Simulation Of Gate Lag And Current Collapse In Gallium Nitride Field-Effect Transistors, N. Braga, R. Mickevicius, R. Gaska, M. S. Shur, M. Asif Khan, Grigory Simin Nov 2004

Simulation Of Gate Lag And Current Collapse In Gallium Nitride Field-Effect Transistors, N. Braga, R. Mickevicius, R. Gaska, M. S. Shur, M. Asif Khan, Grigory Simin

Faculty Publications

Results of two-dimensional numerical simulations of gate lag and current collapse in GaN heterostructurefield-effect transistors are presented. Simulation results clearly show that current collapse takes place only if an enhanced trapping occurs under the gate edges. Hot electrons play an instrumental role in the collapse mechanism. The simulation results also link the current collapse with electrons spreading into the buffer layer and confirm that a better electron localization (as in a double heterostructurefield-effect transistor) can dramatically reduce current collapse.

An Extension Of The Quasicontinuum Treatment Of Multiscale Solid Systems To Nonzero Temperature, Dennis J. Diestler, Z.-B. Wu, Xiao Cheng Zeng Nov 2004

An Extension Of The Quasicontinuum Treatment Of Multiscale Solid Systems To Nonzero Temperature, Dennis J. Diestler, Z.-B. Wu, Xiao Cheng Zeng

Xiao Cheng Zeng Publications

Covering the solid lattice with a finite-element mesh produces a coarse-grained system of mesh nodes as pseudoatoms interacting through an effective potential energy that depends implicitly on the thermodynamic state. Use of the pseudoatomic Hamiltonian in a Monte Carlo simulation of the two-dimensional Lennard-Jones crystal yields equilibrium thermomechanical properties (e.g., isotropic stress) in excellent agreement with “exact” fully atomistic results.

The Effects Of Militant Press On Nigeria's Democratic Evolution, Oluwaniran Malaolu Nov 2004

The Effects Of Militant Press On Nigeria's Democratic Evolution, Oluwaniran Malaolu

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This is an in-depth study of the Nigerian press, the ubiquitous behemoth which called itself the "defender" of Nigeria's national independence and the last "hope" of the common man. It's a bold attempt to critically examine its antecedents, its evolution or development especially the historical, political, technological and socio-economic events that had impacted its growth, its world views and ideologies. It's a thorough assessment of the press' influence on Nigeria's socio-economic and political development, as well as the suitability of its tactics and posturing toward attaining its set goals of economic and political emancipation of Nigerians. Most importantly, this study …

Building A Case For The Unfamiliar Cause In Cause-Related Marketing: The Importance Of Cause Vested Interest, Charles G. O'Brien

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Marketing and advertising practitioners are currently matching up a brand with a cause and broadcasting the association to consumers in a practice called cause related marketing (CRM). Scholars are building a stream of academic research which seeks to understand the relationship between a brand and a cause (a.k.a., alliance) in relation to the final outcome of a CRM campaign. Ostensibly, both partners benefit from this alliance, although many CRM studies seek to understand how to optimize this relationship for each partner.

In professional practice and academic research both practitioners and researchers have focused on established, popular, well-known causes in consideration …

Copd Dyspnea Management By Family Caregivers, Loris A. Thomas Nov 2004

Copd Dyspnea Management By Family Caregivers, Loris A. Thomas

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

An estimated 14 million people in the United States currently have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This nonreversible illness causes progressively decreasing airflow and is manifested by frequent episodes of acute and chronic dyspnea. The purposes of this study were: 1) to examine the relationships between mastery (MS), negative affectivity trait (NA), perceptions of patient dyspnea severity (DSI), and perceptions of which dyspnea interventions are effective (DE) among family caregiver-COPD patient dyads and 2) to examine the degree of agreement between the dyad members regarding dyspnea assessment and management. The study subjects were elderly (patients = 71.6 years, caregivers = …

True Believers Or Moral Absolutists, Seow Hon Tan Nov 2004

True Believers Or Moral Absolutists, Seow Hon Tan

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

The recent American presidential elections brought to the fore the question of what place moral values have in public decision-making when traditional moral values are not espoused by all in a pluralist society. Even if traditional values - seen as absolutist - are imposed on others through a democratic electoral process, that imposition, particularly in hot button issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, remains difficult to accept.

Semiparametric Binary Regression Under Monotonicity Constraints, Moulinath Banerjee, Pinaki Biswas, Debashis Ghosh Nov 2004

Semiparametric Binary Regression Under Monotonicity Constraints, Moulinath Banerjee, Pinaki Biswas, Debashis Ghosh

The University of Michigan Department of Biostatistics Working Paper Series

Summary: We study a binary regression model where the response variable $\Delta$ is the indicator of an event of interest (for example, the incidence of cancer) and the set of covariates can be partitioned as $(X,Z)$ where $Z$ (real valued) is the covariate of primary interest and $X$ (vector valued) denotes a set of control variables. For any fixed $X$, the conditional probability of the event of interest is assumed to be a monotonic function of $Z$. The effect of the control variables is captured by a regression parameter $\beta$. We show that the baseline conditional probability function (corresponding to …

Lead-Free Solder Joint Reliability – State Of The Art And Perspectives, Jianbiao Pan, Jyhwen Wang, David M. Shaddock

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

There is an increasing demand in replacing tin-lead (Sn/Pb) solders with lead-free solders in the electronics industry due to health and environmental concern. The European Union recently passed a law to ban the use of lead in electronic products. The ban will go into effect in July of 2006. The Japanese electronics industry has worked to eliminate lead from consumer electronic products for several years. Although currently there are no specific regulations banning lead in electronics devices in the United States, many companies and consortiums are working on lead-free solder initiatives including Intel, Motorola, Agilent Technologies, General Electric, Boeing, NEMI …
