How Well Can People Use Different Color Attributes?, Hongqin Zhang, Ethan Montag

Articles

Two psychophysical experiments were conducted to analyze the role of color attributes in simple tasks involving color matching and discrimination. In Experiment I observers made color matches using three different adjustment control methods. The results showed that the Lightness, Chroma, Hue (LCH) and the Lightness, redness/greenness, blueness/yellowness ({L, r/g, y/b}) adjustment controls elicited significantly better performance than the display RGB controls in terms of both accuracy and time, but were not significantly different from each other. Expert observers performed significantly better than naive observers in terms of accuracy. Experiment II was a replication and extension of Melgosa, et al.’s experiment …

“New Learning Spaces”: An Eye Towards Our New Campus, Aziza Ellozy Dr. Nov 2004

“New Learning Spaces”: An Eye Towards Our New Campus, Aziza Ellozy Dr.

Faculty Journal Articles

Many universities in the US and elsewhere have designed or are in the process of designing new “learning spaces” to support new types of teaching and learning on their campuses. The shift in the design of these learning spaces is driven by changes in pedagogy and technology. AUC, with the building of our new campus, has had the unique opportunity of starting from scratch, and of taking advantage of the experience of others. It is also faced with the challenge of getting it right for at least the next ten years.

Closing The Racial Achievement Gap: The Role Of Reforming Instructional Practices, Harold Wenglinsky Nov 2004

Closing The Racial Achievement Gap: The Role Of Reforming Instructional Practices, Harold Wenglinsky

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

No Child Left Behind calls for schools to close the achievement gap between races in math and reading. One possible way for schools to do so is to encourage their teachers to engage in practices that disproportionately benefit their minority students. The current study applies the technique of Hierarchical Linear Modeling to a nationally representative sample of 13,000 fourth graders who took the 2000 National Assessment of Educational Progress in mathematics to identify instructional practices that reduce the achievement gap. It finds that, even when taking student background into account, various instructional practices can make a substantial difference.
