Analysis Of Loratadine By Potentiometry And Reverse-Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Kian Yong Puen Jan 2001

Analysis Of Loratadine By Potentiometry And Reverse-Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Kian Yong Puen

Student Works (2000-2009)

A non-aqueous titration method was developed to assay Loratadine bulk active and a High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method was developed to determine Loratadine's manufacturing impurity. The HPLC method was also suitable for simultaneously assay and related substance determination of Loratadine pharmaceutical preparations. In the tritation method, glacial acetic acid was chosen as an amphiprotic solvent. Loratadine ionised in glacial acetic acid; the conjugated base of acetic acid (Ac·), was then titrated with standardised perchloric acid. The method was validated found to be precise, linear and robust. Reverse-phase HPLC method using a Novapak Cl8 column with a CH3CN: I0mM K2HPO4 …

Local And Systemic Controls On Fish And Fish Habitat In South Dakota Rivers And Streams: Implications For Management, Craig L. Milewski Jan 2001

Local And Systemic Controls On Fish And Fish Habitat In South Dakota Rivers And Streams: Implications For Management, Craig L. Milewski

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Assessments of the health of rivers and streams in prairie environments would improve if the role of systemic patterns and processes among geologic-climatic settings in controlling physical habitat and fish communities were better defined. My research approach was based on a premise that assessments of the health of rivers and streams in prairie environments would benefit from studies that 1) examine the moderating effects of systemic patterns and processes by comparing physical habitat continua and fish communities among geologic-climatic settings, 2) determine the relative influence of locally interacting variables (e .g., channel shape and riparian vegetation) and systemic processes in …

Population Characteristics And Sampling Methods Of Catfish For The James And Big Sioux Rivers, John E. Aterburn Jan 2001

Population Characteristics And Sampling Methods Of Catfish For The James And Big Sioux Rivers, John E. Aterburn

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Concerns about the sustainability of catfish populations that produce large fish have increased because of abundant media images of large catfish and improvements in specialized fishing equipment. This study will help biologists address these concerns by providing important information about the channel catfish lctalurus punctarus and flathead catfish Pylodictis olivaris populations of the James and Big Sioux rivers and by assessing the effectiveness of various gears used to sample catfish. I compared the number of channel catfish and flathead catfish caught on trotlines by riverine habitat type, hook type, and bait type along with electrofishing and different hoop net combinations. …

Integrated Family Centres: Directions For Future Developments, Billy Mccullough, Trevor Spratt, Felicity Hasson

Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies

Two major types of family centre can be identified. The first type aims to support families in the community by offering a range of practical services to alleviate stress. The second type of centre focuses on assessment and therapeutic intervention in families where children are at risk of abuse. In practice, many centres fulfil both functions and can be termed 'integrated centres'. This paper reports on an evaluation of an integrated centre. The evaluation was conducted on three levels: the managerial level, the level of professionals who work in the centre, and on the level of the families who use …

Childcare In Ireland: Themes And Issues, Deirdre Horgan Jan 2001

Childcare In Ireland: Themes And Issues, Deirdre Horgan

Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies

In Ireland the policy has been to view childcare as parent's private responsibility resulting in a dearth of public provision, regulation or support for parents since the foundation of the state. Utilising current literature in the field, this paper discusses the need to develop a flexible and responsive childcare system for all children, with special consideration given to the preventive role of childcare for "at risk" children. The gradual emergence of state responsibility for childcare is explored as is the need that this be informed by parents and the often forgotten key stakeholder - children.

A Review Of Suffer The Little Children By Mary Rafferty And Eoin O'Sullivan (1999) Dublin, New Island Books, Paula Hutchinson

Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies

Paula Hutchinson is a mature student (a student over the age of 23 in the Irish education system) in year one of the National Diploma in Applied Social Studies in Social Care at the Waterford Institute of Technology. One of the 2000 class assignments was to provide a critique of any publication of choice. Paula chose to review the controversial book Suffer Little Children and wrote an excellent paper which, I felt, might serve as encouragement for other students around Ireland (or, indeed, abroad) should they like to consider submissions to journals of this kind. As an editorial board, we …

Research For Change: Young People, Youth Crime And The Use Of Custody On Teesside, Keith Munroe

Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies

This Action Research study was established in 1997 by the Society because of our concerns about the sharp increase in the use of custody for chi ldren and young people aged under 18 in England and Wales since 1992. Teesside was selected as the site for the enquiry because the local Courts have an established pattern of using high levels of custody for juveniles. The research also took place during a period when the Youth Justice Process in England and Wales was being reformed and reorganised via the Crime and Disorder Act (1998). MUltiple methods and sources were used to …
