Benchmarking Visualstudio.Net For The Development And Implementation Of A Manufacturing Execution System, Amit S. Rege
Theses
The focus of this thesis is to show the utility of Microsoft's' .NET framework in developing and implementing a MES system. The manufacturing environment today, more than ever, is working towards achieving better yields, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction. Companies such as DELL are rapidly outgrowing their competition due to better management of their product lifecycles. The time between receiving a new order to the time the final product is shipped is getting shorter. Historically, business management applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems have been implemented without too much importance given to …

Linux Kernel Support For Micro-Heterogeneous Computing, Kim R. Schuttenberg
Linux Kernel Support For Micro-Heterogeneous Computing, Kim R. Schuttenberg
Theses
Heterogeneous Computing (HC) is a technique speeds the computation of large tasks by utilizing multiple computers or supercomputers, each of which is best suited to a particular type of computation. Micro-Heterogeneous Computing (MHC) has been proposed to bring this practice to individual computers. With the aid of the higher speed, short distance interconnects found within the next generation of personal computers and commodity servers, it should be possible to apply HC to relatively small grain sizes. MHC draws on the observations that in order for a new computing technology to become widely accepted, and cost effective, there must be a …
The Role Of Advertising Agencies On The Demand For Personalized Communications, Kathryn C. Moore
The Role Of Advertising Agencies On The Demand For Personalized Communications, Kathryn C. Moore
Theses
A personalized campaign allows an agency to utilize its clients' records to reach its audience by sending targeted messages and promotions, which often results in improved business results. This pull is achieved by using detailed databases with a large quantity of information about existing and potential customers. This information, in the form of text, data and sometimes images, is then placed into a document in a way that is easy for customers to locate and act upon. Variable data technology should be embraced by advertising agencies as a definite way to improve response rates and generate more business. But what …

Migration From Windows To Linux For A Small Engineering Firm "A&G Associates", Trimbak Vohra
Theses
The primary objectives of this paper are to complete a Masters Degree in Information Technology as required by Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York, and to assist a small engineering firm in evaluating the possibilities of migrating from Microsoft Windows to a Linux Operating System. A recent announcement that Microsoft will limit support on some of their existing commonly used operating systems, along with their monopoly in the marketplace, will continue to allow them to sell licenses at high prices. These factors could force many companies to consider transiting to other operating systems which offer more support services and …

A Study Into The Utilization Of Value-Added Services In Commercial Printing Companies, Kalpana Chhita
Theses
Today's printing industry is in a state of transition. It has become an industry that no longer solely relies on print for sustainability. Thus, printers as well as print service providers are incorporating different strategies into their business models to provide the types of services that customers now require in order to achieve their own business goals (Cummings and Chhita, 2004). This research was conducted in an effort to better understand the impact of these emerging trends. The primary objectives were: 1) to clearly understand the changing business dynamics in the printing industry, 2) to determine whether there is a …

Network Disruption By Spoofing Service Attacks, Yadasiri Lertlit
Theses
It is clearly evident as the Internet continues to grow that it has become a prominent and dependable source for information, and tool for business-use. Our dependence on the Internet makes it critical to be able to distinguish between which types of attacks it can withstand and the types of attacks that will disable the network. Moreover, the understanding of the areas of vulnerability of the different types of networks will help find means of making it more secure in the future. With the existence of various forms of attacks against the network, network development should look ahead and strengthen …
The Semantic Web … Sounds Logical!, Anthony J. Radogna Jr
The Semantic Web … Sounds Logical!, Anthony J. Radogna Jr
Theses
The Semantic Web will be an enabling technology for the future because as all of life's components continue to progress and evolve, the demand on us as humans will continue to increase. Work will expect more productivity; family will demand more quality time, and even leisure activities will be technologically advanced. With these variables in mind, I believe humans will demand technologies that help to simplify this treacherous lifestyle. As patterns already indicate, one of the driving forces of technological development is efficiency. Developers are consistently looking for ways to make life's demands less strenuous and more streamlined. The benefits …

Practical Applications Of Design Semiotics, Amy Bendall
Theses
This thesis explores instructional design and how it can be implemented in a large lecture course in order to improve the comprehension and retention of theoretical design concepts. My thesis was inspired by the difficulty in teaching first year undergraduate students design theory in the required undergraduate course Design Survey. One consistent problem is the student's inability to understand how these abstract concepts apply to them individually and within their academic discipline.

Legal And Ethical Duties Of Lawyers After Sarbanes-Oxley, Roger C. Cramton, George M. Cohen, Susan P. Koniak
Faculty Scholarship
This Article examines the legal and ethical duties of lawyers after Sarbanes-Oxley, focusing on the application, interpretation and ambiguities of the SEC rule implementing Section 307. Although our primary frame of reference will be on the SEC's new rules as an aspect of lawyer regulation, those rules are part of federal securities laws and should be considered in that aspect, i.e., whether they advance the purposes of the federal securities laws. The rules affecting lawyers should not be assessed in a vacuum as a mere turf war between federal regulators on the one hand and the organized bar and its …
