A Motion-Analysis And Electromyographic Study Of The Upper Trapeziues And Forearm Musculature While Typing At Different Heights On A Laptop Computer, Scott Kolar

Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects

Laptop computers have become a common feature in both the workplace and the home. Computer technology has brought about vast benefits in terms of productivity and efficiency; however, the benefits have not come without repercussions. The wide use of laptop computers has without a doubt created an environment in which the user is susceptible to upper extremity cumulative trauma disorder (UECTD), also referred to as repetitive trauma disorder or overuse syndrome. The cost of UECTD to the individual and potentially his/her employer is enormous costing the United States alone an estimated $42 billion per year. Through ergonomic considerations, an optimal …

A Review Of The Process Of Accessing Services For Children With Special Health Care Needs In North Dakota, Jana Schmidt

Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects

It has been a concern of the Family Advisory Council of Children's Special Health Services, Bismarck, North Dakota, that many families experienced difficulties when trying to access information for medical, financial, educational, and family services for their children with special health care needs. The family members on this advisory board found the process of accessing services confusing and time consuming, and indicated that families were also unclear as to where to begin the process. An abundance of information provided at the time of their child's diagnosis made it difficult for families to make informed decisions about the most important and …

Multicultural Art Education: Deconstructing Images Of Social Reproduction, Donna Alden Jan 2001

Multicultural Art Education: Deconstructing Images Of Social Reproduction, Donna Alden

Journal of Social Theory in Art Education

Exclusionary practices along with inaccurate and incomplete information have historically been used in the classroom by the dominant White culture as a means to disempower minority youth and widen the chasm between opposite ends of the power structure. Although reproducing the existing power structure may not be a conscious motive of art teachers in the 21st century, many of their actions replicate conditions necessary for domination by the Euro-White culture. Admirably, art educators have a history of being on the cutting edge of innovative ideas and inclusionary practices. The movement to include art from many cultures in art curriculums is …

College Choice: An Analysis Of The Factors That Influence A Student's Decision To Enroll In A Two-Year College, Timothy S. Stokes Jan 2001

College Choice: An Analysis Of The Factors That Influence A Student's Decision To Enroll In A Two-Year College, Timothy S. Stokes

Theses and Dissertations

As the number of students choosing to begin their postsecondary education in a two-year college increases, a careful analysis of the factors influencing the college choice process is needed. While a significant amount of research has addressed the college choice phenomenon and models describing the process have been developed, no attempt to apply these models to the two-year college choice process has been attempted. This study examines the factors that influence the college choice process of two-year college students and determines the variance these variables have on the two-year/four-year college choice dichotomy. Using the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS) …

Cannabinoids And The Immune System, Thomas W. Klein, Catherine A. Newton, Herman Friedman Jan 2001

Cannabinoids And The Immune System, Thomas W. Klein, Catherine A. Newton, Herman Friedman

Molecular Medicine Faculty Publications

The effect of cannabimimetic agents on the function of immune cells such as T and B lymphocytes, natural killer cells and macrophages has been extensively studied over the past several decades using human and animal paradigms involving whole animal models as well as tissue culture systems. From this work, it can be concluded that these drugs have subtle yet complex effects on immune cell function and that some of the drug activity is mediated by cannabinoid receptors expressed on the various immune cell subtypes. However, the overall role of the cannabinoid system of receptors and ligands in human health and …

End-Of-Life Care In Florida: Should The Law Follow The Lobbyists Or The People's Wishes, Alison Cossetti Jan 2001

End-Of-Life Care In Florida: Should The Law Follow The Lobbyists Or The People's Wishes, Alison Cossetti

St. Thomas Law Review

One of the hottest topics on the minds and lips of many Floridians is end-of-life care. This is understandable since the state of Florida contains the largest percentage of elderly individuals, the third highest amount of people afflicted with the AIDS virus, and the fourth largest number of deaths per year from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart disease in the nation. The Florida Legislature realizes that the state is extremely diverse in the areas of ethnicity, race, cultural customs, and religious beliefs, and believes that a person's experience with death, the process of dying, and their choices pertaining to …

Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations

The purpose of this research project was to study the conceptual understanding achieved in a general chemistry course based on a constructivist approach. A group of 28 students participated in repeated measures obtained by means of conceptual maps about the mole concept prepared three times during the course: at the beginning the course, immediately after the concept was studied, and after studying other related concepts. In addition, eight students selected from the group of 28 were interviewed. The interviews were carried out focusing on their conceptual maps. The analysis of the repeated measures indicated significant differences among the three times, …
