Issues Of Factorial Invariance Inherent In Conceptual Change: Teachers’ Evolving Perceptions Of Classroom Practice, Cynthia C. Phillips

This study explored the extent to which confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) can be used to address the measurement challenges faced by evaluators engaged in the assessment of change; in particular, the interpretation of self-report survey data collected under quasi-experimental conditions. The psychometric principles behind the instruments used to measure change are built on the assumptions that the constructs of interest remain stable and that error and score magnitude alone may vary. This study examined the complications that arise, with respect to the valid use of change scores, when the constructs of interest reflect conceptual change.

The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent, if any, an effective middle level summer school program, using Edmonds' (1979) five effective schools characteristics (e.g., educational leadership, emphasis on basic skills, high expectations, safe climate, frequent monitoring of student progress) enhanced students' academic achievement and change in attitude.

This thesis attempted to replicate the results of the Decker and Rotondo (1999) study by using a similar survey, but testing in three different work settings using a broader age demographic. The results of this study confirm many of the findings by Decker and Rotondo (1999), as well as the findings of Thorson and Powell (1993,1996, 1997) concerning the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale (MSHS). The present research revealed that the MSHS scores were age and gender neutral, suggesting that sense of humor in people does not vary according to gender or age. Health care systems do not exist in isolation, but rather, as part of the larger social and cultural mosaic. In particular, perceived attitudes are major obstacles in health promotion exercises. This problem is especially true for non-white populations where little is known about the prevailing social and cultural perceptions towards western biomedical prescriptions. To further our understanding of Asian women's acceptance of mammograms, three attitudinal indexes are conceptualised, constructed and validated. This study examines the impact of structural adjustment policy (SAP) on the welfare of Zimbabweans, particularly women and children and draws some parallels with economic policy in the US and its effect on social welfare programs and the poor. The paper argues that economic structural adjustment programs (ESAPs), introduced by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund as major international financial institutions in economic globalization, have been an inappropriate public policy for Zimbabwe. Coal dust build-up prevents many coal miners' lungs from functioning properly. This condition, commonly referred to as black lung or pneumoconiosis, can make common activities nearly impossible. The Black Lung Benefits Act covers the cost of medical treatment for many affected miners, though procedural impediments often prevent miners from receiving care. The miner's current or former employer, when identifiable, must pay for medical care relating to the miner's black lung. Most disputes over miners' claims for medical care arise when the miner has a history of cigarette smoking and the need for medical care could arise from either coal dust …

The Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (“CITES”) is praised as a successful international treaty in protecting and preserving endangered species. However, the effectiveness of CITES is reliant upon member States enforcing and implementing CITES provisions. Colombia has enacted laws implementing CITES but has experienced an increase in the number of endangered species despite these laws. On the other hand, the United States’ implementation of CITES through the Endangered Species Act (“ESA”) is viewed as a sophisticated and successful CITES implementation programs. I have been teaching the first-year course in Civil Procedure for twenty years, first for five years at Ohio Northern University, and for the last fifteen years at the University of Baltimore, where I also teach a required second-year course in Evidence. When I first started teaching Civil Procedure, I used a fairly typical case method. In the early 1800s, Anglo-Americans entered the Southwest in great numbers, bringing religious institutions with them, Mexican American Baptist dependency on Anglo Baptist institutions occurred. Anglos in the Southwest brought in the doctrine of Manifest Destiny and strict racial codes. Mostly Southerners, they sought to submit so-called foreign cultured people, in this case Mexican Americans, to a predetermined role in the economic and sociopolitical life of the Southwest. Anglo Baptists were part of this culture and influenced by the practice of this ideology.
