Modeling And Characterization Of Electrical Transport In Oxygen Conducting Solid Electrolytes, Igor Kosacki, Vladimir Petrovsky, Harlan U. Anderson Jan 2000

Modeling And Characterization Of Electrical Transport In Oxygen Conducting Solid Electrolytes, Igor Kosacki, Vladimir Petrovsky, Harlan U. Anderson

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

A model for the electrical conductivity in acceptor-doped oxides which involves an association between the acceptor-dopants and oxygen vacancies resulting in donor centers is considered. The model relates the behavior of the electrical conductivity with the temperature, ambient atmosphere and band structure. The predictions of the model are compared to experimental data for ZrO2:16% Y and SrCeO3:5% Yb oxygen conductors and some band structure parameters have been determined.

Microstructure - Property Relationships In Nanocrystalline Oxide Thin Films, I. Kosacki, Harlan U. Anderson Jan 2000

Microstructure - Property Relationships In Nanocrystalline Oxide Thin Films, I. Kosacki, Harlan U. Anderson

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Results of studies of the preparation, structure and physical properties of nanocrystalline CeO2, ZrO2:16%Y (YSZ) and SrCeO 3:5%Yb oxide thin films are presented. A polymeric precursor spin coating technique has been used to obtain dense specimens with stable and uniform microstructure controlled in the grain size range of 1-400 nm. A variety of characterization techniques including X-ray diffraction, impedance spectroscopy, Raman scattering and optical absorption have been used for the evaluation of the microstructure-property relationships. Nanocrystalline specimens are characterized by enhanced electrical conductivity and different stoichiometry compared with microcrystalline materials. A direct comparison has been achieved …

Study Of P53 Gain Of Function Mutations In P53-Null Astrocytes, Sang H. Choi Jan 2000

Study Of P53 Gain Of Function Mutations In P53-Null Astrocytes, Sang H. Choi

Theses and Dissertations

A number of recent studies suggest that expression of mutant p53 with mutations in certain codons show a gain of function and some of the characteristics of an oncoprotein. In order to study gain of function mutation and eliminate the potential of a dominant negative interaction with endogenous wild type p53 protein, p53 knockout mouse astrocytes were used. A retrovirus system was used to introduce mutant p53 genes into these p53-null astrocytes. Immunohistochemical staining and western blot experiments showed the expression of mutant p53 protein in these cells after infection with the mutant p53 retroviruses. Cell growth experiment did not …

Functional Characterization Of Mitogen-Dependent And Self-Perpetuating Nb2 Lymphoma Cell Lines, Charlotte Cockrell Jan 2000

Functional Characterization Of Mitogen-Dependent And Self-Perpetuating Nb2 Lymphoma Cell Lines, Charlotte Cockrell

Theses and Dissertations

This investigation involved the functional characterization of four Nb2 sub lines (Nb2-U- 17, Nb2-l l , SFJCD l , and D5) for their mitogenic and apoptotic responses to DEX ± PRL treatment. Many protein factors have been implicated to be crucial in controlling the apoptotic and mitogenic pathways. In conjunction with functional studies, an immunocytochemical investigation of four protein signals (NFKB, IKBa, STAT 5b, and the GR) was undertaken in an attempt to establish a relationship between the functional responsiveness of a given cell line and the concentration of a particular protein marker. Comparison of the functional data obtained for …
