Effect Of Water Temperature On Growth Of Hatchery Reared Black Sea Turbot, Scophthalmus Maximus (Linnaeus, 1758), Temel Şahi̇n
Turkish Journal of Zoology
A rearing experiment was carried out to examine the effect of water temperature on the growth of the Black Sea turbot, Scophthalmus maximus, at ambient temperature (mean 15.2±0.6°C), 18, 20, 22 and 24°C with fish of 34.4±9.9 g initial body weight. The experiment lasted 30 days and the fish were fed to satiation three times a day with a commercial pelleted diet. Survival rates starting with the control group were 100, 83.4, 68.4, 3.4, and 1.7%, respectively. Although the mean weights of the groups were very similar at the beginning of the experiment, they had become markedly varied by the …

The Herpetofauna Of The Vicinity Of Silifke, İbrahi̇m Baran, Yusuf Kumlutaş, Kurtuluş Olgun, Çeti̇n Ilgaz, Yakup Kaska
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The number of herpetological studies about specific regions of Turkey are very limited compared to general herpetological studies. In an attempt to help fill this gap, a total of 89 specimens representing 11 reptile species were collected, for the first time, from two different localities in the vicinity of Silifke, and they were evaluated from the taxonomical point of view.

Turkish Journal of Zoology
The Anomurans of the Aegean coasts of Turkey were studied between 1987 and 1997, in the region from the Gulf of Saros in the north to Marmaris in south at 17 stations; the 811 specimens obtained were identified as belonging to 28 species. Moreover, all of the early studies were reviewed on the Anomuran fauna of Turkish coasts and it was determined that 3 _species were reported from the Black Sea coasts of Turkey, 20 species from the Sea of Marmara, 27 species from the Aegean coasts of Turkey and 17 species from the Turkish coasts of the Mediterranean Sea. …
Design, Construction And Testing Of A Portable Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry System For Contouring Applications, Tara J. Kneafsey
Design, Construction And Testing Of A Portable Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry System For Contouring Applications, Tara J. Kneafsey

Optical surface metrology techniques offer many advantages over conventional methods. Some of these advantages include a greater sensitivity and a whole field analysis that is non-contract. They also offer greater lateral and vertical resolution and are not subject to electromagnetic influence. Despite these many advantages, there has been reluctance in industry to adopt these techniques. This reluctance can be attributed to the use of high-power lasers which are considered dangerous, the expense of the systems and complicated operation and analysis procedures. The objective of the research described in this thesis was to utilise recent developments in laser diodes, data acquisition …
Chemical Characterisations Of Drug Stability, Gregory Lee
Chemical Characterisations Of Drug Stability, Gregory Lee
Masters
The objective of the initial stages of this project was to develop a method for the separation of morphine sulphate and haloperidol using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The HPLC methods were then validated. The validation parameters investigated were: accuracy, precision, linearity, specificity, system suitability, robustness, range. Method validation was carried out at the method development stage and throughout the project. Having successfully developed and validated the HPLC method for the separation of morphine sulphate and haloperidol it was then possible to continue to the next objective of the project i.e. to assess the chemical stability of the following: 1 …

Wellington’S Labors, Michael H. Gottesman
Wellington’S Labors, Michael H. Gottesman
Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works
My first class as a student at Yale Law School was the first class Harry Wellington taught there. It was the Fall of 1956. The course was Contracts. Harry entered the classroom, looking no older than the students (in truth, he 'wasn't much older), but surely better dressed. He settled himself on the corner of the desk, and the magic began. Without introduction or fanfare, Harry embarked on a monologue about a magazine that kept arriving, uninvited, in his mailbox each month. He confessed to leafing through the pages from time to time, and wondered if this obligated him to …

Japanese Intellectual Property Law In Translation: Representative Cases And Commentary, Kenneth L. Port
Japanese Intellectual Property Law In Translation: Representative Cases And Commentary, Kenneth L. Port
Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law
Like much of Japanese law, Japanese intellectual property law is often criticized as being inaccessible. This inaccessibility has contributed to the misperception that Japanese case law regarding intellectual property does not exist. Even if it exists, the perception goes, it takes forever to track down and it is nearly irrelevant.
This Commentary, in a very modest way, is aimed at debunking the myth that Japanese case law regarding intellectual property is either non-existent or less meaningful than its U.S. counterpart. This Commentary consists of five translations of recent, significant intellectual property cases, as well as commentary regarding the relevance and …
Interpreting Intervention, Craig Scott
Interpreting Intervention, Craig Scott
Articles & Book Chapters
The present article, written in May 2001, discusses the significance for the doctrine of humanitarian intervention of the normative signaling practices that transpired throughout the 1990s with respect to the use of military force outside of explicit authorization by UN Security Council resolutions. The first part of the article analyses the sociological and legal-theoretical dimensions of the relationship between interpretation of Security Council resolutions and the interpretive evolution of the UN Charter. Iraq and Kosovo then provide the focus for contextualizing the analysis. The article ends with an account of the interplay of the powers of the General Assembly and …
What Is Marriage-Like Like? The Irrelevance Of Conjugality, Brenda Cossman, Bruce Ryder
What Is Marriage-Like Like? The Irrelevance Of Conjugality, Brenda Cossman, Bruce Ryder
Articles & Book Chapters
While the notion of conjugal or marriage-like has become legally ubiquitous in the regulation of non-marital cohabitation in Canada, its meaning remains elusive. A review of the case law and of spousal definitions in income security schemes reveals that the presence or absence of a sexual component to a relationship has become immaterial to, or of declining relevance in, the determination of conjugality. As a result, legal decision-makers have had to grapple with the increasing instability of the distinction between conjugal and non-conjugal relationships. The question of whether a relationship has a sexual component bears no relation to legitimate state …
Prospects For Chiral Nonlinear Optical Media, Rolfe G. Petschek, Kenneth D. Singer
Prospects For Chiral Nonlinear Optical Media, Rolfe G. Petschek, Kenneth D. Singer
Faculty Scholarship
This paper describes the development and optimization of chiral, nonpolar media with large second-order nonlinear optical responses. We employ molecular engineering, quantum-mechanical sum-over-states theory, and measurements of molecular hyperpolarizability by means of Kleinman-disallowed hyper-Rayleigh scattering in order to understand molecular properties. Then we analyze the appropriate arrangement of the chromophores that produce an optimum axial nonlinear optical medium. Chromophores with large Kleinman disallowed traceless symmetric second-rank tensor hyperpolarizabilities /spl beta/ can be aligned so as to result in large susceptibilities /spl chi//sup (2)/ in structures that lack polar order. We found that /spl Lambda/-shaped chromophores with C/sub 2v/ or similar …

Re-Interpreting The Effect Of Rights: Career Narratives And The Americans With Disabilities Act, David Engel, Frank W. Munger
Articles & Chapters
This article examines how the employment rights guaranteed by the Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA) affect the careers of individuals with disabilities. The
article draws on in-depth interviews with sixty adults who provided extended life
story narratives, describing early family and educational experiences and later
experiences with employment. Their detailed accounts offer insights into the
sometimes subtle role rights play in peoples lives and careers. Relatively few
rights violations actually lead to explicit or formal invocations of the law. The
effect of the ADA on careers can be profound but is primarily indirect or
symbolic. Moreover, other factors affect the …
