Influence Of Selected Demographic Variables On Work Addiction In Municipal Recreation And Parks Professionals, Christopher M. Nunes
Visions in Leisure and Business
The primary purpose of this study was to assess the degree of work addiction in municipal recreation and park professionals and to identify demographic variables associated with work addiction. The demographic variables used in this study were: gender, work experience, education level and presence of children. There were no significant differences between any of the demographic variables.
The results indicate that the majority (51.8%) of municipal recreation and parks professionals scored in the non-work addicted category; however, 48.15 of the participants scored in either the mildly (34.1%) or highly (14%) work addicted category. The overall mean for this study was …

An Accelerated Learning Curve: Understanding The Benefits Of Motorsports Within Academic Disciplines, Mark D. Howell
Visions in Leisure and Business
This article examines the growing need for college and university programs focusing on the motorsports industry. Many institutions fight against the age-old academic debate between classical or "high" culture and popular or "low" culture. Since motorsports affect large, general audiences, they are traditionally deemed "low" culture. As this article states, however, the need for college-educated engineers, designers, and business people in the rapidly expanding motorsports industry is slowly pushing automobile racing into the arena of an established and necessary academic discipline. The benefit of such a discipline is that graduates are successful in finding jobs with many of the biggest …
Typology Of Motor Sports Museum And Library Research Resources, Thomas C. Siebenaler, David L. Groves
Typology Of Motor Sports Museum And Library Research Resources, Thomas C. Siebenaler, David L. Groves
Visions in Leisure and Business
Museums and libraries are the foundation of effective research. There is fragmentation and disorganization in the world of motor sports among those who have an interest in its history. In motor sports the past is the tradition of the future. There needs to be a typology that will help to organize motor sports research resources to make the task of locating information simpler. The purpose of this manuscript was to develop such a typology.

Cancer in Louisiana
The Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) is pleased to present Cancer in Louisiana, Volume 11, which provides statewide statistics on cancer incidence and mortality for the years 1991 through 1995. This monograph is the fruition of the considerable effort and contributions of staff from the LTR central office, regional registries, hospital registries and other reporting facilities throughout Louisiana. Waste Assessment Of Agricultural Chemicals, Petroleum Products And Maintenance Residuals On Farmsteads, Sherman D. Reed, Robert D. Grisso, Wayne E. Woldt, Shirley M. Niemeyer
Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications
The purpose of this study was to evaluate waste management practices of purchasing, handling, storage, and disposal of agricultural chemicals, petroleum products, and maintenance residuals. One-hundred surveys were returned by agricultural producers from three Nebraska counties selected based on unique environmental and waste management issues. Twenty-four questions concerning agricultural chemicals and 16 questions directed to petroleum products and maintenance residuals are discussed. A follow-up interview with 45 respondents was conducted “on-site” to gain insight into their reported practices, perceptions, and actual practices. Most farmers (66%) tended to purchase pesticides in 3.8 to 10 L (1-2.5 gal) containers and most (79%) …

Software As Discourse: The Power Of Intellectual Property In Digital Architecture, Brian F. Fitzgerald
Software As Discourse: The Power Of Intellectual Property In Digital Architecture, Brian F. Fitzgerald
Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal
As software increasingly facilitates our living, we are drawn more and more to conceptualize software as discourse. While this may sound trite, it is a fundamental point to appreciate.
One of the most significant intellectual developments of the latter part of the twentieth century has been the poststrucoturalist writing of thinkers like Foucault, Derrida, and Baudril-lard, who explain the multitude of power relationships we experience in our daily lives, the indeterminacy of law, the construction of meaning, and the role of language, or discourse, in the construction of meaning and identity. According to the post-structuralists, we live in an environment …

Minotaur Or The King’S Bull. By Jonathon Ward. Urban Youth Theater, Henry Street Settlement Abrons Arts Center, New York. 23 July 1999 (Performance Review), Patricia Herrera
Theatre and Dance Faculty Publications
The production of Minotaur was not only a reinterpretation of an ancient Greek myth, but an opportunity for Latino hip-hop artists to pass down a cultural tradition to the next generation. Latino artists situated hip-hop as a social movement, and the teen performers physically embodied this in the songs and dance. In this way, the Athenian rebellion became the breaking of stereotypes often associated with urban youths. The performers beautifully portrayed this act of resistance when Theseus took Minos’ golden crown, wore it, and passed it down for all the Athenians to wear.
