Drama As A Strategy For The Social Development Of Special Needs Students, Mack Smith

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Today, Special Education or Special Needs Programs continue to be a highly debated subject. Parents, teachers, school officials, and policy-makers grapple with the issue of Special Needs Programs? What qualifies an individual as a special needs student? What types of curriculum will be taught in a Special Needs Program? For the purpose of this research paper, Special Needs Programs are programs implemented for the education of students with psychological or physical disorders. Kathleen Stassen Berger, author of The Developing Person Through Childhood, describes children with special needs as "Children for whom learning new skills and developing friendships are hampered by …

The Use Of Geographic Information Systems In Understanding Invasive Species In The Big Sur Weed Management Area, Marc Mungaray Jan 2001

The Use Of Geographic Information Systems In Understanding Invasive Species In The Big Sur Weed Management Area, Marc Mungaray

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

nvasive species can rapidly and seriously degrade the quality of native vegetation communities by altering natural processes and reducing biodiversity. At the same time, control methods that land managers use can also affect the habitat. Land managers must determine which control method is most effective against the invasive species, while being the least damaging to the ecosystem. It is estimated that some 3,500 to 4,000 invasive species are currently infesting the United States (USFS, 1996). In hopes of preventing the spread of invasive species in the Los Padres National Forest as well as in the surrounding California State Parks of …

Economics V. Equity Ii: The European Experience, Stephen M. Johnson Jan 2001

Economics V. Equity Ii: The European Experience, Stephen M. Johnson

Articles

Lawmakers in the European Union and its member states, like their counterparts in the United States, increasingly are using economic tools to protect the environment while reducing their focus on command and control regulation. The reliance on economic approaches to environmental protection may disproportionately impact low income and minority communities. Although evidence of environmental injustice in Europe is not as strong as in the United States, several recent studies demonstrate that traditional environmental protection measures in Europe have disproportionately funneled pollution to low income communities. Economic-based environmental measures can only exacerbate that trend.

Ecoregions Of Nebraska And Kansas, Robert F. Diffendal Jr. Jan 2001

Ecoregions Of Nebraska And Kansas, Robert F. Diffendal Jr.

Robert F. Diffendal, Jr., Publications

Ecoregions denote areas of general similarity in ecosystems and in the type, quality, and quantity of environmental resources; they are designed to serve as a spatial framework for the research, assessment, management, and monitoring of ecosystems and ecosystem components. Ecoregions are directly applicable to the immediate needs of state agencies, including the development of biological criteria and water quality standards, and the establishment of management goals for nonpoint-source pollution. They are also relevant to integrated ecosystem management, an ultimate goal of most federal and state resource management agencies. The approach used to compile this map is based on the premise …

The current study was designed to examine the relationship between acculturation and SAT exam scores. Participants completed a demographic questionnaire and the African American Acculturation Survey-Revised (AAAS-R; Klonoff & Landrine, 2000). Bivariate correlations were conducted to examine the relationship between African American acculturation and SAT scores and to examine the relationship between AAAS-R subscale scores and …
