Economic Analysis Prepared For The Environmental Impact Statement On Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Conservation And Management On The Nebraska National Forest And Associated Units, Martin Beutler

This limited analysis resulted from a request by the Nebraska National Forest to provide some economic estimates to the value of changes in forage availability that would result from three proposed levels of rodenticide use in the management of black-tailed prairie dogs (BTPD) on the Nebraska National Forest (NNF) and associated units managed by NNF (i.e. Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, Ft. Pierre National Grasslands in South Dakota, and the Oglala National Grasslands in Nebraska.) The values of changes in forage availability were determined based on three alternatives of rodenticide use. These alternatives include: (1) limit use of rodenticides to only …

This review article broadly traces the historical development, diagnostic criteria, clinical and neuropathological characteristics, and treatment strategies related to mild cognitive impairment (MCI), The concept of MCI is considered in the context of other terms that have been developed to characterize the elderly with varying degrees of cognitive impairment Criteria based on clinical global scale ratings, cognitive test performance, and performance on other domains of functioning are discussed. Approaches employing clinical, neuropsychological, neuroimaging, biological, and molecular genetic methodology used in the validation of MCI are considered, including results from cross-sectional, longitudinal, and postmortem investigations. The U.S. securities markets offer the greatest opportunities for businesses that wish to raise additional capital or expand their shareholder base. Large non-U.S.corporations regularly tap the U.S. market for infusions of capital, and the securities of many non-U.S. corporations are listed on the New York Stock Exchange or traded on NASDAQ. Smaller non-U.S. entities, however, may be deterred from entering the U.S. markets because of concerns about the burdens of U.S. securities regulation. These concerns are legitimate: a decision to enter the highly-regulated U.S. securities markets should not be made lightly. For non-U.S. private issuers, perhaps the greatest difficulty in …

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) either intentionally or because of shortsightedness or ignorance have diminished the importance of the study of law. By choosing to ignore the news headlines and the illegal and unethical behavior of some executives, these organizations fail to realize the connection between a knowledge of the law and the quality of business leaders. The marginalization of legal studies ill-serves our students. The new computerized CPA Exam is the latest manifestation of this trend.

The credit union industry has been consolidating for more than a quarter century, as well as broadening and diversifying its product and service offerings. In this period the operating performance and internal structure of the industry has been evolving in a number of ways. This study examines the changing chartering patterns of credit unions between state and federal. The number of credit unions, the number of members, and the assets held by credit unions in each of these categories have been growing at different rates. Many questions are raised about the generally accepted accounting principles that guide the preparation and reporting of financial information by contemporary companies, especially those publicly-owned companies that must disclose financial information on a regular basis. Such questions raise another question which motivated this historical study: "What was the nature and extent of financial information reporting in The Wall Street Journal before there was an organized, specified body of accounting principles—before GAAP?" Purpose - To compare the test-retest reliability, convergent validity, and overall feasibility/usability of activity-based (AB) and time-based (TB) approaches for obtaining self-reported moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) from adolescents.

Methods - Adolescents (206 females and 114 males) completed two 3-d physical activity recalls using the AB and TB surveys, which contained identical lists of physical activities. The participants wore an MTI Actigraph^® accelerometer for the same period.

Results - The TB instrument took about 3 min longer to complete (P=0.022). Overall 2-d test-retest correlations for MVPA were similar for the two surveys (r=0.676 and 0.667), but the girls …

Discovery Of A Black Female Form Of Pterourus Appalachiensis (Papilionidae: Papilioninae) And Additional Observations Of The Species In West Virginia, Harry Pavulaan, David M. Wright

The Taxonomic Report of the International Lepidoptera Survey

The univoltine Pterourus appalachiensis was described from the southern Appalachian Mountain region of the United States as a sympatric sibling of P. glaucus (Pavulaan & Wright 2002). A black form was unrecognized at that time. Subsequent sampling of populations at Spruce Knob, West Virginia, United States, revealed a unique black female phenotype present among typically yellow female appalachiensis. We believe that this phenotype represents a black female form of P. appalachiensis, thus broadening our understanding of this unusual species and firmly establishing its distinction from P. canadensis.

The Nebraska Ornithologists' Union Fall Field Days were held at the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey on September 24-26, 2004. Thirty-nine NOU members and friends were in attendance for a weekend of excellent weather and birding. Field trips, led by Dave Heidt, Robin Harding and Lanny Randolph, targeted the lakes in various counties to the north and west of Halsey, where a good variety of waterfowl was seen. Highlights included Trumpeter Swans, 11 species of ducks, White-faced Ibis in Grant Co., a Golden Eagle in Thomas Co., 16 species of shorebirds, 5 warbler species and 12 species of sparrows.

In "The Greater Snow Goose (Chen caerulescens atlanticus) in Nebraska" by W. Ross Silcock, published in the Sept. 2004 issue of The Nebraska Bird Review, we failed to credit Randy Buettner of Grand Island, who made the original observation of the Greater Snow Goose and provided the specimen, which was obtained in Clay Co. and is shown in the photo, to William Lemburg.
