A Chinese proverb says that "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
For some that step is the beginning of the journey to attaining a college education. The decision to attend college is not an easy one; it is a decision riddled with thoughts of strict budgeting, massive time consumption, and of course dedication. Each person has his or her own reason for taking this step, but most would agree that the advantages of getting a degree tremendously outweigh any burden that the journey might place upon them. The journey begins as first-time students enter Freshmen …

Social Care Portfolio: An Aid To Integrated Learning And Reflection, Gay Graham, Bridgit Megarry
Articles

Reflection, which is considered a core element of social care training, is examined as a learning tool. A model for the promotion of reflection is presented which utilises peer learning, …

This paper describes the quantitative and qualitative methodologies used in a nine-site, two-year study of the effects of terminating Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for drug addiction and alcoholism (DA&A). The quantitative component of the study involved a longitudinal survey that collected data on 1,744 former DA&A recipients, representing about one-fourth of the national population, and achieved an aggregate follow-up rate of 82%. Despite limitations in questionnaire design and implementation, the survey provided reasonably valid data in the following areas: demographics, employment/income, medical/psychiatric status, drug and alcohol use, legal involvement, family/social functioning, food and hunger, housing, and victimization. The qualitative component …

Analysis Of Impulsive Behaviors Among Prison Inmates Convicted Of Violent Crimes, Inmates Convicted Of Non-Violent Crimes And Undergraduate College Students, Lonnie Kishpaugh Sr.
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Sudden explosive episodes of rage and human aggression by individuals occur daily in our society. While impulsive aggressive behavior is included in several established psychological disorders, the etiology of such behavior has been widely debated.
This study tested the hypotheses that prison inmates who have committed violent crimes were no more likely to exhibit impulsive behavior, than like numbers of prison inmates who had committed non-violent crimes, or college students who have no criminal record. Groups of 20 each of the respective populations were randomly administered the Kipnis Impulsiveness Scale in accordance with instructions from the manual.
