Brick Oven Restaurant was established in 1956 as one of Provo's first pizza parlors, named "Heaps a Pizza." In those days, pizza was a new food and most people had never eaten it. After being an employee since 1958, Glee Zumbrennen purchased the restaurant in 1962. The dining room consisted of folding chairs and a few booths that sat about 75 people. The business continued to grow, and the folding chairs and benches gave way to upholstered booths. Pizza was becoming more popular and Heaps was developing a wide reputation for its delicious pizza. The Vindication Of Hate Violence Victims Via Criminal And Civil Adjudications, Brian Levin

Journal of Hate Studies

Attempts by victims of hate violence to vindicate their claims through civil courts have a long history in the United States that predates the Civil War. The most notorious Supreme Court decision in American history commenced auspiciously in a St. Louis, Missouri county circuit court in two racially based tort actions on April 6, 1846. Slaves Dred and Harriet Scott petitioned Judge John Crum for permission to sue their owner and for “reasonable liberty” to effectively pursue their case. In an action remarkable for its time, Judge Crum granted the motions and stipulated that neither slave be removed from the …

This qualitative study investigates the relationship between the two constructs: Organizational Climate and Organizational Commitment.

Litwin and Stringer (1968) suggested that a molar model is needed to explain employee behavior and motivation. Climate was proposed as this molar construct. Research concerning Organizational Climate resulted in multiple definitions and little consensus concerning the number and use of multiple dimensions of this construct. The almost exclusive use of survey methods coupled with methodological confusion with Organizational Culture created difficulty with the use of this important construct.

The purpose of this study was to provide basic descriptive information regarding a peer mediation program at a rural middle school in Iowa. Students' familiarity and perceptions of the peer mediation program were assessed. The findings indicated that students were aware of the Peacemaking program. However, students also suggested that the school could do a better job providing information about the program. The data also indicated that the majority of students believed that peacemaking was effective and reported that the peacemakers were neutral and confidential. Emergence And Mortality Of Native Prairie Forbs Seeded Into An Established Stand Of Grasses, Dave Williams

Thousands of hectares of warm-season grass plantings in Iowa have few to no native forbs. Diversifying these species poor plant communities with native prairie forbs could result in increased resistance to climatic extremes, increased biodiversity, reduced noxious "weedy" plant invasion, and reduced geographic isolation between existing native prairie remnants.

I hypothesized that frequent mowing in the first one or two years after broadcasting forb seed into an established stand of warm-season grasses can increase forb emergence and reduce forb mortality. I further hypothesized that fall seeded forbs would establish better that those seeded in spring.
