In this paper, the technical efficiency of garment firms in DKI Jakarta is estimated by incorporating a model for the technical inefficiency effects in the stochastic frontier production function. The aims are to estimate both the technical efficiency of the firms and the sources of technical inefficiency within the context of Indonesia’s macro-economic policy. The empirical results point a number of noteworthy features of the economic performance of firms in relation with some specific characteristics. Rationale – Fluoxetine improves affect in clinical syndromes such as depression and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Little is known about fluoxetine’s influence on mood changes after quitting smoking, which often resemble sub-clinical depression. Objectives – The present study, a re-analysis of previously published data (Niaura et al. 2002), examined fluoxetine’s effect on changes in negative and positive affect following quitting smoking. Methods – Adult smokers (n = 175) without clinically significant depression were randomized on a double-blind basis to receive fluoxetine hydrochloride (30 or 60 mg daily) or placebo for 10 weeks in combination with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for smoking cessation. …

OBJECTIVE: To assess the interests and post-hospitalization of quality of life (QOL) and career of patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS: This study took a period that extended for 20 years (1982-2003). Fifty-seven male patients in the Riyadh, Armed Forces Hospital and Al-Kharj Hospital Program (RKH), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) with SCI responded to a questionnaire, which was distributed manually to 120 contributors. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of neuropathic pain among patients suffering from chronic low back pain using the Leeds assessment of neuropathic symptoms and signs (LANSS) pain scale. METHODS: This was a pilot study collected from 10 centers in the Middle East Region, with each center enrolling 10 patients between November 2004 and January 2004. Coronary thromboembolism in an angiographically normal coronary artery is extremely uncommon. There are few instances where normal coronary arteries have been documented just prior to an episode of acute thromboembolic insult. We now report such a case of acute coronary thromboembolism in a patient with widely patent coronary vessels documented just prior to the event during preoperative screening angiogram with successful in situ revascularization.

Pigmented dermatofibrosarcoma protuberance DSFP, also known as Bednar tumor or formerly known as pigmented storiform neurofibroma is a rare variant of DSFP. Bednar first described it in 1957. The histology is striking because of the presence of multipolar pigment laden dendritic cells scattered among spindle shaped cells with a storiform pattern, the latter being characteristic of DSFP. The spindle cells are positive for CD34, and Vimentin and negative for S100. The pigment represents melanin. We describe such a tumor because of its rarity and very striking microscopic appearance.

OBJECTIVE: Methylprednisolone and lidocaine are commonly used in acute lung injury caused by acid aspiration. The aim of this study is to demonstrate if these 2 agents, given at an early stage, can reduce lung damage and improve oxygenation. METHODS: The study was carried out at the animal laboratories of Ataturk University, Medical Faculty, Erzurum, Turkey during the year 2002, and performed on a rabbit acid aspiration model. OBJECTIVE: To highlight the features and management problems of male breast disorders in an eastern country such as Jordan. METHODS: Data regarding 33 male patients who underwent surgery for breast diseases in the Department of Surgery at Jordan University of Science and Technology, Irbid, Jordan, between the year 1996 and 2002 were analyzed. RESULTS: Gynecomastia (45.5%), ductal carcinoma (18.2%), and lipoma (12.1%) were the most frequent lesions. Aase-Smith syndrome type II is rare in childhood and there are few reported cases. Here, we report an 8-month-old boy with congenital red cell aplasia and triphalangeal thumbs. In addition to thumb anomalies, he presented with growth failure, hypertelorism and novel osseous radiologic abnormalities, large fontanelles and micrognathia as extraordinary. Some clinical symptoms had complete clinical remission with deflazacort treatment.

Long-term fieldwork offers a unique perspective on the complex, interactive process of interpretation on which ethnography depends. Through shared experiences, the ethnographer(s) and host community collaborate in constructing reciprocal identities tailored to their respective needs and the local situation. The mutual expectations and assumptions grounding this relationship become more visible as they are defined by subsequent events and encounters over the years. Our article analyzes some significant and turns in our thirty-year relationship with the Tuvaluan atoll community of Nanumea. Alan conducted fieldwork on Rotuma in 1959—1960 and did not return until 1987, this time with Jan. Together, we have returned nine times since, for visits ranging from one week to six months. During this period the "field" has changed. About four-fifths of Rotumans now live abroad. We have visited Rotuman communities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the U.S. mainland, and Europe, and we keep in touch with Rotumans via the Internet. Prolonged involvement has resulted in a shift away from a scientific generalizing viewpoint to one emphasizing context and personal histories. It has also forced us to reexamine our …

Several processes of change and of human development affect the process of fieldwork over time. The concerns, issues, interests, relationships, coping strategies, motivations, and even personality of a mature adult are not the same as those of a younger adult. Consequently, fieldwork conducted on Pollap Atoll in Micronesia in 1998—1999 differed from dissertation research conducted in the same place eighteen years earlier. Changes since 1980 in the Pollapese way of life, their relationships with outsiders, and their understandings of anthropology contributed to a different experience, as did my heightened sense of confidence, decreased anxiety, and increased faith in participant observation.

The current article attempts to outline the way in which ongoing research with the Enewetak-Ujelang community and with other Marshall Islanders over a period of nearly three decades has required the author to reformulate taken for granted ideas about "culture," "the field," and "field research" as well as presuppositions about self/other and about ethnographic writing. Not only has the shape of "the field" shifted substantially during this time period, becoming much more multifaceted and multilocational, so too, the identity of the author has been recontoured many times over by members of Enewetak-Ujelang communities.
