A Comparative Study Of Artificial Neural Networks And Info Fuzzy Networks On Their Use In Software Testing, Deepam Agarwal
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
It is very important that the software being delivered to the user is reliable and fault free. This makes software testing one of the most important phases in the software development life cycle. The problem being faced by everyone is the time it takes to test the software, which is normally huge. An important part of the software testing process is running and evaluating test scenarios. The objective of this part is to evaluate how well the application under test conforms to its specifications. One of the ways to achieve this is to generate the test cases and make use …

Where Do High Tech Commercial Innovations Come From?, Lewis Branscomb
Duke Law & Technology Review
On February 19, 2004, Dr. Lewis Branscomb gave the Meredith and Kip Frey Lecture in Intellectual Property at Duke Law School. In his speech, Dr. Branscomb discussed various models for turning basic scientific inventions into high-tech innovations and highlighted the roles that universities, private investors, and intellectual property law play in each model. Dr. Branscomb concluded that this intermediary process is the most important step in getting high-tech innovations to market.

Tyrosine B10 Inhibits Stabilization Of Bound Carbon Monoxide And Oxygen In Soybean Leghemoglobin, Suman Kundu, George C. Blouin, Scott A. Premer, Gautam Sarath, John S. Olson, Mark S. Hargrove
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Detailed comparisons of the carbon monoxide FTIR spectra and ligand-binding properties of a library of E7, E11, and B10 mutants indicate significant differences in the role of electrostatic interactions in the distal pockets of wild-type sperm whale myoglobin and soybean leghemoglobin. In myoglobin, strong hydrogen bonds from several closely related conformations of the distal histidine (HisE7) side chain preferentially stabilize bound oxygen. In leghemoglobin, the imidazole side chain of HisE7 is confined to a single conformation, which only weakly hydrogen bonds to bound ligands. The phenol side chain of TyrB10 appears to “fix” the position of His …

Methods To Impair Hematologic Cancer Progenitor Cells And Compounds Related Thereto, Craig Jordan
Methods To Impair Hematologic Cancer Progenitor Cells And Compounds Related Thereto, Craig Jordan
Internal Medicine Faculty Patents
Primitive or progenitor hematologic cancer cells have been implicated in the early stages and development of leukemia and malignant lymphoproliferative disorders, including acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and chronic lymphoid leukemia (CLL). Interleukin-3 receptor alpha chain (IL-3Rα or CD123) is strongly expressed on progenitor hematologic cancer cells, but is virtually undetectable on normal bone marrow cells. The present invention provides methods of impairing progenitor hematologic cancer (e.g., leukemia and lymphomic) cells by selectively targeting cells expressing CD123. These methods are useful in the detection and treatment of leukemias and malignant lymphoproliferative disorders. Also provided are compounds useful …

A Stable Isotopic Examination Of Particulate Organic Matter During Karenia Brevis Blooms On The Central West Florida Shelf: Hints At Nitrogen Sources In Oligotrophic Waters, Julie Ann Havens
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Blooms of the red tide dinoflagellate Karenia brevis occur annually on the west Florida shelf. In the late summer/early fall months, background concentrations increase from 103 cells L-1 to excesses of 106 cells L-1. Blooms are most common between Tampa Bay and Charlotte Harbor, and may be maintained for months. The region’s hydrography may play a role in the initiation, maintenance and termination of blooms.
The west Florida shelf is depauperate in inorganic nutrients. Inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus rarely exceed the limits of detection, whereas dissolved organic nitrogen is often present at concentrations of 15 …

An Infrared Approach To Thin-Layer Based Biosensors, Ignacio J. Garcia, Nicole Branan, Rola Altoos, Todd A. Wells
Utah Space Grant Consortium
Biosensors exploit the theoretical and instrumental approaches of analytical chemistry and the unique properties of biological molecules. They utilize the intermolecular interactions and specificity found in systems such as hormone-receptor, antigenantibody, pathogen-host and substrate-enzyme. Manipulation of the structural and energetic factors that guide formation of these macromolecular complexes may provide a rational basis for the development of new sensor technology. To this end we have investigated myoglobin thin films for their ability to bind ligands. FTIR spectroscopy has been chosen as the transduction methods and has been shown to discriminate between several analytes.
Model Adjustments For Individual Patients Using Rocuronium, Rose Mills
Model Adjustments For Individual Patients Using Rocuronium, Rose Mills
Utah Space Grant Consortium
Neuromuscular blocking agents are used in the operating room to allow safe intubation and prevent dangerous movement during surgery. Six patients scheduled for laparoscopic surgery were monitored throughout the operation. We then adjusted the pharmacodynamic model parameters to better fit individual patient responses. Adjusting the models as the patient began to recover provided significantly better prediction of recovery from rocuronium when adjusted at a train-of-four ratio of 0.3. When these predictions are displayed to an anesthesiologist, or an astronaut who may be less trained in anesthesia, they may help in determining if another bolus of rocuronium or a reversal agent …
Improved Hexahedral Meshing On Biological Models, Sara Richards, Steven Benzley, Jason Sheperd, Mike Stephenson
Improved Hexahedral Meshing On Biological Models, Sara Richards, Steven Benzley, Jason Sheperd, Mike Stephenson
Utah Space Grant Consortium
Certain applications of the finite element method require hexahedral meshes for the underlying discretization. A procedure, known as THexing, which is guaranteed to produce an all-hex mesh is to begin with a tetrahedral mesh and then subdivide each element into four hexahedra. This research presents a method for improving the THex approach, known as Diced THexing, or DTHexing. The DTHex approach is based on general coarsening tools. An initial triangle surface mesh is coarsened and smoothed iteratively until a coarse mesh of reasonable quality is obtained. The volume is then easily meshed using a tetrahedral scheme, then refined using ’h’ …

Trait Discrimination As Sex Discrimination: An Argument Against Neutrality, Kim Yuracko
Trait Discrimination As Sex Discrimination: An Argument Against Neutrality, Kim Yuracko
Public Law and Legal Theory Papers
Title VII prohibits discrimination whereby women or men are denied employment opportunities because of their status as such. Much of the employment discrimination taking place today, however, targets not all women or men, but only those with particular traits or characteristics - for example, women who are aggressive or men who are effeminate. This article addresses the question of when, if ever, trait discrimination is actionable sex discrimination under Title VII. The dominant response advocated by scholars has been to require employers to act in a rigid and formalistically sex-neutral manner toward their employees. If an employer allows female employees …
