Joseph “Joe” Mayo was born September 8, 1959 in Rockland, Maine. His parents were Lucy Jewett (Adams) Mayo and James Henry Mayo. Mayo grew up in Thomaston, Maine where his father was a selectman and his mother was a leading member of the community in terms of community service. In 1982, his father was elected to the House of Representatives. When his father died the following year, Joseph Mayo ran for his seat and served five terms from 1983- 1992. Smart Growth: Wetlands Protection Invites Reflection On Federal Law, John R. Nolon

Although land use regulation at the federal, state, and local level are independent entities, integrating their functions may prove to be a successful method to facilitate smart growth and to protect wetlands. This article examines environmental regulation for wetlands at several levels of government. Specifically, this feature discusses federal command and control environmental laws and state government (New York and Connecticut) regulation efforts, which are justified though state sovereign police power. Also discussed, is the role of local government to act within their jurisdictions, and how governmental forces may agree upon joint resolutions in order to solve national problems. For …

These are the official minutes of the Faculty Senate Meetings at the University of Nebraska - Omaha (UNO) for Academic year 2000-2001. The Faculty Senate supports faculty governance and believes that shared governance is essential to creating productive and rewarding environment for faculty and students. The Faculty Senate is a representative body of members elected by the faculty of the various academic departments and units of UNO. Future Directions For Joint Agricultural-Environmental Policies: Implications Fo The United Kingdom Experience For Europe And The United States, Thomas Dobbs, Jules Pretty

Economics Research Reports (1969 - 2017)

Major agri-environmental programs tried in the United Kingdom (UK.) since the mid- 1980s are examined in this report. Special attention is given to the Environmental Sensitive Areas (ESA) scheme, the Countryside Stewardship Scheme (CSS), and schemes to promote organic agriculture-first the Organic Aid Scheme and, following that, the Organic Farming Scheme. Several major studies and reviews of these and other agri-environmental schemes in England, Scotland, and Wales have been conducted in recent years. These studies and reviews are drawn upon to examine both the successes and shortcomings of various schemes in drawing farmers into more environmentally sound farming practices and …
