This paper reflects on the issues that have a continuing influence on the development of an academic program that is responsive to the training and academic needs of the developing profession of Indigenous health work. It describes and discusses the influences on the development of the curriculum. It also outlines how an interactive teaching and curriculum evaluation process has been developed to facilitate the monitoring of course content and quality. Part of this process includes an intensive program of block by block student evaluations. These evaluations and the student responses to the Faculty-wide First Year Experience Questionnaire are analysed. The …

The Employees Retraining Board (ERB) has a mission to provide quality retraining courses and services to enhance the employability of the unemployed and potentially unemployed. Its main target groups include people aged 30 or above with lower secondary education and low skills. Through an extensive network of Training Bodies, ERB provides free full-time retraining courses for the unemployed and heavily subsidized part-time courses on basic skills for the target groups. Full-time courses are placement-tied. The ERB has achieved a remarkable placement rate of over 70%, as a result of strong supp ort from employers and trade associations, provision of quality …

An Evaluation Of A Model Multiple Site Distance Learning Program For Non-Traditional Students, Dale E. Thompson, Betsy Orr, Kit Brooks, Cecelia Thompson

The purpose of the evaluation was to determine student’s perception of the effectiveness of a multiple site distance education program. Part 1 evaluated the distance education process. Students reported a positive experience with distance education. Many were apprehensive at first but after a class or 2, most began to like the process and preferred it to raditional classes. Part 2 evaluated program incentives & barriers, class structure and application of course content. Students responded that evening and weekend scheduling was the greatest incentive to participation in the program while lack of access to the advisor/instructor was the greatest barrier.

Electronics products have undergone much significant advancement in recent years. Although the development trends have primarily been determined by the developed nations such as United States, Japan and the European countries, these trends have been largely driven by many principal drivers. These principal drivers can broadly be classified in terms of users, technologies and regulatory changes. This paper briefly examines these drivers as well as the technology and product trends in the sectors of telecommunications, consumer electronics and information technology products. Its implication to the training and skill development requirements for Hong Kong will also be examined.

The study was designed to determine the preparedness of a cohort of career and technical teachers to meet the requirements of the contemporary classroom. Using the field-based, competency-based alternative teacher education model operated by Temple University, it was determined that Temple University's career and technical education teachers felt well prepared to meet the challenges of the contemporary classroom. It was also evident that there were both similarities and differences in how teachers in academic disciplines and teachers in career and technical fields perceived their readiness to teach the next generation of students. A Factor Analysis Of Caucasian College Students' Perceptions Of Native American Women., Stephanie Larocque

This study examined Caucasian college students' perceptions of Native American women. The impetus of this study was the paucity of data pertaining to perceptions of Native American women. A trait scale derived from a modified Katz/Braly (1933) scale from LaRocque (1995) was presented to 478 Caucasian undergraduate college students at the University of North Dakota. The intent of this study was to scrutinize more closely this population's perceptions of Native American women via factor analytic techniques, and also to examine if participants perceptions of Native American women would differ significantly from their perceptions of women in general.
