Prioritizing Test Cases For Regression Testing, Gregg Rothermel, Roland H. Untch, Chengyun Chu, Mary Jean Harrold Oct 2001

Prioritizing Test Cases For Regression Testing, Gregg Rothermel, Roland H. Untch, Chengyun Chu, Mary Jean Harrold

School of Computing: Faculty Publications

Test case prioritization techniques schedule test cases for execution in an order that attempts to increase their effectiveness at meeting some performance goal. Various goals are possible; one involves rate of fault detection - a measure of how quickly faults are detected within the testing process. An improved rate of fault detection during testing can provide faster feedback on the system under test and let software engineers begin correcting faults earlier than might otherwise be possible. One application of prioritization techniques involves regression testing - the retesting of software following modifications; in this context, prioritization techniques can take advantage of …

Characteristics And Sequence Of Phosphoglycolate Phosphatase From A Eukaryotic Green Alga Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii, Tarlan G. Mamedov, Kensaku Suzuki, Kenji Miura, Ken-Ichi Kucho, Hideya Fukuzawa Oct 2001

Characteristics And Sequence Of Phosphoglycolate Phosphatase From A Eukaryotic Green Alga Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii, Tarlan G. Mamedov, Kensaku Suzuki, Kenji Miura, Ken-Ichi Kucho, Hideya Fukuzawa

Papers in Biochemical Engineering

Phosphoglycolate phosphatase (PGPase), a key en¬zyme of photorespiration in photosynthetic organisms, was purified from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. The en¬zyme was an ~65-kDa homodimer with a pI value of 5.1 composed of ~32-kDa subunits not connected by any S–S bridges. It was also highly specific for phosphoglycolate with a Km value of 140 μM and an optimal pH between 8 and 9. The activity was strongly inhibited by CaCl2, and it recovered competitively following the addition of MgCl2 or EGTA. A mobility shift was observed in SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis by the addition of CaCl2, indicating that the enzyme binds to Ca2+ . …

Gamma-Ray Line Emission From Superbubblesin The Interstellar Medium: The Cygnus Region, S. Plüschke, R. Diehl, K. Kretschmer, Dieter H. Hartmann, U. Oberlack

The star forming process in the Milky Way is non-uniform in time and space. The scale of star forming regions ranges from groups within a few pc to large segments of spiral arms with linear dimension of order kpc. When many stars form in a relatively small volume over a short duration, a localized starburst ensues. The energetic impact of such a burst of star formation can severely affect the dynamic structure of the gaseous disk. Stellar winds and supernova explosions drive an expanding superbubble, whose size eventually exceeds the scale height of the disk and thus drives a disk-wind …

Contributions Of Grbs And Cen A-Like Radiogalaxies To The Cosmic Gamma-Ray Background, K. Watanabe, Dieter H. Hartmann Oct 2001

Contributions Of Grbs And Cen A-Like Radiogalaxies To The Cosmic Gamma-Ray Background, K. Watanabe, Dieter H. Hartmann

Publications

The contribution to the cosmic diffuse gamma-ray background (CGB) from Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) is studied in the 40 keV - 2 MeV regime. We use High Energy Resolution (HER) data from the Burst And Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) aboard the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) to generate a GRB template spectrum. Although the GRB contribution to the CGB is generally small, in comparison to the dominant flux from Type Ia supernovae, the integrated GRB flux is in fact comparable to that from SNIa in the narrow 10-40 keV range. GRBs contribute to the CGB at the same level as Type …

Educational Performance And Charter School Authorizers: The Accountability Bind, Katrina Bulkley Oct 2001

Educational Performance And Charter School Authorizers: The Accountability Bind, Katrina Bulkley

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

... Here, I focus on one central component of accountability to government: performance accountability or accountability for educational outcomes to charter school authorizers through the revocation or non-renewal of charter contracts. In this paper, I suggest that contract-based accountability for educational performance in charter schools may not be working as proponents argued it would. ...

The State Of Minority-Owned Nebraska Businesses, Charles Lamphear Oct 2001

The State Of Minority-Owned Nebraska Businesses, Charles Lamphear

Business in Nebraska

The latest Nebraska statistics on minority·owned businesses show that minorities owned 4,678 firms, em· ployed 8,558 workers, paid out $140 million in payroll, and contributed $516 million in gross revenues to the state's economy in 1997. Minority-owned businesses are those owned by African Americans, Hispanics, Asians/Pacific Islanders, or American Indians/Alaska Natives. Minorityowned businesses primarily were concentrated in a few counties, especially in the stale's urban counties (Figure 1).

The number of minority·owned businesses in Ne· braska grew by 48 percent during the 1992-1997 period, which was more than four times faster than the growth in the total number of nonfarm …

Poor Water Resources And Drought In The Gujarat/Saurashtra Regions Of India, K. K. Nathan Oct 2001

Poor Water Resources And Drought In The Gujarat/Saurashtra Regions Of India, K. K. Nathan

Drought Network News (1994–2001)

Inadequate water resources pose a big threat to the economy, human activities, and livelihood in the Gujarat/Saurashtra regions of India. Scanty rainfall with wide aberrations in its distribution has made the situation worse, leading to chronic drought in the state in 2001. With the exception of the Narmada and Tapi rivers, there are hardly any water resources to sustain agricultural production in the region. The gradual disappearance of forest cover in the state has further aggravated the drought situation. This has led to large-scale erosion of the topsoil, particularly near the riverside. There is apprehension that the region will soon …

Creating A Network Of Regional Drought Preparedness Networks: A Call For Action, Donald A. Wilhite Oct 2001

Creating A Network Of Regional Drought Preparedness Networks: A Call For Action, Donald A. Wilhite

Drought Network News (1994–2001)

Drought is a creeping, slow-onset natural hazard that is a normal part of climate for virtually all regions of the world; it results in serious economic, social, and environmental impacts. Its onset and end are often difficult to determine, as is its severity. Drought affects more people than any other natural hazard. Lessons from developed and developing countries demonstrate that drought results in significant impacts, regardless of level of development, although the character of these impacts will differ profoundly. At the Meeting on Opportunities for Sustainable Investment in Rainfed Areas of West Asia and North Africa (WANA), held in June …

An Ethnographic Study Of Participants' Perceptions Of Character Education Including Students, Parents, Teachers, Club Sponsors, Administrators, And Community Support People, Lily Odessa Hogan Stoppleworth

Doctoral Dissertations

This qualitative study examined character education within one educational setting. The researcher created a holistic, narrative description of the extent, quality, and impact of character education at one North Louisiana high school. An emergent design was utilized to examine inductively participants' perceptions of character education initiatives within this single, educational site.

The research questions in this study were: (a) How do participants (students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members) define character education, and what do they perceive its value to be? (b) How do participants perceive character education in relation to values? (c) How is character education viewed by the …

Selecting English Language Learners For Reading Recovery, Salli Forbes

Curriculum & Instruction Faculty Publications

The Standards and Guidelines of the Reading Recovery Council of North America (1998) clearly explains the rationale for selection of children for Reading Recovery with a quote from Marie Clay. "Reading Recovery is designed for children who are the lowest achievers in the class/age group. What is used is an inclusive definition. Principals have sometimes argued to exclude this or that category of children or to save places for children who might seem to “benefit the most,” but that is not using the full power of the program. It has been one of the surprises of Reading Recovery that all …

Interval Mathematics: Algebraic Aspects, Sompong Dhompongsa, Vladik Kreinovich, Hung T. Nguyen Oct 2001

Interval Mathematics: Algebraic Aspects, Sompong Dhompongsa, Vladik Kreinovich, Hung T. Nguyen

Departmental Technical Reports (CS)

Many application-oriented mathematical models deal with real numbers. In real life, due to the inevitable measurement inaccuracy, we do not know the exact values of the measured quantities, we know, at best, the intervals of possible values. It is thus desirable to analyze how the corresponding mathematical results will look if we replace numbers by intervals.
