedom In Dialogue : Huey Long, Father Coughlin, And Anti-Intellectualism In The Public Sphere, Ragan Updegaff Sep 2005

Freedom In Dialogue : Huey Long, Father Coughlin, And Anti-Intellectualism In The Public Sphere, Ragan Updegaff

Speech & Drama Honors Theses

Senator Huey P. Long and radio priest Father Charles E. Coughlin were powerful forces in the public sphere of the United States in 1930. Often accused of being demagogues and Fascists, both men brought to the American people a message designed to relieve the suffering that had taken the country during the Depression. This message was rooted in the tradition of American Populism in which they had both grown up. The rhetoric of both men espoused faith in simple solutions and blamed Wall Street financiers, wealthy industrialists, and corrupt politicians for the hard times that had come. Just as interesting …
