We provide an eclectic overview of various narratives that mathematicians use to describe mathematics. We discuss some of the ethical issues and approaches that each narrative tends to emphasise, and how these can lead to productive conversation in the absence of a universally agreed philosophical or ethical framework. We also discuss the dangers of a deficit model of ethical engagement, and other threats to conversation.

Ai Teaching Assistants In Higher Education: A Case Study In Pedagogical Integration And Support

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

This case study examines the implementation of three customized AI teaching assistants in a graduate quantitative methods course for adult learners. Designed to provide timely, course-specific support, the AI tools enhanced student engagement, upheld academic integrity, and aligned with pedagogical principles such as constructivist learning and formative assessment. The assistants were evaluated on the accuracy of their responses and compliance with behavioral requirements. Student feedback indicated improved learning and reduced frustration. This study offers a replicable model for responsibly integrating AI in higher education to support diverse learner needs and promote academic success.

Purpose – This study examines how strategic communication shapes public trust and financial literacy in Hajj fund governance, addressing scarce comparative evidence between fund-based and state-administered models. It contrasts Indonesia’s Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) with Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) to identify which communication elements strengthen pilgrims’ confidence.

Purpose – This study assesses how far Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values are integrated into the investment strategy of Indonesia’s Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), and how an ESG approach can be strengthened while remaining consistent with Sharia principles and maqasid al-shariah.

Design/methodology/approach – A qualitative content analysis is conducted on BPKH annual reports, audited financial statements, and public disclosures from 2020–2023. The study proposes an Islamic-ESG coding framework that operationalizes environmental responsibility, social impact, Sharia compliance, and governance integrity within public fund investment decisions.

In 2024, the United States had a “jurisdictional dog fight” on its hands; one between a defendant’s right to access federal courts through removal and a plaintiff’s status as “master of the complaint.” At stake was not mere technical procedure but the very balance between state and federal authority. When defendants began removing cases with embedded federal questions to federal court only to have plaintiffs amend their complaints to eliminate federal “hooks,” the resulting legal battle would test the boundaries of precedent and the logic governing forum selection. Royal Canin U.S.A., Inc. v. Wullschleger provided such a test.

In December 2018, twenty-three-year-old Jorge Molina was wrongfully arrested for murder based on location data received from a Google geofence—a virtual perimeter around a specific geographic location, created using Google’s location services. Despite law enforcement confirming his alibi within twenty-four hours, Molina spent six days in jail before he was released. As a result, Molina lost his job and car, suffered reputational damage, and was forced to drop out of college. Sediment samples were collected from a near shore and reef site in Coral Bay, St. John, United States Virgin Islands (USVI) from 2007-2016, using tube sediment traps. These samples provide an opportunity to study microplastics (MPs) in an area where no previous MP studies have been performed. Most sedimentary MP studies utilize benthic samples which can only measure MP concentrations (#MP/g or #MP/mL sediment), while sediment traps can provide MP accumulation rates (#MP/cm²/day) as a function of time. It is important for transportation agencies to assess their winter maintenance operations performance to identify areas for improvement and/or resource investment to maintain optimal levels of service, mobility, and safety. This study explores nine winter snowstorms in Nebraska during the 2023-2024 winter season across 20 road segments, 12 of which were along the Interstate-80 corridor. Datasets explored include meteorological information, traffic mobility insights, winter maintenance operations activities, and road conditions before, during, and after the periods of accumulating snowfall. Formulaic Sequences (FS), common word combinations stored and used as single units, are crucial for achieving oral fluency yet remain underrepresented in pedagogical materials. This study explores this gap by examining teacher and student perceptions of FS and the teaching techniques within an online Egyptian EFL context. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, data were gathered via teacher interviews (n=4), student questionnaires (n=100), a student focus group (n=4), and classroom observations. This thesis examines the emergency humanitarian response at Sallum camp at the Egyptian border upon the Lybian crisis between 2011 and 2014. By positioning the lived experiences and perspectives of humanitarian aid workers at the center, this research argues that the camp constituted a distinct and dynamic space shaped by shifting geopolitical conditions, state sovereignty concerns, and bureaucratic ambiguity. Drawing on qualitative interviews with frontline humanitarian aid workers who operated and lived in the camp over extended periods, the study explores how humanitarian interventions were negotiated, adapted, and implemented within a highly constrained environment.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze total salivary protein quantity, ionic activity, and protein molecular movement in children with and without stunting.

Material and Method: Saliva samples were collected from 30 children aged 4-6years (15stunted and15 non-stunted). Proteins were extracted using 0.1 M HCI. The total protein quantity was determined using the Bradford assay and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Salivary ionic activity (dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and total dissolved solids) and salivary viscosity were measured using an ionic meter and an Ostwald viscometer, respectively. Statistical analyses included independent t-tests, Kruskal-Wallis tests, and Spearman correlation analyses (a=0.05).
