How Ngos Can Build Peace: Landmine Clearance And Victim Assistance, Maureen Morton
How Ngos Can Build Peace: Landmine Clearance And Victim Assistance, Maureen Morton
The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction
Peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction are multi-disciplinary from a governance, organizational behavior, executive development and field perspective. Rarely, though, are the tools of competitive advantage, project planning and conflict resolution software used to seek linkages with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to coordinate resources, particularly to integrate the disparate sectors of landmine and UXO clearance, victim assistance and resourcing across industries. One method is to employ “best practices” from developed countries proven to develop abilities for disabled farmers and youth in post-conflict countries as one of a number of agrarian and health care initiatives built around demining as agricultural preparation. The goal is …

Fighting Jim Crow In Post-World War Ii Omaha 1945-1956, Kathleen Mary Davis
Fighting Jim Crow In Post-World War Ii Omaha 1945-1956, Kathleen Mary Davis
Student Work
Blacks in Omaha developed new approaches to fight Jim Crow practices in the post-World War II era. As a result, substantial gains were made in the areas of public accommodations, employment, residential segregation and education. The Omaha Star, a black newspaper, was instrumental in reporting civil rights abuses to its readers, while constantly urging them to unite and fight for their rights. Civil rights organizations played a crucial role in these efforts. The NAACP chapter was established as early as 1918, but after an initial burst it was relatively ineffective until the 1950s. The local Urban League, however, which dated …

Ahmadou Koruouma's fiction transcends the traditional limits of the novelistic genre. This explains, in part, the irritation of both the French and the African establishments following the appearance of his first novel, Les soleils des independances, in which both writing and language enhance the subversive effect. The banning and subsequent disappearance of Kourouma's play, Tougnatigui ou le Diseur de verite and the dramatic adaptations of his first two novels call for an appreciation of his entire work from a dramaturgical perspective. In this study, we shall analyse the constitutive elements of the intergeneric qualities underlying Kourouma's writing. To this end, …
