Performing Two-Way Analysis Of Variance Under Variance Heterogeneity, Scott J. Richter, Mark E. Payton May 2003

Performing Two-Way Analysis Of Variance Under Variance Heterogeneity, Scott J. Richter, Mark E. Payton

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Small sample properties of the method proposed by Brunner et al. (1997) for performing two-way analysis of variance are compared to those of the normal based ANOVA method for factorial arrangements. Different effect sizes, sample sizes, and error structures are utilized in a simulation study to compare type I error rates and power of the two methods. An SAS program is also presented to assist those wishing to implement the Brunner method to real data.

Healthy Families-Healthy Church: A Systematic Approach To Family And Church, Lloyd Thomas Newton May 2003

Healthy Families-Healthy Church: A Systematic Approach To Family And Church, Lloyd Thomas Newton

Doctor of Ministry

The Church is a larger family system that experiences some of the same types of functional and dysfunctional characteristics, as does an individual or family. There are many systemic principles and concepts that are applicable to both church and family.

God's family is an example of love based on God's example in all families and His church. God's example is seen in the systemic approach. The Holy Trinity is the perfect example of balance, functionality, competence and relationship. Jesus states, "My Father and I are one" (John 1 0:30). "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father" (John 14:9b). …

The Effect Of Ultra Low Dose Epidural Analgesia On Newborn Breastfeeding Behaviors, Sharon Radzyminski May 2003

The Effect Of Ultra Low Dose Epidural Analgesia On Newborn Breastfeeding Behaviors, Sharon Radzyminski

Nursing Faculty Publications

Objective: To determine whether a difference in breastfeeding behaviors could be observed between newborns whose mothers received epidural analgesia for labor pain relief and those newborns whose mothers received no pain medication in labor. Design: There were two groups of neonates in this study. One group was born to mothers who received epidural analgesia, and one group was born to mothers who received no pain medication for labor. Both groups were observed for initial breastfeeding behaviors using the Premature Infant Breastfeeding Behavior Scale following birth and at 24 hours. Central nervous system functioning in the newborn was measured with the …

Taking The Sting Out Of Wasp Nests: A Dialogue On Modeling In Mathematical Biology, Jennifer C. Klein, Thomas Q. Sibley

Mathematics Faculty Publications

Wasps in hot climates build elongated nests, while in colder areas they tend to be circular. Mathematics cannot explain that, but there are questions about numbers of cells that can be answered.

Adaptive Differentiation In Response To Water Stress By Edaphic Races Of Lasthenia Californica (Asteraceae), Nishanta Rajakaruna, Gary E. Bradfield, Bruce A. Bohm, Jeanette Whitton May 2003

Adaptive Differentiation In Response To Water Stress By Edaphic Races Of Lasthenia Californica (Asteraceae), Nishanta Rajakaruna, Gary E. Bradfield, Bruce A. Bohm, Jeanette Whitton

Biological Sciences

Two edaphic races of Lasthenia californica sensu Ornduff (races A and C) grow in parapatry on a serpentine outcrop at Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, California. The races occupy distinct edaphic habitats that have different water‐holding capacities. We predict that the two races will show differentiation in reproductive strategies related to their response to water stress. In order to test this hypothesis, we performed a greenhouse experiment to characterize the reaction norms of the two races exposed to a gradient in water availability. We measured the response of five variables to the watering treatments: early survivorship, days to flowering, root/shoot dry …

West Mortlock Catchment Appraisal 2002, D G. Cummins May 2003

West Mortlock Catchment Appraisal 2002, D G. Cummins

Resource management technical reports

This report describes the soils, hydrology, natural vegetation and farming systems of the West Mortlock catchment and provides information on the threats to agriculture, infrastructure and natural resources caused by land degradation. West Mortlock covers over 700,000 hectares in the central wheatbelt. Rapid Catchment Appraisal aims to document salinity risk and management options by addressing all threats to the natural resource base, rather than isolating salinity as a separate issue.

Water Quality Assessment In Cypress Creek Nature Preserve, Jason Flora May 2003

Water Quality Assessment In Cypress Creek Nature Preserve, Jason Flora

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Swamps are unique ecological communities that provide many valuable ecosystem services. In Kentucky, however, many swamps were altered by cypress removal and land development in their watersheds. Cypress Creek Swamp, which lies near Paducah in western Kentucky, is a good example of a swamp whose ecological integrity may be threatened by past and current nearby land use practices. This study was conducted to assess the water quality and macro- and microinvertebrate communities in the swamp. Three sites were monitored for temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductivity, depth, phosphorus measured as orthophosphate, nitrite (NO2") and nitrate (NO3", NOx collectively), and ammonia …

Content Validation And Modification Of The Aauw Survey On Sexual Harassment In The Schools For Use With Juvenile Sexual Offenders, Daniel Belding

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This project was conducted to validate the survey used by the American Association of University Women in the study of sexual harassment in the schools, for use in studying the behaviors of juvenile sexual offenders in schools. The original survey was modified to decrease bias in the questions and eliminate questions that did not pertain to information that may be significant for juvenile sexual offenders. The project solicited information from juvenile sexual offenders (n=9) and experts (n=6) in the field of juvenile sexual offending to validate and modify the survey to better look at juvenile sexual offender behaviors in schools. …
