The Independent Rep As A Source Of Competitive Advantage: An Actionable Scale For Rep Selection, Kathleen H. Gruben, Barbara J. Coe Jan 2003

The Independent Rep As A Source Of Competitive Advantage: An Actionable Scale For Rep Selection, Kathleen H. Gruben, Barbara J. Coe

Marketing: Faculty Publications

This study develops a scale that offers an actionable approach for suppliers’ use in selecting their reps. Rep selection is the critical first step suppliers take in developing profitable, long-term relationships with retailers. Retailers’ loyalties are often bestowed on the rep, rather than the supplier. As identified in the study, the rep needs to be professional, accommodating, ethical, sensitive, and compassionate to satisfy the retailer. The scale provides suppliers a technique for measuring these characteristics. Prior to this scale, no instrument was available to measure these characteristics, which increase the retailer’s likelihood of developing loyalty.

Comparison Between The Ultraviolet Emission From Pulsed Microhollow Cathode Discharges In Xenon And Argon, Isfried Petzenhauser, Leopold D. Biborosch, Uwe Ernst, Klaus Frank, Karl H. Schoenbach Jan 2003

Comparison Between The Ultraviolet Emission From Pulsed Microhollow Cathode Discharges In Xenon And Argon, Isfried Petzenhauser, Leopold D. Biborosch, Uwe Ernst, Klaus Frank, Karl H. Schoenbach

Bioelectrics Publications

We measured the dynamic I–V characteristics and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission lines of the second continuum in xenon (170 nm) and argon (130.5 nm) from pulsed microhollow cathode discharges (MHCD). For pulse lengths between 1 and 100 μs the dynamic I–V characteristics are similar in both inert gases. Only the time variation of the VUV emission line at 170 nm for xenon can be related to the dimer excited states. In argon the energy transfer between the Ar*2 dimers and the oxygen impurity atoms is responsible for a qualitatively different time behavior of the resonance line at 130.5 nm. …

Community Integration And Normalization, Janice Eileen Cunningham Jan 2003

Community Integration And Normalization, Janice Eileen Cunningham

PCOM Psychology Dissertations

Utilizing archived data for 650 individuals, psychosocial variables were examined to elucidate the effect of deinstitutionalization on success of community integration. Deinstitutionalization has been blamed for a host of societal ills including the burgeoning homeless population and for overcrowding in prisons. Many claim that deinstitutionalization has failed and that the chronically severely mentally ill have not become part of their communities. Utilizing extant data on consumers released from Pennsylvania state hospitals as part of a unique initiative, the psychosocial variables of age, race, gender, length of institutionalization, placement following hospitalization and diagnosis were correlated with homelessness, incarceration, or whereabouts known …

Linear And Nonlinear Modeling Of Asperity Scale Frictional Melting In Brittle Fault Zones, Ravi V. S. Kanda Jan 2003

Linear And Nonlinear Modeling Of Asperity Scale Frictional Melting In Brittle Fault Zones, Ravi V. S. Kanda

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

Study of pseudotachylytes (PT) (frictional melts) can provide information on the physical and chemical conditions at the earthquake source. This study examines the influence of asperityscale fault dynamics on asperity temperature distribution, and therefore, the potential for frictional melting to occur. Frictional melting occurs adiabatically, and is initiated between opposing asperity tips during fault slip. Our model considers 2-D heat conduction in elastic, isotropic, hemispherical asperities, with temperature dependent thermal properties. The only heat source is a point heat flux pulse at the asperity tip. The non-linear problem was solved using the -form of Newton-Kantorovich procedure coupled with the -form …

Design Of A Lorentz, Slotless Self-Bearing Motor For Space Applications, Barrett Alan Steele Jan 2003

Design Of A Lorentz, Slotless Self-Bearing Motor For Space Applications, Barrett Alan Steele

University of Kentucky Master's Theses

The harsh conditions of space, the stringent requirements for orbiting devices, and the increasing precision pointing requirements of many space applications demand an actuator that can provide necessary force while using less space and power than its predecessors. Ideally, this actuator would be able to isolate vibrations and never fail due to mechanical wear, while pointing with unprecedented accuracy. This actuator has many space applications from satellite optical communications and satellite appendage positioning to orbiting telescopes. This thesis presents the method of design of such an actuator a self-bearing motor. The actuator uses Lorentz forces to generate both torque and …
