Go To Jail - Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Pay Civil Damages: The United States’ Hesitation Towards The International Convention On Cybercrime’S Copyright Provisions, 1 J. Marshall Rev. Intell. Prop. L. 364 (2002), Adrienne N. Kitchen
UIC Review of Intellectual Property Law
The problem of combating copyright infringement increases tenfold when considered in light of today’s global and digital environment. As more authors seek copyright protection, others seek to get around it by evading jurisdictional reach. The Council of Europe has developed the world’s first International Convention on Cybercrime, which incorporates harsh substantive copyright provisions but neglects to include effective enforcement protocols. This Comment proposes that the United States not rush to adopt the Council of Europe’s Convention, but rather seek a more definitive and effective solution in a singularly-focused agreement on intellectual property rights in a global economic context.

Research Reports & White Papers
Many years ago, Jim Casey, a founder and long-time CEO of the United Parcel Service, observed that his least prepared and least effective employees were those unfortunate individuals who, for various reasons, had spent much of their youth in institutions or who had been passed through multiple foster care placements. When his success in business enabled him and his siblings to establish a philanthropy (named in honor of their mother, Annie E. Casey), Mr. Casey focused his charitable work on improving the circumstances of disadvantaged children, in particular by increasing their chances of being raised in stable, nurturing family settings. …

The Accordion Of The Thirteenth Amendment: Quasi-Persons And The Right Of Self-Interest, Richard M. Lebovitz
The Accordion Of The Thirteenth Amendment: Quasi-Persons And The Right Of Self-Interest, Richard M. Lebovitz
St. Thomas Law Review
The subjects of this article are the nhos, especially non-human animals, for the reason that they are the most difficult class to reign in with the right of self-interest. But it is true that self-interest has far broader application to human embryos, human stem cells, and human cloning. These quasi-person candidates are put aside for now. In this article, a fusion of biology and law is used to suggest this new theory for extending U.S. Constitutional rights to quasi-person nhos. In evoking the Thirteenth Amendment, it does not mean that animal ownership is being equated with slavery. This is not …
