This study was aimed at identifying the play behaviors of hospitalized preschool aged children. Hospitals that had child life programs were the focus. Two hundred informational surveys and playroom observation forms were mailed throughout the United States. Surveys asked about the hours of operation of the child life program, hours of operation of the institution’s playroom, whether adults had to accompany children to the playroom, and whether a member of the child life staff was always present in the playroom. Number of child life staff at the institution and child life staff to patient ratio was also recorded. Participants were …

The performance of theater and drama in Utah and the buildings that housed them are described. Theater was an important community project from the earliest days of Mormon settlement in Utah, beginning with the Social Hall. The Salt Lake Theatre opened in 1862 and until its demolition in 1928 was an important theater in the American West. Theater was a community project by the Mormon settlers of the Salt Lake Valley under the leadership of Brigham Young.

Using A Modified Purse Seine To Collect And Monitor Estuarine Fishes, Michael R. Wessel, Brent L. Winner

We developed a modified purse seine to sample shallow water estuarine habitats and evaluated the efficacy of using this gear as a tool for monitoring estuarine fish populations in Tampa Bay, Florida. The purse seine (183-m long, 5.2 m deep and 50-mm stretch mesh nylon throughout) was easily deployed and retrieved by a 7 m flat-bottomed, bow-driven boat with a hydraulic wench and aluminum pursing davit. Retention rates of pinfish (Lagodon rhomboides) marked and released into 35 net sets averaged 49% (range 9-100%). Retention rates were not significantly influenced by sets over vegetated and unvegetated bottom types, various …

Application of adaptive matched field processing to the problem of detecting quiet targets in shallow water is complicated by source motion, both the motion of the target and the motion of discrete interferers. Target motion causes spreading of the target peak, thereby reducing output signal power. Interferer motion increases the dimensionality of the interference subspace, reducing adaptive interference suppression. This paper presents three techniques that mitigate source motion problems in adaptive matched field processing. The first involves rank reduction, which enables adaptive weight computation over short observation intervals where motion effects are less pronounced. A new approach to synthesis of permutation class of quantum logic circuits has been proposed in this paper. This approach produces better results than the previous approaches based on classical reversible logic and can be easier tuned to any particular quantum technology such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). First we synthesize a library of permutation (pseudobinary) gates using a Computer-Aided-Design approach that links evolutionary and combinatorics approaches with human experience and creativity. Next the circuit is designed using these gates and standard 1*1 and 2*2 quantum gates and finally the optimizing tautological transforms are applied to the circuit, producing a …
