Football's Intellectual Side: The Nfl Versus Super Bowl Parties And The Story Of The Fifty-Five Inch Television, 4 J. Marshall Rev. Intell. Prop. L. 125 (2004), Michael M. Fenwick
UIC Review of Intellectual Property Law
The increasing popularity of the National Football League’s Super Bowl Championship has spawned an increasing number of private parties, some that employ projection-screen televisions measuring up to twenty feet diagonally. Only days before the 2004 Super Bowl, the NFL sent cease-and-desist letters to a number of business proprietors claiming display of the broadcast on televisions larger than fifty-five inches diagonally violated the NFL’s rights under 17 U.S.C. § 110(5). This Comment will show that because 17 U.S.C. § 110(5) was written to protect authors within the music industry, its application to broadcast television fails because of television’s fundamentally different business …

Rehabilitate The Age Discrimination In Employment Act: Resuscitate The “Reasonable Factors Other Than Age” Defense And The Disparate Impact Theory, Judith J. Johnson

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) promised to protect older workers from discriminatory exclusion from the workforce, but recent studies show that older workers are being cut from the workforce and are unable to find employment. In a 1995 article, I warned of the potential dangers of construing the ADEA to allow employment decisions based on age-correlated criteria. Most courts have failed to heed these warnings and now approve employer practices, such as terminating employees based on higher salaries and refusing to hire workers with too much experience. On December 1, 1856, Elder Wilford Woodruff and Elder Franklin D. Richards left the Church historian's office for the home of Jedediah Grant, less than a block away. The hour was late, about 10:30 in the evening. It had snowed several inches during the day, and the weather was turning cold.

Heber J. Grant's European Mission, 1903-1906, Ronald W. Walker

Elder Heber J. Grant landed in Liverpool, England, in November 1903, and by the first of the year he officially assumed his new position as president of the European Mission. The mission began at Tromso, Norway; and ran to Cape Town, South Africa; with Iceland and India serving as distant east-west meridians. While the church had branches in each of these extremities, Grant's field of labor was more compact. Most of the mission's effort was reserved to the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, and Switzerland, where he had a general superintendency, and especially in the British Isles, where he had duties that …
