Role Of The Carbohydrate Moieties In Chiral Recognition On Teicoplanin- Based Lc Stationary Phases, Alain Berthod, Xianghong Chen, John P. Kullman, Daniel W. Armstrong, Francesco Gasparrini, Ilaria D'Acquarica, Claudio Villani, Angelo Carotti

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

For this study, we used the macrocyclic antibiotic teicoplanin, a molecule consisting of an aglycone peptide 'basket' with three attached carbohydrate (sugar) moieties. The sugar units were removed and the aglycone was purified. Two chiral stationary phases (CSPs) were prepared in a similar way, one with the native teicoplanin molecule and the other with the aglycone. Twenty-six compounds were evaluated on the two CSPs with seven RPLC mobile phases and two polar organic mobile phases. The compounds were 13 amino acids or structurally related compounds (including DOPA, folinic acid, etc.) and 13 other compounds (such as carnitine, bromacil, etc.). The …

The Analysis Of Air Conditioning An Existing School, Dennis M. Vespe Apr 2000

The Analysis Of Air Conditioning An Existing School, Dennis M. Vespe

Theses and Dissertations

The intern wants to learn the cost and electrical feasibility of air conditioning an existing school, as well as to determine if students' learning is enhanced by the presence of air conditioning in an educational atmosphere. The intern will use the interview procedure along with the review of material culture data, and action research techniques. The intern will research case studies on the improvement of student achievement in a climate controlled atmosphere, as well as interview faculty members that have taught in climate control environments and non - climate controlled environments to develop an air conditioning plan for the Black …

Fisheries Restoration: Clark Fork Basin - State Of The Fisheries, Chris Clancy Apr 2000

Fisheries Restoration: Clark Fork Basin - State Of The Fisheries, Chris Clancy

Clark Fork Symposium Archives

The condition of the Clark Fork Basin fishery is best described as mixed. While some areas are improving, others are in considerable trouble and likely getting worse. But positive actions are increasing, including community and landowner-supported stream restoration efforts and use of conservation easements to protect and enhance native fish populations. These positive actions struggle to reverse the negative effects of historic land uses and management while protecting the fishery from growing new threats. In particular, urbanization impacts increasingly demand action by FWP biologists.

Although the mainstem’s recreational fishery is dominated by introduced rainbow and brown trout, the importance of …

Voluntary Nutrient Reduction Plan: Clark Fork River Vnrp - Collaboration To Improve Water Quality, William H. Mcdowell Apr 2000

Voluntary Nutrient Reduction Plan: Clark Fork River Vnrp - Collaboration To Improve Water Quality, William H. Mcdowell

Clark Fork Symposium Archives

The Clark Fork River Voluntary Nutrient Reduction Program (VNRP) is a landmark 1998 agreement to reduce nutrient pollution in the Clark Fork River from Butte to the Flathead River confluence. The agreement allocates nutrient discharge into the river between three municipal wastewater treatment plants (Butte, Deer Lodge, and Missoula), one industrial discharger (Smurfit-Stone) and Missoula County (regulates many septic systems).

Excess nutrients and algae are among the most widespread problems in the basin. Nutrient reduction plans have also been developed for the Flathead basin and Lake Pend Oreille. The goal of the Clark Fork VNRP is to improve water quality …

Montana Nautral Resource Damage Program: Upper Clark Fork Restoration Grant Funding - A Pilot Year, Carol Fox Apr 2000

Montana Nautral Resource Damage Program: Upper Clark Fork Restoration Grant Funding - A Pilot Year, Carol Fox

Clark Fork Symposium Archives

Through partial settlement of its natural resource damage lawsuit against ARCO in 1998, the State obtained approximately $130 million for restoration of injured natural resources in the Upper Clark Fork River Basin (UCFRB). In 1999 the State of Montana developed a draft UCFRB Restoration Plan that provided the framework for expending these restoration funds. The State revised the draft based on input from the UCFRB Advisory Council and public comment and finalized the Restoration Plan in February 2000. Rather than embarking on a prescriptive process, the State elected to establish a granting process whereby various entities could apply for restoration …

Cottonwood Creek Preliminary Assessment, John D. Lhotak, Jeffrey W. Dunn, Victoria Edwards, Michael Sanctuary, G. Hughes, Matthew V. Vitale

Clark Fork Symposium Archives

Cottonwood Creek is located in Powell County, Montana and flows through the town of Deer Lodge. The Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), will be working with ranch owners along Cottonwood Creek on restoration and conservation projects in the spring of 2001. In September and October of 2000, six graduate students from the University of Montana completed a baseline assessment of the lower Cottonwood Creek watershed, including the tributary Reese Anderson Creek. The assessment is the start of a more comprehensive assessment to be completed in the summer of 2001. The purpose of this baseline assessment is to characterize the current …

Water Quality Assessment For Northern Rockies Intermontane Basins, Lan H. Tornes Apr 2000

Water Quality Assessment For Northern Rockies Intermontane Basins, Lan H. Tornes

Clark Fork Symposium Archives

The Northern Rockies Intermontane Basins is one of 59 studies of the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program. The goals of the program are to (1) describe water-quality conditions for a large part of the nation's streams and aquifers, (2) describe water quality trends, and (3) identify factors affecting water quality. Stream water, bottom sediment, ground water, and fish tissue will be sampled; and stream ecology and habitat will be evaluated. Water quality will be related to ancillary factors.

The study area extends along the Continental Divide from Butte, Montana, to the Canadian border, and westward to …

Missionary Nurse Dorothy Davis Cook, 1940–1972: "Mother Of Swazi Nurses", Susan Elaine Elliott Phd

Dissertations

Dramatically absent from nursing's historical knowledge and professional recognition are the lives, roles, contributions, and legacies of Christian faith-based nurses. The purpose of this study was to investigate the ministry and service of Sister Tutor Dorothy Davis Cook, Church of the Nazarene missionary nurse in the African country of Swaziland 1940 to 1972. The multi-dimensional, multi-task expanded roles manifested in her integration of Christian missionary and nurse were explored and her legacy identified. The most significant primary source for this study was Mrs. Cook herself. She was interviewed on three occasions and has provided personal documents, journals, and photographs. Data …
