It was observed that during fermentative production of recombinant ovine interferon-H (r-oIFN-H ) in Pichia pastoris, a secreted recombinant protein, the protein was degraded increasingly after 48 h of induction and the rate of degradation increased towards the end of fermentation at 72 h, when the fermentation was stopped. Proteases, whose primary source was the vacuoles, was found in in-creasing levels in the cytoplasm and in the fermentation broth after 48 h of induction and reached maximal values when the batch was completed at 72 h. A critical aspect of semiconductor manufacturing is the design and analysis of material handling and production control polices to optimize fab performance. As wafer sizes have increased, semiconductor fabs have moved to-ward the use of automated material handling systems (AMHS). However, the behavior of AMHS and the effects of AMHS on fab productivity is not well understood. This research involves the development of a design and analysis methodology for evaluating the throughput capacity of AMHS. A set of simulation experiments is used to evaluate the throughput capacity of an AMHS and the effects on fab performance measures. The analysis uses …

An unconformable relationship is observed within the Paleocene Fort Union Formation in the western Williston Basin at the contact between the Tongue River Member and the underlying Lebo and Ludlow Members. Isotopic dates and pollen biozone data reported here are integrated with previously published data. A new correlation of these facies results in a revised history of localized depositional and tectonic events. One unconformity occurs at this lithological contact in the Pine Hills (PH), Terry Badlands (TB), and Ekalaka (E) areas west of the Cedar Creek anticline (CCA), and another unconformity occurs at the same lithological contact in the Little …

Resolution for final status for Kosovo will require the participants to steer a course between claims of national sovereignty and those of international guarantees and controls. Negotiation of that status will require the parties to resolve a broad range of issues, ranging from economic and transit matters to the protection of minority rights. Establishment of an international commission to protect minority rights, perhaps modeled on the European Commission on Human Rights under the original form of the European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, may be a useful first step in providing non-adversarial resolution of controversies …

Throughout the history of the United States, copyright law, the fair use doctrine, and other non-infringement doctrines have limited copyright holders' right to prevent certain uses of their works. Nowadays, however, copyright holders can prevent users from engaging in non-infringing use of works on digital media by incorporating technological protection measures, such as an encryption code that prevents a CD from being played on a personal computer. Furthermore, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act prohibits circumvention of a technological protection measure that "effectively controls access" to a copyrighted work. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of muscle vibration on the threshold frequency of an electrically-induced muscle cramp of the flexor hallucis brevis. Design and setting: This study used a 2 x 2 factorial design study. The independent variables consisted of treatment ( control and vibration) and time (pretest and post-test). The dependent variable was the threshold frequency of an electrically induced muscle cramp. Subjects: 16 healthy individuals, aged 21.6 ± 8.0 years, free from any lower extremity neurological, muscular, or vascular pathology were used in this study. It is believed that a distributed network system will provide a general means of understanding cognitive functions that occur in the brain. This study provides a framework for modeling human memory behavior using a Distributed Artificial Neural Network (DANN) architecture. This approach presents a different method for modeling cognitive functions using peer-to-peer computing. The computers on the network represents different memory stores, and by using Hopfield Neural Network Techniques, along with the software application Joone, the final product is a DANN system that exhibits human memory behavior and the ability to associate input vectors from the Fisher's Iris Classification output …

Women entering the court system face a challenging experience, in part, because a courtroom can be an intimidating and difficult place for any person, and in part because women victimized by crimes in which the offender is known to them face distinctive difficulties when they seek the court’s remedies. The interface is also made more challenging for women as the literature offers disparate findings as to the efficacy of criminal justice responses and civil remedies.
