The New Teacher mentoring program at Powell School offers support and guidance to new teachers through mentoring, workshops, additional training, and on-the-job assessments. The New …

Just -In -Time Selling: Relation To Market Orientation, Organizational Structure And Organizational Performance, Kenneth Wilburn Green Jr.

Doctoral Dissertations

The purpose of this dissertation is to answer the following research questions related to the efficacy of a Just-in-Time (JIT) selling strategy: (1) What is the nature of the relationships among market orientation, JIT selling, organizational structure, and organizational performance constructs? (2) Does JIT selling mediate and/or moderate the relationships among market orientation and organizational structure and organizational performance?

The market orientation model theorized by Kohli and Jaworski (1990) and the JIT selling model theorized and tested by Germain, Dröge and Daugherty (1994) and Claycomb, Dröge and Germain (1999) are combined to facilitate investigation of the link between market orientation …

Regulation Of Borderless High-Technology Economies: Managing Spillover Effects, Steven R. Salbu Apr 2002

Regulation Of Borderless High-Technology Economies: Managing Spillover Effects, Steven R. Salbu

Chicago Journal of International Law

In October of 1998, the European Union Data Privacy Directive ("Directive") became effective. Consistent with Europe's serious approach to consumer privacy, the Directive mandates that Member States adopt the most rigorous privacy legislation the world has seen. The specific requirements of the Directive are complex, and I have discussed them in some detail in another article. Very generally, the Directive places obligations on data collectors and provides rights to data subjects. The most significant of these protections from a global privacy perspective is the Directives "opt-in" approach, which presumes an expectation of data privacy as the default position, and (with …

Employee Representation In The Boundaryless Workplace, Katherine V.W. Stone Apr 2002

Employee Representation In The Boundaryless Workplace, Katherine V.W. Stone

Chicago-Kent Law Review

In this Article. Stone describes changes in the organization of work that are undermining traditional union practices and patterns of collective bargaining. Many firms have dismantled their internal labor market's job structures, repudiated their former implicit promises of job security, and instead instituted workplace practices that do not depend upon long-term attachment between the employee and the firm. As employers reorganize the workplace to achieve flexibility rather than stability, many features of the labor laws and industrial union practices have become problematic. This Article identifies the ways in which current labor law and traditional union practices are in tension with …

Financial Performance Of Insurance Companies Following Initial Public Offerings, Kulkanya Napompech Apr 2002

Financial Performance Of Insurance Companies Following Initial Public Offerings, Kulkanya Napompech

Doctoral Dissertations

The quality of insurance companies is a very significant societal issue. Policyholders pay premiums assuming indemnity of their potential losses. It is essential that an insurer be able to meet its contractual obligations when a loss occurs. An initial public offering provides an infusion of capital and an expansion of resources available to a firm. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine the financial and operating impacts of initial public offerings during 1980–2000 on insurance companies.

Chapter 2 examines changes in operating performance of property/casualty insurance companies following initial public offerings. I find that following initial public offerings, …

Satisfied Correctional Staff : A Review Of The Literature On The Correlates Of Correctional Staff Job Satisfaction, Eric G. Lambert, Nancy L. Hogan, Shannon M. Barton

Peer Reviewed Publications

During the past decade, there has been increasing pressure on correctional agencies to attract and keep quality staff. Raising worker job satisfaction is seen as a fundamental way of decreasing turnover. There has been a considerable amount of research in the area of the possible causes of correctional staff job satisfaction and, to a lesser extent, the possible consequences of job satisfaction. However, due to the numerous studies, some with conflicting results, it is difficult to understand clearly the factors associated with job satisfaction. A review of the literature is presented to provide a better understanding of correctional staff job …

Organizational Alignment: A Tool For Obtaining Greater Organizational Efficiency And Effectiveness In A State Government Agency, Patricia A. Collins Apr 2002

Organizational Alignment: A Tool For Obtaining Greater Organizational Efficiency And Effectiveness In A State Government Agency, Patricia A. Collins

Dissertations

This study focuses on the modem day use of TQM, reengineering and privatization initiatives to gain efficiency and effectiveness in government operations, and the impact of alignment on the successful implementation of these three initiatives. A large state government agency which is currently using TQM, reengineering and privatization was used as a case study. Two-hundred-and-twenty-four employees were voluntary participants. This study examined three research questions: 1. Could the level of alignment, as hypothesized by Labovitz and Rosansky, be replicated with a sample of public agency employees? 2. Is the agency aligned, based on the Labovitz and Rosansky model, to successfully …

The Challenges Associated With Change In 4-H/Youth Development, Renee K. Mckee, B Allen Talbert, Susan J. Barkman

Journal of Extension

This article discusses a study documenting the beliefs about proactive change among volunteers and Extension staff who develop policy for local Indiana 4-H Programs. Data analysis indicated that volunteers believe in the core values of the 4-H Program; recommend that the 4-H Program should reach more and different youth; and believe that the program's rural image inhibits progress in these areas. Staff interactions with volunteers, lack of parental involvement, policy-making group organization and structure, and youth representation were cited as barriers to a more open, inclusive organization. The article makes recommendations based on the study's findings and suggests topics for …
