Upper White River Bmp Implementation Project (Nps Final Report), Paul F. Vendrell, K. F. Steele, M. A. Nelson, R. W. Mcnew
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
The project objective was to monitor agricultural best management practices implemented to minimize sediment, nutrient, and bacterial impact on water quality of the Upper White River watershed. The project targeted the primary agricultural causes of non-point source nutrient and bacterial pollution in three sub-basins of the White River in the Beaver Lake Watershed. Areas with high animal densities targeted high source areas. High source areas were treated with best management practices (BMP) in an effort to reduce the impact to the White River and Beaver Lake. The predominant BMP implemented was waste management, a component of the farm nutrient management …

Nonlinear Effects Of Physisorption On Static Friction, G.T. Gao, Xiao Cheng Zeng, Dennis J. Diestler
Nonlinear Effects Of Physisorption On Static Friction, G.T. Gao, Xiao Cheng Zeng, Dennis J. Diestler
Xiao Cheng Zeng Publications
The effects of a physisorbed film on the force of static friction in a model contact (monatomic adsorbate confined between plane-parallel walls) were investigated by Monte Carlo simulation. At fixed coverage the friction curve (shear yield stress vs normal stress) exhibits a marked nonlinearity, which results from a competition between adsorbate–wall interactions that predominate at low loads and wall–wall interactions that set in beyond a threshold load, which increases with coverage. Previous proximal-probe and computer experiments, carried out at high coverages, see only the initial (low-load) linear portion of the friction curve.

High-Performance Liquid Chromatographic Separation Of Enantiomers Of Synthetic Amino Acids On A Ristocetin A Chiral Stationary Phase, Antal Péter, Gabriella Török, Daniel W. Armstrong, Géza Tóth, Dirk Tourwé
Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works
A macrocyclic glycopeptide, ristocetin A, was used as chiral stationary phase for the high-performance liquid chromatographic separation of enantiomers of 28 unnatural amino acids, such as analogues of phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan, and analogues containing 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline, tetraline or 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-carboline skeletons. Excellent resolutions were achieved for most of the investigated compounds by using reversed-phase or a new polar-organic mobile phase system. The conditions of separation were optimized by variation of the mobile phase composition, temperature and flowrate. Copyright (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.

Comparing A Hyperspectral Monte-Carlo Approach For Simulating Water Surface Reflectance Signatures Based Upon Radiative Transfer Theory: Simulating Clear Water & Caribbean Sea Bottom Types, Charles R. Bostater Jr., Manuel Gimond, Matthew Campbell
Comparing A Hyperspectral Monte-Carlo Approach For Simulating Water Surface Reflectance Signatures Based Upon Radiative Transfer Theory: Simulating Clear Water & Caribbean Sea Bottom Types, Charles R. Bostater Jr., Manuel Gimond, Matthew Campbell
Ocean Engineering and Marine Sciences Faculty Publications
A homogeneous water column hyperspectral Monte Carlo modeling approach is compared to an analytical solution to a radiative transfer model system for irradiance. Both mathematical models and the solution approaches describe the transfer of irradiant light in a homogeneous medium. The analytical model has been previously used to describe the transfer of irradiant energy in a homogenous water column, with and without fluorescence source terms as well as a direct specular or a collimated irradiance source term. The response of the water surface reflectance under solar irradiance or an artificial collimated light source is thus modeled. Synthetic reflectance signatures generated …
Numerical Simulation Of The Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer Flow Over The Cape Canaveral Region And Gulf Stream Using Avhrr Sst – An Atmospheric Seabreeze Model, Charles R. Bostater, Manuel Gimond, Erik Uhlhorn, Ted Mcnally
Numerical Simulation Of The Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer Flow Over The Cape Canaveral Region And Gulf Stream Using Avhrr Sst – An Atmospheric Seabreeze Model, Charles R. Bostater, Manuel Gimond, Erik Uhlhorn, Ted Mcnally
Ocean Engineering and Marine Sciences Faculty Publications
An atmospheric mesoscale numerical model has been developed and applied to the marine atmospheric boundary layer (MABL) in the vicinity of sharp sea-surface temperature (SST) gradients. The Gulf Stream offshore ofEast Central Florida near Cape Canaveral is the region of interest. The model equations which govern atmospheric behavior are based on the basic conservation laws ofmass, momentum, and energy. A "primitive" equation formulation is used to produce preliminary predictions ofhorizontal velocity, potential temperature, and water vapor. The hydrostatic approximation is applied to the vertical momentum conservation equation and the anelastic form ofthe continuity equation is used to approximate mass conservation. …

Layered Analytical Radiative Transfer Model For Simulating Water Color Of Coastal Waters And Algorithm Development, Charles R. Bostater Jr., Lisa H. Huddleston

A remote sensing reflectance model, which describes the transfer of irradiant light within a homogeneous water column has previously been used to simulate the nadir viewing reflectance just above or below the water surface by Bostater, et al. 1,2,3 Wavelength dependent features in the water surface reflectance depend upon the nature ofthe downwelling irradiance (direct & indirect), bottom reflectance (in optically shallow waters) and the water absorption and backscatter coefficients. The latter are very important coefficients, and depend upon the constituents in water and both vary as a function ofthe water depth and wavelength in actual water bodies. This paper …
