Images Of The Intrapersonal Organization: Soul Making At Work, Mary A. Hazen, Jo A. Isbey

International Journal of Transpersonal Studies

In this paper, the authors use archetypal theory to explore the relationship between personal and

organizational development and the role of tacit knowledge and active imagination in such development.

The authors claim that organizational change occurs within each person as well as at the

more frequently studied levels of small group and large system; and that individuals and their relationship

with work and the organization as experienced develop concurrently. The authors’ position

is illustrated through a case taken from a larger qualitative study using methods of data collection

and analysis rooted in an interpretive framework.

Seminar Research Paper Series

Peer assistance and review (PAR) programs are prominent and controversial mechanism within the education reform movement. Undertaken as a joint initiative between unions and school districts, they are new systems of teacher professional development and evaluation. This paper examines the theoretical framework against which peer assistance and review programs should be designed. Using literature on standards, professional development, teacher knowledge, motivation, and behavioral change, guidelines for the creation of PAR programs are developed. Implications of the creation of peer review systems are discussed, including increased accountability and responsibility for teachers and enhanced professionalism for educators in general. A theoretical examination …

The Moderating Roles Of National Culture And The Country Institutional Profiles On The Effect Of Market Orientation And Entrepreneurial Orientation On The Performance Of Banks In Jordan: An Empirical Investigation, Musa A. Dwairi Jan 2004

The Moderating Roles Of National Culture And The Country Institutional Profiles On The Effect Of Market Orientation And Entrepreneurial Orientation On The Performance Of Banks In Jordan: An Empirical Investigation, Musa A. Dwairi

Doctoral Dissertations

The primary purpose of the study was to extend Jaworski and Kohli's (1993) market orientation (MO) model in the banking industry of Jordan. Specifically, the study (1) added entrepreneurial orientation (EO) as a second mediating variable with market orientation, (2) incorporated national culture and country institutional profile as moderators on the performance effects of MO and EO, and (3) replicated other relationships in the market orientation model of Jaworski and Kohli in the banking industry of Jordan. These moderating variables explained some of the discrepancies in the direct performance effects of MO and EO observed in international contexts.

Assessment Methods For Student Learning Outcomes In General Education At Urban And Metropolitan Universities, Angela R. Albert Jan 2004

Assessment Methods For Student Learning Outcomes In General Education At Urban And Metropolitan Universities, Angela R. Albert

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The foci of this qualitative study were twofold. First, the researcher wanted to know what instruments and methods of data collection are being used to assess core general education intended student-learning outcomes at 62 urban and metropolitan universities (members of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities). Second, the researcher was interested in knowing the extent to which these approaches to measurement are producing data that can be used for improvement purposes. A review of the literature revealed that only 15% of institutions that indicated in a previous study that they were initiating change in the curriculum of general education …

Enforcing The Charter: The Supervisory Role Of Superior Courts And The Responsibility Of Legislatures For Remedial Systems, Marilyn L. Pilkington Jan 2004

Enforcing The Charter: The Supervisory Role Of Superior Courts And The Responsibility Of Legislatures For Remedial Systems, Marilyn L. Pilkington

The Supreme Court Law Review: Osgoode’s Annual Constitutional Cases Conference

In this paper, the author examines the implications of the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Doucet-Boudreau v. Nova Scotia (Minister of Education) on a superior court’s jurisdiction to supervise government compliance with remedial orders in constitutional litigation. Drawing parallels between constitutionally-based judicial supervision and the traditional remedies judges exercise in equity, the author argues that the former is a natural extension of the latter types of equitable remedies and that the apparent stark division between the majority and minority decisions in the Supreme Court can be more readily explained by procedural preferences and the degree of deference each would …

Leading Change: Creating A Culture Of Assessment, Patricia M. Dwyer

To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development

In Leading Change, John Kotter (1996) outlines an eight-step process to effect major organizational change. At Shepherd College, the assessment process that evolved into a culture of assessment mirrors the sttps that Kotter describes. In 1998, Shepherd College found itself in a predicament that many colleges and universities can relate to: slated for an accreditation visit in 2002 with campus assessment efforts stalled at every turn. A new director organized an assessment task force, established a template for assessment plans and reports, and began grassroots education about assessment. Over the four years, a vision that aligned assessment with improving student …

Evidence Of The Transformational Dimensions Of The Scholarship Of Teaching And Learning: Faculty Development Through The Eyes Of Sotl Scholars, Connie M. Schroeder

To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development

This analysis began ftom two unlikely starting points: a favorite Marcel Proust quote below that has nothing to do with faculty development, but could, and Pat Hutchings (2000) descriptive quote, “The scholarship of teaching and learning [SoTL]is characterized by a transformational agenda” (p. 8). Do SoTL faculty development programs faster transformation? Is there evidence of a transformational process and transformative learning? The project summaries of eight SoTL scholars were analyzed for evidence of transformation. The evidence for transformation of landscapes of learning, teaching, scholarship, and self are explored ftom SoTL scholars’ perspectives in a faculty development program, providing insight into …
