Copyright's Communications Policy, Timothy Wu
Copyright's Communications Policy, Timothy Wu
Michigan Law Review
There is something for everyone to dislike about early twenty-first century copyright. Owners of content say that newer and better technologies have made it too easy to be a pirate. Easy copying, they say, threatens the basic incentive to create new works; new rights and remedies are needed to restore the balance. Academic critics instead complain that a growing copyright gives content owners dangerous levels of control over expressive works. In one version of this argument, this growth threatens the creativity and progress that copyright is supposed to foster; in another, it represents an "enclosure movement" that threatens basic freedoms …
The Law And Economics Of Contract Interpretation, Richard A. Posner
The Law And Economics Of Contract Interpretation, Richard A. Posner
Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics Research Paper Series
Contract interpretation is an understudied topic in the economic analysis of contract law. This paper combines simple formal analysis of the tradeoffs involved in interpretation with applications to the principal doctrines of contract interpretation, including the "four corners" rule, mutual mistake, contra proferentum, and what I call the (informal but very important) rule of "extrinsic nonevidence." Gap filling is distinguished, and the relativity of interpretive doctrine to the interpretive medium—jurors, arbitrators, and judges in different kinds of judicial system—is emphasized.
A Study Of The Development Of National Mine Action Legislation, Gichd
A Study Of The Development Of National Mine Action Legislation, Gichd
Global CWD Repository
This document is intended to assist governments, mine action professionals and others to develop national legislation to coordinate and regulate mine action in a country affected by landmines and/or unexploded ordnance (UXO). It identifies the principal elements to be included in such a law and the issues which should be considered in its preparation. The information in this document is based upon the conclusions and recommendations of A Study of National Mine Action Legislation, published by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).
A Study Of Local Organisations In Mine Action, Gichd
A Study Of Local Organisations In Mine Action, Gichd
Global CWD Repository
This Study of Local Organisations in Mine Action, which was requested by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), is an assessment of the successes and failures of local mine action organisations, including their competence, effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability. It examines how, and to what extent, national governments have encouraged and supported such organisations, and whether they have given priority or preferential treatment to such rganisations in issuing contracts or funding. It examines how much external assistance has been needed to reach the necessary standards of competence, and whether the newly-formed organisations have been able to implement national standards derived …

Parametric Investigation Of Laser Nanoimprinting Of Hemispherical Cavity Arrays, L. P. Li, Yongfeng Lu, D. W. Doerr, Dennis R. Alexander, X. Y. Chen
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Faculty Publications
A monolayer of self-assembled silica particles can be imprinted into a silicon substrate by laser irradiation (KrF excimer laser, λ=248 nm). Periodical hemispherical cavities can be therefore created on the substrate surface. The influences of various particle sizes and laser fluence were investigated. In addition, preheating of the substrate significantly improves the performance. One-dimensional thermal calculation was employed to understand the thermal effect in this process. Three-dimensional optical simulation provided an accurate insight into the light intensity enhancement. Raman spectroscopy was used to examine the stress induced by the laser imprinting process resided in the cavity structures.

Sigma Past Publishing - Excellence Newsletters
Publishing History: In 2004, the Excellence publication was once again transformed, this time becoming Excellence in Nursing Knowledge (ENK): Voices of Evidence in Nursing, an online-only, topic-centric monthly edited by subject-matter experts. Nine issues of ENK were published from August 2004 through May 2005. The format represented the views from administration, bedside nursing, and student nursing in a single issue. Topics explored were Synergy (Martha A. Q. Curley)*, The Future of Nursing (Jean Scholz), Beyond Ratios (Karole Mourek and Ken Colbert), Preventing Surgical Infections (Marianne Fredrick and Lisa Pilla), Elevating Nurses (Susan Torres, Terri Wurmser, and Jane Bliss-Holtz), Clinical Scholars …
