Satisfaction Of Orthognathic Surgical Patients In A Malaysian Population, K.K. Siow, S.T. Ong, C.B. Lian, Wei Cheong Ngeow
Research Publications (2000 to 2005)
Thirty-one patients treated at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya, were assessed for their satisfaction following orthognathic surgery. The female to male ratio was 22:9 with an age range of 17 to 36. Almost all patients (97) listed appearance as one of their rationales for surgery. More males (78) than females (59) wanted functional improvement, while more females (91) than males (33) hoped for improvement in self-confidence. All patients reported esthetic improvement while 68 each reported improvement in mastication and self-confidence. Slightly more than half (52) chose esthetic improvement as the single most important factor resulting in satisfaction. Almost …

“Private” Crime In Public Housing: Violent Victimization, Fear Of Crime And Social Isolation Among Women Public Housing Residents, Claire M. Renzetti, Shana L. Maier

Although public housing is typically associated with high crime rates, little research has been done on fear of crime or violent victimization experiences among public housing residents. Moreover, there are few studies that look specifically at women’s fear of crime or violent victimization experiences in public housing, despite the fact that women constitute the majority of public housing residents. These issues were examined in the present study through interviews with female public housing residents in Camden, New Jersey (NJ). The interviews reveal high rates of violent victimization, especially at the hands of intimates and acquaintances. Fear of crime is also …

Student Loan Defaults And Enrollment Persistence, Michael Podgursky, Mark Ehlert, Ryan Monroe, Donald Watson

This article provides an estimate of a model of student loan defaults using a rich panel data file. The file was constructed by merging administrative data on student loans, higher education enrollment and performance, and ACT test data for a large cohort of first time, full-time, degree-seeking students who entered Missouri two- and four-year public higher education institutions in the Fall 1992 semester. These loan recipients were tracked forward to December 1999 to determine which ones defaulted on their loans. Saving Special Places: Community Funding For Land Conservation, Brian Hart, Dorothy Tripp Taylor

In New Hampshire communities, there is a groundswell of interest and activity in conserving land. New Hampshire currently has more than forty-five land trusts. There are conservation commissions in all but a handful of towns. Many of them are engaged in conserving their special natural lands. Over half of the towns in the state have conservation funds fueled by the Land Use Change Tax. There have been 62 applications for land conservation projects to the Land and Community Heritage Investment Program since its inception in 2000. New Hampshire voters are appropriating significant taxpayer funds to conserve undeveloped land. Twelve communities, …
