Biennialism And Vernalization-Promoted Flowering In Hyoscyamus Niger: A Comparison With Arabidopsis, Michael Schläppi, Monica Patel

There are genetic similarities between the biennial growth habit of Hyoscyamus niger (H. niger) and winter annual ecotypes of Arabidopsis thaliana, including the response to demethylating agents. One focus of our research group at Marquette is to determine whether FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC) homologs or FLC-related MADS-box genes are involved in biennialism of H. niger. This review also summarizes our initial characterization of expression profiles of 4 groups of H. niger MADS-box genes. The history of student housing at the University of Mississippi is one of endless challenges. Ranging from periodic room shortages to declining institutional concern for the needs of student housing, these challenges have shaped the lives of students who live on campus through today. Though these challenges have varied in source and nature over the years, they still confront administrators, faculty, staff, and most of all students, many of whom address these issues on a daily basis. The First Circuit reversed the district court's order dismissing Lucas Rosa's claim against Park West Bank. The appeals court's reversal seems to be part of an emerging nationwide rejection of cases from the 1970s and 1980s. In these cases courts summarily dismissed sex discrimination claims brought by transgender plaintiffs, no matter how squarely the facts appeared to present a clear-cut case of discrimination based on sex. This created that appeared to be a "transgender" exception to sex discrimination law. Little is known about incidence, risk factors, and etiology of acute lower respiratory tract infection (ALRI) and pneumonia among the very young children from the rural communities of the developing countries. This study examined incidence and risk factors for ALRI and etiology and risk factors for pneumonia in a group of infants in Bangladesh. A cohort of 252 newborns was prospectively followed from birth to 24 months of age. Data on respiratory symptoms and feeding habits were collected routinely by household visit. Objectives . This population-based study was conducted to examine the effects of various technologies, that evolved in the late 1980s and early 1990s to improve infant survival, on time to death. The study examined the temporal variations in time to infant death from perinatal related causes, at varying birth weights and for two races, between 1985 and 1995, and considered the implications of the findings for future perinatal policy and interventions. Much has been written about theory and practice in the law, and the tension between practitioners and theorists. Judges do not cite theoretical articles often; they rarely "apply" theories to particular cases. These arguments are not revisited. Instead the Essay explores the working and interaction of theory and practice, practitioners and theorists.

Many states fail to conduct, or even to permit, DNA testing of biological materials in circumstances in which the results might exonerate convicts under sentence of death. Senator Patrick Leahy thinks that Congress should enact a statute requiring states to provide for testing when it promises to reveal the truth. Leahy's idea is sensible as a matter of policy. I mean in this Article to argue that it is also constitutionally feasible.

A Preliminary Assessment Of Tidal Flooding Along The New Hampshire Coast: Past, Present And Future, Larry G. Ward, Jamie R. Adams

This report presents the results of a preliminary study that examines several critical coastal issues for New Hampshire including sea level fluctuations (past, present and future), shoreline migrations, and tidal flooding. Included are: 1) an analysis of sea level changes over the Holocene and resulting shoreline migrations, 2) an assessment of low-lying areas with elevations below selected tidal flooding datums in coastal areas, and 3) an assessment of increases in low-lying areas that are potentially at risk to tidal flooding over the next century due to sea level rise.

Clinical trials, in which new biotech and other medical products are tested on human subjects, provide much of the data used by the FDA to determine whether the products are suitable for routine use in health care. Thus, the trials are of obvious importance to medical progress and improvement of public health, and to those who have career and financial interests at stake. The legal focal point of familial obligation in the United States has long been the relationship between paired adults-most centrally marriage. Obligations to children, and rights to their company, were derivative; they were to be met through the framework of the all-important pairing of adults. Over the past several decades, that core source of legal obligation has shifted from the adult relationship between partners to the relationship between parent and child.
