The Relationship Between Childhood Sexual Abuse And Revictimization In Adulthood Among Uni College Students, Kristine R. Wroblewski
The Relationship Between Childhood Sexual Abuse And Revictimization In Adulthood Among Uni College Students, Kristine R. Wroblewski
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a relationship between childhood sexual abuse and adult revictimization. Two hypotheses were examined. It was hypothesized that childhood victims of sexual abuse were more likely to be revictimized as adults. It was also hypothesized that there would be significant differences in demographic and psychosocial correlates between victims of childhood sexual abuse and those who did not report childhood sexual abuse.
The Health and Safety Survey was administered to 589 students at the University of Northern Iowa. There were 398 female respondents and 182 male respondents. The Health and Safety …

Influences On Initial Acceptance And Intention To Use A Modern Family Planning Method In Hiv -Discordant Couples In Lusaka, Zambia, David Emerson Roth
Influences On Initial Acceptance And Intention To Use A Modern Family Planning Method In Hiv -Discordant Couples In Lusaka, Zambia, David Emerson Roth
All ETDs from UAB
An important means of decreasing vertical transmission and numbers of AIDS orphans would be reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in couples in which one or both members are HIV-positive. The use of family planning methods will be essential for this reduction. A previous study (Mark et al. submitted for publication) with HIV-discordant couples in Zambia attempted to influence acceptance of family planning methods in a three-armed intervention trial. The current study includes the same subjects as that intervention trial. Data on background characteristics, knowledge, attitudes and practices relevant to family planning were collected at the time of enrollment to …

Survey And Evaluation Of Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (Npv) For The Control Of Helicoverpa Armigera (Hubner) (Lepidoptera: Nocduidae) On Selected Vegetable Crops In Kenya, Joseph Baya
All Master’s Theses
Samples of helicoverpa armigera larvae obtained from several sites and crops in kenya in surveys carried out during june 1998 to october 1999 were examined at icipe, nairobi. They revealed natural infection by nuclear polyhedrosis virus (npv). Sixteen isolates were collected altogether. In laboratory bioassays on fieldcollected third instar larvae fed on contaminated diet with two local npv isolates and the indian (icrisat) isolate, the cumulative percent larval mortality did not differ significantly but the local isolates were apparently superior. Percentage larval mortality recorded 9 days after inoculation for the kenyan isolates were 78.3±7.38% and 68.3±5.68% respectively, compared to 55.9±2.10% …
A Note On The Representation Of Environmental Risks In The News, Demond Shondell Miller
A Note On The Representation Of Environmental Risks In The News, Demond Shondell Miller
The Qualitative Report
This paper examines the role of the media in representing environmental risks to society, focusing on how environmental realities are constructed via the objectivist and subjective perspectives. This study explores the construction of reality centered on space exploration, namely, the Cassini space probe. In this study, 200 respondents were asked to read four news articles from various sources and comment on the information contained in the articles. Their comments addressed the extent to which the articles were useful in helping them assess their risk to potential plutonium exposure in the event of a launch disaster. A large majority of the …
Forecasting In Business Research Using The Arima Box-Jenkins Methodology, Milagros F. Malaya
Forecasting In Business Research Using The Arima Box-Jenkins Methodology, Milagros F. Malaya
DLSU Business & Economics Review
Over the years, several techniques have been developed to deal with diverse forecasting situations, falling broadly into quantitative and qualitative (or technological) techniques. Qualitative methods are basically subjective and judgmental inputs of experts in the field. These are considered to be most appropriate when historical data and/or scientific expertise are not available. In some cases, they may even be preferred, as in very long-range forecasting.
The American Colonization Of The Philippines And The Self-Examination, Self-Presentation And Re-Presentation Of American Identity, Jennifer Marie Mcmahon
The American Colonization Of The Philippines And The Self-Examination, Self-Presentation And Re-Presentation Of American Identity, Jennifer Marie Mcmahon
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This study is an exploration of the disruptions that can be perceived in American identity through a close examination of America's colonial experience in the Philippines in three different, but related, contexts. The first is an analysis of American writers' reactions to the colonization, specifically those of Mark Twain, W. E. B. Du Bois, and William James. These writers were vocal contributors to the debate surrounding the colonization, though, like the colonization itself, these works have been largely ignored. These writers identify contradictions in American identity, focusing on issues concerning race, capitalism, individualism, American innocence, exceptionalism, and self-reliance. These are …
Credibility, Agency, And The Interaction Order, Philip Manning
Credibility, Agency, And The Interaction Order, Philip Manning
Sociology & Criminology Faculty Publications
There are two ways of reading Goffman-as a theorist of trust and ritual accommodation, that is, as a theorist of the interaction order, or as a theorist of deception. I suggest a way of making these two readings compatible, by arguing that Goffman was interested in what I call the "production of credibility." Credibility is the quality of being believable, and this quality is integral to both trust and deception. Viewed in this way Goffman explored the ways in which people make their actions convincing to other people. Although Goffman's analysis of the interaction order did not need a theory …

Design And Evaluation Of A Specialized Computer Architecture For Manipulating Binary Decision Diagrams, Robert K. Hatt
Design And Evaluation Of A Specialized Computer Architecture For Manipulating Binary Decision Diagrams, Robert K. Hatt
Dissertations and Theses
Binary Decision Diagrams (BDDs) are an extremely important data structure used in many logic design, synthesis and verification applications. Symbolic problem representations make BDDs a feasible data structure for use on many problems that have discrete representations. Efficient implementations of BOD algorithms on general purpose computers has made manipulating large binary decision diagrams possible. Much research has gone into making BOD algorithms more efficient on general purpose computers. Despite amazing increases in performance and capacity of such computers over the last decade, they may not be the best way to solve large, specialized problems. A computer architecture designed specifically to …

Theater Education And Emerging Technologies, Michael E. Butterworth
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Theater educators need compelling arguments for including the use of emerging technologies in the secondary theater classroom. The research documents the current uses of emerging technologies in the secondary theater classroom and contrasts the uses of traditional theater technologies with the uses of emerging technologies. Interviews with theater professionals identify current issues and practices in the theater community regarding the usage of technology.
A telephone survey of theater teachers reveals patterns of technology use in the Seattle School District. The research concludes that theater teachers have many tools at their disposal to teach students the processes of artistic problem solving …
