La Littérature D'Enfance Et De Jeunesse D'Ahmadou Kourouma, Guy Tegomo

For some years, a certain number of Black African publishers and writers have tried to reverse a tendency to forget young readers. Among the African writers, Ahmadou Kourouma holds a special place. His works for young readers actually reveal an unusual formal approach in which, for example, he combines two genres as different as the documentary album for children with a novel for adolescents. These are works reflecting an ancestral Africa for which the author strives to preserve the memory by placing at the disposition of young Africans the elements for reappropriating their culture and society.

The prix de la Francite, awarded by the journal Etudes franqaises, brought to Ahmadou Kourouma the publication of his first novel, Les soleils des independances, and exceptional renown for the author of a single novel. He received two other prizes when Les soleils ... was republished in Paris in 1970. After a "silence" of some twenty years, during which he was working as an actuary and an insurance expert in various countries, Kourouma surprised the literary world by publishing, in 1990, a second novel, Manne, outrages et defis. Despite the numerous forms of "aid" it has always received, Africa remains the only continent on the fringe of the tremendous development that the rest of the world has been experiencing in the last two centuries. The sectorial analysis of the literary works in this paper illustrates how the implementation of the various "Marshall Plan" is meant to bring about the development of a whole continent and a country like Cameroon. This article describes how physical health, psychological well-being and socio-economic reintegration are all important components of a complete recovery for landmine victims.

This study provides a statistical tool for assisting credit union managers in planning capital/asset ratio strategies for optimum operating efficiency. Focus groups, personal interviews, and survey data from more than 165 randomly selected responses form the basis of our model. The survey solicited information concerning the relationship between nine independent variables and expected optimum gross and net capital/asset ratios. The most statistically significant variables were total loan/assets, real estate loans/total loans, unsecured and credit card loans, the operating expense ratio, and the delinquency ratio. Two multiple regression equations were derived from these data. They allow operating managers to enter their …

Variety selection is a fundamental element in a sound crop production program. This report contains variety recommendations, descriptions, and yield data for the spring-seeded small grains – hard red spring wheat, oat, and barley, along with the fall-seeded small grain –hard red winter wheat. Key factors in variety selection include yield, yield stability, maturity, straw strength, height, test weight, quality, and disease resistance. Yield is an important factor; however, a variety with good disease resistance, straw strength, and high grain quality may be more profitable in some cases than the highest yielding variety. This publication reports the agronomic performance of entries in the 2002 South Dakota performance trials for conventional, or non-Roundup Ready, and Roundup Ready soybean varieties. Successful soybean production is greatly affected by variety selection for a given growing area. Important factors in selecting a variety include yield, maturity, plant height, lodging resistance, and Phytophthora root rot resistance. In the case of public varieties, additional information including emergence, shattering, and iron chlorosis scores (Table A) is given to assist in making variety selections.

When a married couple files a joint tax return, both spouses become jointly and severally liable for the income taxes due, including any additional taxes, interest, and penalties determined at a later date. In the event of an underpayment of income tax, the IRS can proceed against either spouse to collect the entire tax deficiency. This places a spouse in a precarious position in situations where the other spouse deliberately omits income or overstates deductions on a jointly filed income tax return, even if the spouse is totally unaware of the other's transgressions. This paper reports on a longitudinal study being conducted by Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and a team of Aboriginal consultants in thirteen schools across Australia, which is following the progress of a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in their early years of schooling. The data collected includes measures of early literacy and numeracy, complemented by qualitative data gathered through interviews, questionnaires and observation. The Determinants Of Lebanese Attitudes Toward Palestinian Resettlement: An Analysis Of Survey Data, Simon Haddad

Peace and Conflict Studies

A principal goal of this study has been to assess the impact of social distance on attitudes towards Palestinian resettlement using comprehensive cross-cultural survey research. The results are clear and consistent for all Lebanese sub-groups. Social distance is a significant predictor of attitudes toward resettlement for all six sub-groups examined. Specifically, social distance is inversely and consistently associated with unfavorable attitudes toward the prospect of the permanent settlement of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. These findings indicate on one hand, that the majority of Sunnis and Druze respondents endorse communal ties with Palestinians and approve their permanent economic, social and political …

Surrealism was an artistic movement of 1924−1936 which valued the imagination, plumbing the wisdom of the unconscious, and a creativity unfettered by reason and convention. Desnos was known for his agile imagination and his experimental style. He was also a journalist, produced radio shows, and wrote advertising jingles.
