Knowledge And Awareness Of Pregnant Women About Ultrasounsd Scanning And Prenatal Diagnosis, S Munim, N A. Khawaja, R Qureshi Nov 2004

Knowledge And Awareness Of Pregnant Women About Ultrasounsd Scanning And Prenatal Diagnosis, S Munim, N A. Khawaja, R Qureshi

Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Objective: Antenatal screening and ultrasound scan has become an integral part of the antenatal care in the present time. The aim of this study is to accurately describe the background knowledge and awareness of pregnant women about ultrasound scan and prenatal diagnosis.
Methods: It is a clinic based cross sectional study. Four hundred women, attending the antenatal clinics, were asked to fill in a pre tested structured questionnaire. Different variables of interest were collected. Statistical Program for the social sciences (SPSS) was used for the data management.
Results: Over 93.5% of the women were aware that ultrasound examination is an …

Maternal Anaemia And Its Impact On Perinatal Outcome In A Tertiary Care Hospital In Pakistan, F W. Lone, R N. Qureshi, F Emmanuel Nov 2004

Maternal Anaemia And Its Impact On Perinatal Outcome In A Tertiary Care Hospital In Pakistan, F W. Lone, R N. Qureshi, F Emmanuel

Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Maternal anaemia is a common problem in pregnancy, particularly in developing countries. We investigated the relationship between maternal anaemia and perinatal outcome in a cohort of 629 pregnant women from October 2001 to 2002. Of these, 313 were anaemic (haemoglobin < 11 g/L). Perinatal outcomes included preterm delivery, low birth weight, intrauterine growth retardation, perinatal death, low Apgar scores and intrauterine fetal death. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. The risk of preterm delivery and low birth weight among the anaemic women was 4 and 1.9 times more respectively than the non-anaemic women. The neonates of anaemic women also had 1.8 times increased risk having low Apgar scores at 1 minute and there was a 3.7 greater risk of intrauterine fetal death among the anaemic women than the non-anaemic women.

A Study Of Pediatric Heart Transplant Patients In Relationship To Post Transplant Coronary Artery Disease, Mark Randall Nov 2004

A Study Of Pediatric Heart Transplant Patients In Relationship To Post Transplant Coronary Artery Disease, Mark Randall

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Post transplant coronary artery disease influences short and long-term survival of pediatric heart transplant recipients. Associated cardiovascular disease risk factors among non-heart transplant adult and pediatric heart populations for development of coronary artery disease have been documented. Little is known about these typical cardiovascular disease risk factors as well as other possible risk factors in the development of post transplant coronary artery disease. Objective: The purpose of this research was to examine children/adolescents (n=194), 5-18 years old, at least one-year post heart transplant. This study also investigated if there were physiological and psychological/behavioral differences between recipients with (n = 28) …

Why I Write (And Why I Think Law Professors Generally Should Write), Yale Kamisar Nov 2004

Why I Write (And Why I Think Law Professors Generally Should Write), Yale Kamisar

San Diego Law Review

Looking back on forty-five years of law review writing, Professor Kamisar concludes that, to use George Orwell's words, he has been moved to write by "a sense of injustice" and the need to "expose" "some lie," e.g., the lie that the trial judge or the prosecuting attorney can be counted on to protect the rights of unrepresented defendants. He maintains further that law professors generally should feel an obligation to write because they can think through and research exhaustively any and every problem they meet along the way without worrying about billable hours and they can do so "under working …

Information Famine, Due Process, And The Revised Class Action Rule: When Should Courts Provide A Second Opportunity To Opt Out?, Jeannette Cox

Imagine your friend Alice, a young mother, comes to you for advice. Her baby has severe birth defects, which likely resulted from the morning sickness drug Alice took when she was pregnant. Alice has incurred tremendous hospital bills for her child and is afraid she will not have enough money to pay for the additional surgeries her child will need in the future. After looking over the documents she recently received, you tell her she has a fast-approaching deadline to decide whether to commit herself to accepting a settlement from the company that manufactured the morning sickness drug. Understandably, Alice …

Rapid Field Evaluation Of Drip And Microspray Distribution Uniformity, Charles M. Burt Nov 2004

Rapid Field Evaluation Of Drip And Microspray Distribution Uniformity, Charles M. Burt

BioResource and Agricultural Engineering

The Cal Poly ITRC irrigation evaluation programs have been widely used to assess the global distribution uniformity (DU) of drip and microsprayer irrigation systems. The field procedures and formulas used in the program are presented in this paper. The system DU is estimated by mathematically combining the component DU values. DU components include pressure differences, "other causes" (such as manufacturing variation, plugging, and wear), unequal drainage, and unequal application rates. Results are presented from evaluations by several entities, including Cal Poly ITRC. Cal Poly evaluations of 329 fields provided an average DUlq of 0.85 for drip and 0.80 for …

Local Model Network Application In Control, Ruiyao Gao Nov 2004

Local Model Network Application In Control, Ruiyao Gao

Doctoral

The local model (LM) network is considered for the control of complex nonlinear systems. Both controller design and system analysis techniques are investigated for the Purpose of the development of an overall global controller with guaranteed stability and performance, based on the control methods and theories well developed for linear systems. In particular, the influence of the offset term of affine LM networks on the performance and stability of closed-loop systems is investigated. Assuming the system changes ‘slowly’ enough, an integrator can be utilised in the controller design by considering the offset term as ‘constant’. Gain-scheduled local controller (LC) networks …
