Truncated Forms Of The Dual Function Human Asct2 Neutral Amino Acid Transporter/Retroviral Receptor Are Translationally Initiated At Multiple Alternative Cug And Gug Codons, Chetankumar S. Tailor, Mariana Marin, Ali Nouri, Michael Kavanaugh, David Kabat

The sodium-dependent neutral amino acid transporter type 2 (ASCT2) was recently identified as a cell surface receptor for endogenously inherited retroviruses of cats, baboons, and humans as well as for horizontally transmitted type-D simian retroviruses. By functional cloning, we obtained 10 full-length 2.9-kilobase pair (kbp) cDNAs and two smaller identical 2.1-kbp cDNAs that conferred susceptibility to these viruses. Compared with the 2.9-kbp cDNA, the 2.1-kbp cDNA contains exonic deletions in its 3′ noncoding region and a 627-bp 5′ truncation that eliminates sequences encoding the amino-terminal portion of the full-length ASCT2 protein. It is well known that only a special class of bandpass signals, called real-zero (RZ) signals can be uniquely represented (up to a scale factor) by their zero crossings, i.e., the time instants at which the signals change their sign. However, it is possible to invertibly map arbitrary bandpass signals into RZ signals, thereby, implicitly represent the bandpass signal using the mapped RZ signal’s zero crossings. This mapping is known as real-zero conversion (RZC). In this paper a class of novel signal-adaptive RZC algorithms is proposed. An early step in repair of the leech CNS is the appearance of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) immunoreactivity and NOS activity, but coincident generation of NO at the lesion after injury has not been shown. This is important because NO can regulate microglial cell motility and axon growth. Indirect measurement of NO with the standard citrulline assay demonstrated that NO was generated within 30 min after nerve cord injury. A polarographic NO-selective self-referencing microelectrode that measures NO flux noninvasively was developed to obtain higher spatial and temporal resolution. Environmental Determinants Of Cost Sharing--An Application To Irrigation, David Aadland, Van Kolpin

Economic Research Institute Study Papers

Multiple-cost sharing rules often coexist in seemingly identical environments. We use shared irrigation costs as a context for examining the extent to which the structural environment explains the selection of a cost sharing rule. We find that environmental factors that-induce greater dependence on the cooperation of others, influence majority interests, create difficulties for interpersonal utility comparisons, or impact notions of "faimess"-all have impressive explanatory power. These results present the first formal empirical analysis of the manner in which structural features influence the actual cost-sharing choices of economic agents.

We developed a dynamic integrated modeling approach to identify the effect of global warming on the global timber market. The Timber Supply Model 2000, BlOME 3, and Hamburg were used as a suitable economic and ecological model. The TSM 2000 was adopted to model dynamic economic behavior in the global timber market. BlOME 3 was utilized as our steady state ecological model, and Hamburg as our general circulation model. The TSM 200 was developed to consider more important up-to-date components in the global timber market.
