PREP Reports & Publications
In New Hampshire, the Department of Environmental Services’ (NH DES) Site Specific Program, which enforces Administrative Rule Env-Ws 415 pursuant to RSA 485, is the primary mechanism for regulating stormwater runoff from development sites to surface waters. Rule Env-Ws 415 expires June 30, 2004. Although Program staff will recommend renewing the current Rule to continue regulatory authority over the short term, NH DES has also expressed an intention to organize a committee that will renew and revise Env-Ws 415 during the course of 2004 and 2005.
The purpose of this report is to provide NH DES with applicable stormwater management …

Predicting The Use Of Personal Respiratory Protection Among Workers In Swine Confinement Buildings, M. Susan Jones
Nursing Faculty Publications
The purpose of this study was to identify the variables that influence the frequency of personal respiratory protection (PRP) use by workers in swine confinement buildings (SCBs). The study was designed to answer four research questions: 1). What is the validity and reliability of the Personal Respiratory Protection Survey (PRPS)? 2). How frequently do workers in SCBs wear PRP? 3). How do demographics, occupational histories, and self-reported respiratory health histories influence the use of PRP in SCBs? and 4). What are the relationships of the constructs (benefits, barriers, susceptibility, severity, norms) to the use of PRP by workers in SCBs? …

Studies In Rhodium Catalyzed Intramolecular C-H Insertion Of Amino Acid Derived Α-Diazo-Α-(Substituted)Acetamides And Its Application To The Total Synthesis Of Clasto-Lactacystin Β-Lactone, David L. Flanigan Jr.
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Lactacystin is a microbial metabolite isolated by Omura that exhibits neurotrophic activity in neuroblastoma cell lines. Lactacystin and especially its β-lactone analog are the first examples of non-polypeptide small molecules capable of specifically inhibiting the 20S proteasome. Various asymmetric total syntheses of lactacystin and its analogs have been reported. The total synthesis of clasto -lactacystin β-lactone is achieved using L-serine methyl ester as the starting material and the sole source of stereochemical induction. The success of this synthesis hinges on two featured transformations. The first key step involves formation of the γ -lactam core via rhodium (II) catalyzed intramolecular C-H …

Aspects Of The Ecology Of A Distinct Population Of Xenosaurus Platyceps From Querétaro, México, Julio A. Lemos-Espinal, Geoffrey R. Smith, Royce E. Ballinger
Papers in Herpetology
Lizards in the genus Xenosaurus (Xenosauridae) show a flattened morphology, which is presumably an adaptation for their crevice-dwelling habits. Despite their general morphological similarities (Ballinger et al., 2000a), there is considerable variation among species and populations in ecological traits, and even populations of nominally the same species (e.g., X. grandis grandis and X. g. agrenon; Ballinger et al., 1995; Lemos-Espinal et al., 2003a) show variation, sometimes as much as between different species.
Populations of Xenosaurus are often geographically isolated (e.g., Pérez Ramos et al., 2000; Nieto Montes de Oca, 2001), and movement appears to be minimal (Lemos-Espinal et al., …

Velocity And Temperature Characterization Of The First Vacuum Stage Expansion In An Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometer, William Neil Radicic
Velocity And Temperature Characterization Of The First Vacuum Stage Expansion In An Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometer, William Neil Radicic
Theses and Dissertations
The inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) is the analytical instrument of choice for trace element detection and quantification. Despite the popularity of ICP-MS, significant degradation in sensitivity and precision occurs as the result of matrix and instrument-induced effects. The sources of these effects are not well understood, characterized, or correlated to particular plasma operating condition settings or matrix compositions and involve both neutral and charged species. The purpose of this study is to characterize the behavior of metastable Ar (I) atom and Ca (II) ion through the measurement of Doppler velocities and fluorescence line width "temperatures."

Pv1 Is A Key Structural Component For The Formation Of The Stomatal And Fenestral Diaphragms, Radu V. Stan, Eugene Tkachenko, Ingrid R. Niesman
Dartmouth Scholarship
PV1 is an endothelial-specific integral membrane glycoprotein associated with the stomatal diaphragms of caveolae, transendothelial channels, and vesiculo-vacuolar organelles and the diaphragms of endothelial fenestrae. Multiple PV1 homodimers are found within each stomatal and fenestral diaphragm. We investigated the function of PV1 within these diaphragms and their regulation and found that treatment of endothelial cells in culture with phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) led to upregulation of PV1. This correlated with de novo formation of stomatal diaphragms of caveolae and transendothelial channels as well as fenestrae upon PMA treatment. The newly formed diaphragms could be labeled with anti-PV1 antibodies. The upregulation …
Oligosaccharide Analysis Via Anion Attachment Using Negative Mode Electrospray (Es) And Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (Maldi) Mass Spectrometry, Yanjie Jiang
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Eleven tested anions were able to form adducts with neutral oligosaccharides at low cone voltage in negative ion mode electrospray mass spectrometry. Among them, fluoride and acetate have the abilities to significantly enhance the absolute abundance of [M-H]- for neutral oliogosaccharides. The chloride adduct has the best stability among all the adduct species investigated. For the above three anions, CID of adduct species may be used for structural determination of neutral oligosaccharides. In the presence of F- and Ac-, simultaneous detection of acidic oligosaccharides and neutral oligosaccharides was achieved. The ratio of Cl- : non-Cl-containing product ions obtained in CID …

The Synthesis Of Core-Shell Iron@Gold Nanoparticles And Their Characterization, Zhihui Ban
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Au-coated magnetic Fe nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized by partial replacement reaction in a polar aprotic solvent with about 11 nm core of Fe and about 2.5 nm shell of Au. In this work, a combination of TEM (transmission electron microscopy), XRD (X-ray Powder Diffractometry), EDS (Energy disperse X-ray spectroscopy), SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device), TGA (Thermograviometric analysis), UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and Faraday rotation were employed to characterize the morphology, structure, composition and magnetic properties of the products. HRTEM images show clear core-shell structure with different crystal lattices from Fe and Au. SQUID magnetometry reveals that particle magnetic properties are …
Determination Of Noncovalent Intermolecular Interaction Energy From Electron Densities, Yuguang Ma
Determination Of Noncovalent Intermolecular Interaction Energy From Electron Densities, Yuguang Ma
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Noncovalent intermolecular interactions, widely found in molecular clusters and bio-molecules, play a key role in many important processes, such as phase changes, folding of proteins and molecular recognition. However, accurate calculation of interaction energies is a very difficult task because the interactions are normally very weak. Rigorous expressions for the electrostatic and polarization interaction energies between two molecules A and B, in term of the electronic densities, have been programmed: (see formula in document). Z is atomic charge, ρ0 is the electron density of the isolated molecule and Δρind is the electron density change of the molecule caused …
