Ji-Young Chung presented a graduate recital at 6 p.m. on April 26, 2002 in Davis Hall at the University of Northern Iowa School of Music. The recital was presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Master of Music degree in piano performance. The recital program consisted of pieces by Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin, Isaac Albeniz, and Modest Mussorgsky.

Mi-Young Jin presented a graduate organ recital at 6:00 p.m. on November 30, 2001 in Jebe Hall at the University of Northern Iowa School of Music. The recital was performed in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Master of Music degree in organ performance. The repertoire included works from the Baroque period to the Twentieth-century: Pierre Du Mage 's Grand Jeu, Johann Sebastian Bach's Trio Sonata No. 2 in C Minor, BWV 526, George Frideric Handel's Organ Concerto No. 13 in F Major (" The Cuckoo and Nightingale "), Anton Heiller's Tanz-Toccata, and Maurice Durufle's Suite, Op. 5.

Jason E. Jackson, tenor, presented his graduate voice recital on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at 6:00 in the evening in Davis Hall of the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, on the University of Northern Iowa campus, in partial fulfillment of the Master of Music degree. His program included works by Rossini, Mozart, Falla, Britten, and Still. The recital was presented in collaboration with pianist Jennifer Iverson. This abstract includes a discussion of the backgrounds and musical features of the recital pieces.

Emergence And Mortality Of Native Prairie Forbs Seeded Into An Established Stand Of Grasses, Dave Williams

Thousands of hectares of warm-season grass plantings in Iowa have few to no native forbs. Diversifying these species poor plant communities with native prairie forbs could result in increased resistance to climatic extremes, increased biodiversity, reduced noxious "weedy" plant invasion, and reduced geographic isolation between existing native prairie remnants.

I hypothesized that frequent mowing in the first one or two years after broadcasting forb seed into an established stand of warm-season grasses can increase forb emergence and reduce forb mortality. I further hypothesized that fall seeded forbs would establish better that those seeded in spring.

This research studied the developmental reasoning levels of students in three different first year high school chemistry courses as related to achievement defined by cumulative grade point average and course selection. The Lawson Test of Formal Operations modified by Roy Unruh and Bruce Perry at the University of Northern Iowa was used to determine cognitive developmental level of subjects. A consumer type chemistry course, a traditional high school chemistry course, and an honors course under consideration with Marshalltown Community College for credit status were the three courses utilized in this study. Since the revolution of 1989, Romania has been undergoing wide ranging changes affecting all aspects of the country including health promotion. As common to many newly independent states (NIS) the changes in socio-economics, on-going poverty, unemployment status, and the overall culture shock of political transition, has resulted in health characteristics and indicators improving in some areas but suffering in others.
