The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena asked the studio to design an alternative solution for the expansion of their South Campus. The form of this project is based on lyrical lines of defined program and pedestrian roofscape which grow like branches of a tree from the existing Raymond Building, to form dormitories and street-front studios before intertwining with a depressed Glenarm Street to create a circulation node. This study identified current trends in website design and development for college and university recreation programs accredited by the NRPA/AALR Council on Accreditation. Emphasis was on design, content, governance, and development. The study was an attempt to provide insight for program administrators by identifying current practices related to website design and development. This was the first study to identify current trends in website design and development at nationally accredited recreation programs. This information can be used to evaluate existing websites and plan future website development.

On December 15, 2003, a metal fabrication shop owner died when a 4,000 pound steel base plate fell on him. While inside the shop building, the work crew of least three men, including the owner, fabricated a 10’x 20’ steel base plate to be used at a water treatment plant. The base plate was to house or serve as a bas anchor a large water pump. After welding connectors and channel iron beams to one side of the plate, the crew pushed the plate through a bay door with a forktruck to an outside area in back of the shop. …

The rapid growth of India's urban population has put enormous strains on all transport systems. Burgeoning travel demand far exceeds the limited supply of transport infrastructure and services. Public transport, in particular, has been completely overwhelmed. Most bus and train services are overcrowded, undependable, slow, inconvenient uncoordinated, and dangerous. Moreover, the public ownership and operation of most public transport services has greatly reduced productivity and inflated costs. India's cities desperately need improved and expanded public transport service. This study examines the in-situ shear performance and modes of failure of reinforced concrete (RC) T-beams (joists) strengthened with externally bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets. the experimental program consisted of testing a series of nine structural components at the Malcom Bliss Hospital, in St. Louis, Missouri. the members were tested to validate the different systems and techniques of strengthening. in particular, this paper covers cases of U-Wraps with and without end-anchors. the experimental results clearly indicate the contribution of externally bonded CFRP sheets in increasing the shear capacity of the system. the experimental and theoretical shear strength of …

Measures of psychopathy and the Adlerian construct of social interest have both been found to predict recidivism of convicted offenders. While the two constructs seem to identify related but opposite traits, the relationship between the traits has not been systematically examined. This study examined the relationship between social interest, lll as assessed by the Sulliman Scale of Social Interest (SSSI), and psychopathy, as assessed by the Psychopathic Personality Inventory (PPI) in order to clarify their relationship. It was hypothesized that the two constructs are inversely related. The study was also designed to address the psychometric characteristics of the two scales. …

This study strives to identify the differences and similarities among the accrediting policies on distance education of the six regional accrediting agencies for two-year and four-year institutions. Levels of incorporation of the American Association of University Professor (AAUP) principles and the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) benchmarks regarding distance education are identified and listed as either detailed, partial, or none. The growth of distance education programs in higher education must have direction and focus and the distance education policies of the accrediting agencies provide that guidance. The growing number of students enrolling at community colleges, the continuing number of underprepared students requiring remedial education, and the increasing number of students interested in the flexibility of online courses were the reasons for this study, which examined not only those demographic variables that research often suggests are related to success, but also the learner characteristic of self-regulation. Participants included 82 first-time freshman enrolled in an online study skills course at a two-year community college. Marshall's historic declaration has borne both lavish praise and unstinting criticism, and it serves as the commonly understood sentiment underlying the legal order of our country. At both federal and state levels, the "judicial department" rules our daily lives by virtue of saying "what the law is."

This Article surveys recent developments in state statutory and common law that affect labor and employment relations of Georgia employers. Accordingly, it surveys published decisions from the Georgia Court of Appeals and Georgia Supreme Court from June 1, 2003 to May 31, 2004. This Article also highlights specific revisions to the Official Code of Georgia Annotated ("O.C.G.A.").

The biggest news in Georgia legal ethics this year actually made it into the general press when the Georgia Supreme Court approved a bar committee opinion confirming that real estate closings remained the exclusive province of licensed Georgia lawyers. With the Justice Department, the Federal Trade Commission, and consumer advocates all weighing in with contrary opinions, the court held firm against the inevitable, continuing criticism and cries of protectionism. This survey period brought minimal changes in workers' compensation legislation, but several interesting decisions were issued. Among those decisions are cases confirming the exclusive remedy provisions of the Workers' Compensation Act (the "Act"), a case involving an injury that occurred when an employee was on a lunch break, and several statute of limitations cases.

This study examines the work of James Hillman-world-renowned psychologist, post-Jungian theorist and founder of archetypal psychology-with specific attention to the iterative illustrations of his central theoretical construct, the soul. An analytic rather than religious term, the soul's approximate definition, meaning, use, and significance as a therapeutic concept are considered across Hillman's 45-year career. To date, no published study has examined Hillman's work with this focus. Published roughly a decade apart, four seminal Hillman texts are analyzed using an interpretative methodology termed conservative hermeneutics.
