An Experimental Design For Measuring In Situ Radiation Damage To A Piezoelectric Transducer, Michael R. Severson Mar 2004

An Experimental Design For Measuring In Situ Radiation Damage To A Piezoelectric Transducer, Michael R. Severson

Theses and Dissertations

An experiment was conducted investigating the use of an acoustic pulse waveguide to collect response measurements from three piezoelectric acoustic emission (AE) transducers while the transducers were exposed to an active nuclear reactor neutron flux ranging from 1 x 1011 to 2.4 x 1012 neutrons per sq cms. Material, mechanical, and radiation studies were performed to determine a practical design for the construction of the experiment. Discreet frequency pulses generated by an Arbitrary Waveform Generator were transmitted by an aluminum waveguide to the core of the Ohio State University Research Reactor (OSURR). Three AF transducers coupled to the …

Attitudes Of Expectant Fathers Regarding Breastfeeding And The Effect Of The Expectant Father On The Expectant Mother's Intention To Breastfeed, Danielle M. Semling Mar 2004

Attitudes Of Expectant Fathers Regarding Breastfeeding And The Effect Of The Expectant Father On The Expectant Mother's Intention To Breastfeed, Danielle M. Semling

Theses and Graduate Projects

Background: previous studies regarding breastfeeding have demonstrated the importance of the father in the infant feeding decision and shown that mothers were more likely to breastfeed if the father had a positive opinion of breastfeeding. Methods: This study intended to determine what attitudes fathers had regarding breastfeeding and if a positive view of breastfeeding by a father correlated to the intention of his partner to breastfeed. The subjects for the study were couples participating together in one of two birth and parenting classes- The mothers were questioned about their intended breastfeeding decision, their perceived support from their male partner and …

Going To War With Defense Contractors: A Case Study Analysis Of Battlefield Acquisition, Ryan M. Novak Mar 2004

Going To War With Defense Contractors: A Case Study Analysis Of Battlefield Acquisition, Ryan M. Novak

Theses and Dissertations

The escalating use of contractors on the battlefield in highly critical operational areas is a trend that is increasing across the DoD. Contractors have a vital role supporting CONUS missions, but they are also on the battlefield in defense of our nation, supporting the warfighter and their weapon systems. As the use of contractors on the battlefield continues to gain favor within the DoD, and as contractor s roles continue to expand and become more critical, it is imperative to improve the current way that the DoD, and specifically Air Force acquisition professionals, procure such services. This research analyzes inputs …

Discovering The Merit Of The Wavelet Transform For Object Classification, Matthew D. Eyster Mar 2004

Discovering The Merit Of The Wavelet Transform For Object Classification, Matthew D. Eyster

Theses and Dissertations

Vision is the primary sense by which most biological systems collect information about their environment. Computer vision is a branch of artificial intelligence concerned with endowing machines with the ability to understand images. Object recognition is a key part of machine vision with far reaching benefits ranging from target recognition, surveillance systems, to automation systems. Extraction of salient features from an image is one of the key steps in object recognition. Typically, geometric primitives are extracted from an image using local analysis. However, the wavelet transform provides a global approach with good locality. Additionally, the directional and multiresolution properties may …

Organizing To Exploit The Information Domain: A Content Analysis Of The Transformation Literature, Todd S. Schug Mar 2004

Organizing To Exploit The Information Domain: A Content Analysis Of The Transformation Literature, Todd S. Schug

Theses and Dissertations

The US Department of Defense (DoD) has embarked on an ambitious plan to transform itself. A driving force behind this transformation is a realization that society has moved into an information age and that information age warfare will be significantly different from anything that has gone before it. At the heart of the transformation effort is a concept known as Network Centric Warfare (NCW). Transformation, information age warfare, and NCW all depend heavily on how the DoD handles the information domain. Although there are many organization structure/design issues that will derive from the transformation imperatives, one of central concerns is …
