"The understanding of the scriptures within a religion is often imperative to the understanding of that religion as a whole. The content of the scriptures, as well as their origin and the message that they represent, are all very important aspects of learning about a religion. The religion of Sikhism is no exception to this idea. The understanding of this Indian religion derives from the comprehension of the complex sequence of development and current usage of its scriptures, commonly known as the Adi Granth."

Electrical and Computer Engineering Publications

The use of object oriented techniques and methodologies for the design of real-time control systems appears to be necessary in order to deal with the increasing complexity of such systems. Recently many object-oriented methods have been used for the modeling and design of real-time control systems. We believe that an approach that integrates the advancements in both object modeling and design methods, and real-time scheduling theory is the key to successful use of object oriented technology for real-time software. Surprisingly several past approaches to integrate the two either restrict the object models, or do not allow sophisticated schedulability analysis techniques. …

Public-Private Partnership? Shifting Paradigms Of Economic Governance In Ontario, Neil Bradford

In recent years, many governments have embraced new modes of economic governance that rely on public-private partnerships. These forms of governance effectively devolve authority and responsibility from the state, and instead rely on the policy networks found in civil society. This article argues that despite the general enthusiasm for such decentralized collaboration, there is significant variation in its meaning and practice. Comparing the public-private partnership strategies of two governments in Ontario in the 1990s, the article analyzes the origins and progress of two distinctive governance paradigms, looking for signs of economic innovation. The Assessment Of The Reading Speed And Reading Ability Of Thai University Commerce And Accountancy Students Who Are Trained By Using A Computer Reading Program, Kulaporn Hiranburana, Prakaikaew Opanon-Amata

This research investigated the use of the computer in developing reading abilities, including speed reading and reading comprehension. In this study, 99 students from the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy were trained in speed reading using a computer program in English. The program contained activities aimed at increasing reading speed such as eye movement, timed reading and paced reading. The performance of these students in speed reading, comprehension and general English proficiency pretests and post-tests was compared with that of students who did not take part in the training. Although writing replies to complaints has been a part of our business writing course for long, I was rather disappointed to see students writing similar letters with inadequate structure and making the same mistakes every semester. In this paper I describe a small-scale investigation into the problems faced by students while writing reply letters.

Since 1972, the volume of federal litigation involving faculty and their institutions has escalated. Tenure denial litigation, too, has increased. Prior to 1972, there were no published federal tenure denial decisions involving private colleges and universities. Since 1972, the number of published tenure denial decisions in the private institutional setting has increased steadily. Higher education administrators need to understand the risks that are involved in the tenure review process. These risks include the possibility of a protracted and costly lawsuit. A dearth of literature exists on the topic of professional development for public school teachers, according to Guskey ( 1997). This study attempted to contribute to the data base through both qualitative and quantitative analyses. The following two research questions were explored: 1) What are teacher perceptions regarding changes in professional development in the last five years? 2) Is there a relationship between personal satisfaction and the quality/availability, funding, and presence of outside consultants within professional development activities for teachers?
