From Neologisms To Social Practice: An Analysis Of The Wanding Of America, Loukia K. Sarroub
Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education: Faculty Publications
In this article I discuss how individuals and communities in the United States re-present themselves in the context of the September 11 tragedy and its complex aftermath. My aim is to explore the "American" discourse on inclusion and discrimination by examining the neologisms and social practices that were amplified by the attack in local and national debates.

Vertebral Pathologies In Skeletons Of Alaskan Eskimos From Golovin Bay And Nunivak Island, Scott Stephen Legge
Anthropology
The primary objectives of this dissertation are to analyze vertebral pathologies by comparing two Native Alaskan skeletal collections, and assessing these results in terms of the patterning of genetically controlled versus activity related lesions. Skeletal collections housed at the Smithsonian Institution were requested for repatriation by the residents of Golovin Bay and Nunivak Island in 1993 and 1994, respectively. Prior to reburial, the remains were analyzed utilizing the Smithsonian Protocol of Skeletal Analysis (Urcid and Byrd, 1995) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Vertebral anomalies and pathologies observed in this study include spondylolysis, spina bifida occulta, Schmorl's nodes, osteoarthritis, transitional …

Community-Based Lexicography, Kathy R. Sikorski
Working Papers Series
The topic of lexicography generates interesting and diverse opinions and emotions about languages, not only within academics but also among the very people whose heritage languages are being preserved, or in some cases, revitalized. Some speakers and learners of heritage languages do not relate to linguistic terms found in academic works, but at the same time, junior dictionaries do not contain enough linguistic information to satisfy the academics. Can these issues be resolved?

The Possibility Of Reform: Micropolitics In Higher Education, Susan Haag, Mary Lee Smith
Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)
The purpose of this case study was to examine the restructuring of an institution of higher education's teacher preparation program and to assess the possibility for systemic reform. Although teacher education represents a vital link in not only the educational system but in curricular reform, the increased expectations for educational reform made this institution unavoidably more political. ...
